Australian Resellers Receive Mysterious Boxes

See the from address?

Apple never ship product directly from the US to resellers.
Marketing materials are printed in Australia and product is usually shipped from either Sydney or Asia.

MacTalk.com.au posts a photo of a box that was sent to Australian resellers yesterday. The boxes are sealed with a warning:June 10th is the day after the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote speech where Steve Jobs is expected to announce the 3G capable iPhone. MacTalk speculates that the box may actually contain a demo model of the 3G iPhone.
Vodafone and SingTel both announced that they would be bringing the iPhone to Australia later this year.

it's early cause monday is a public holiday

haha, I don't usually complain about fake pictures, but any high school kid with photoshop could have pulled this one off. I mean come on, if you're gonna photoshop it, at LEAST use a real box with a real label instead of photoshopping the label to the bottom of the box of all places. It looks like he tried to add a little bit of realism with an opaque factor of 85-90%ish? rofl.

It's only a couple more days guys and gals, no need for this nonsense.

An anecdote. Intel used to provide roadmaps of new processors to their largest resellers (Dell, HP, Gateway, Toshiba, etc). When I was in a position to see them, it was when companies like Gateway were still top 5. I didn't work for them, but it gives you an era.

Intel would have different names for certain products on the roadmaps provided to the different vendors. This way, when they leaked on to the net, Intel knew exactly who did it. That company would then have supply issues as every one of their competitors would have their orders filled first, etc.

In this case, losing the ability to resell Apple products is far too scary a prospect for any company.

MacTalk is down?

its not a public holiday in western austalia have we heard if perth shops have got these boxes??
btw happy birthday queen Liz for Monday do u think shes hoping for one lol

You do know it's not actually her birthday, right?

ha fake or no fake, it's making me go nuts and might giving me a cold...

... might have to call in sick on monday and maybe tuesday. ;)

It's a fake people. Either photochopped or pasted together. The first thing I thought: WHERE'S the POSTAGE????

No stamp? No UPS label? No Fedex bill of duty? What gives. C'mon folks, this is just hysteria now taking over. Think. Think. Like Apple would ship a box that says do not open???? Some carrier getting $21.82 an hour really going to deliver a box like this and not just let it "fall off the truck"?

Not likely. Just hold your hoes until Monday.

You telling me theres one not going to be opened before WWDC Keynote? Not a chance, sending it out this early isn't very Apple like to me.

It is Friday afternoon in Sydney now, and Monday is a public holiday. If Apple Australia wanted to send something to their resellers this was their last opporunity.

I know that Rogers has already signed on to eventually sell iPhones, but it would be nice if they got on the stick and offered them soon after the WWDC

Maybe they have them too... Perhaps their staff are more disciplined and didn't take a photo / didn't have a camera handy :)

the white label looks like it was pasted on top of the box in PS...it doesn't look like a real label.

I'm gonna call hoax, just open the damn thing.

Hoax it is... i sent them the box and didn't include the return address and there's a bomb in it.. or a teddy bear, hang on, it's my girlfriend's birthday then, did i send her the right box

Disclaimer: for the purpose of covering my ass from the feds and thier Eschelon servers, there's no bomb, don't get a little stiffy after reading this, i'm not a terrorist, and it's not even my girlfriends birthday (how unfortunately poor would i end up being, having to buy my gf the same thing as i'm getting after a WWDC or something less expensive/impressive, man, that would suck)

If u're reading this babe, I Love you. I :apple: You.
So lame, so lame.
She's thinking of dumping me and she doesn't know i know.
Hehe, someone hand me a beer, imma get me an iphone to call me up a new one of her. She's pretty hot, sex was great babe, imma miss that, (for about 3 days) u're a definite 10 out of 10, honest. Soon imma have me a 12 (i hope).
Or two 6's or even better.... four 3's.
I'm not going for 12 1's, i'm not that kind of girl, i'm not a whore.

Yeah...

actually, when the place i work at receives material before its release date, they put THREE labels on it. one on the side with the standard UPS, USPS, FedEx, etc.. stuff on it... and one on the top, and one on the bottom (both of which have the "dont open until..." junk on em). kinda like a seal you know.

when the original iphone was announced, were the display boxes received at the same time, or later more toward the release date?

I would open it ASAP and then knaw on the cardboard as I played with iPhone2 and pressed the lovely neon glyphs.

I want Monday to be here so bad it just sucks. There should be prescription medicine you can take to "safely sleep 14 days" we could take them two weeks prior, just as anxiety starts to build.

Holy crap! I just checked my mail box and I got one too! Check it out. I'm certainly going to wait. I don't care what you guys tell me!

If it's subject to an NDA, anyone opening the box would get their asses sued big time. Resellers have enough problems as it is. I don't know why Apple would do that, and not courier them on Monday night or something. Still, damn you MacRumors for posting this, I have just been pushed over the excitement threshold. Monday cannot come soon enough!

EDIT:

Ok, now that you said that, I am now doubting the validity of this box. This isn't Apple's style. Something is amiss here.

They wouldn't deliver on monday night because that's a public holiday here.

They won't work, u'd need to take one 4 weeks before bcs u'll know that the 2 weeks prior to the WWDC will not exist for you, so, u'll have the anxiety 4 weeks premature, to which you will need to take another pill 2 weeks prior to that... then at that time you will need more pills for the anxiety that you will get that you will miss almost 2 months of you life asleep soiling yourself with no one to wash you with a sponge (yes, there are side effects).
Deal with it, there are AA meeting you can attend to.
Better still, get a girlfriend, from what i hear, they're awesome.

Get Real Guys

Sorry guys -

There is simply no way Apple would ship a new product to a RESELLER before it has even been announced this is way outside their normal way of doing business. I find VERY HARD TO BELIEVE this box came from apple at all - anyone can print an apple logo and stick it on a box.

Frankly this just looks like a cheap way to get hits on your site.

Come on Mac Rumors you can surely do better than that.

:)
