Obviously everybody loves camera bumps so much that they're now putting camera bumps on the camera bump...
(Then people complain that the thickness of the USB-C connector is holding back smartphone design...)

My awe is dropping as I speak...
When I look back at photos taken with my iPhone 6 which had no camera bump, in normal viewing they look just as good as those taken with my iPhone 16 with its big bump. I would much rather have a flush camera with a very slight loss of photo quality than these crazy thick bumps. Any serious photograph I do is with a real camera, not a telephone.

Unless the Air is priced “reasonably,” I’m thinking of going to the base 17. I keep going down: after a couple years of Pros, I went down to the 16 Plus and didn’t find it lacking in any meaningful way. And I’m finding I’m starting to miss the form factor of the smaller phone (and the price). I’m curious how it’ll unfold, but I can safely say I’m no longer in the market for a Pro.

Clearly you don’t understand what we’re talking about.

Apple only sells flagship phones. Samsung sells flagship phones (Galaxy S25, for example) plus a whole bunch of budget phones (starting under $100).

It’s asinine to compare how many $100 phones Samsung sells to the iPhone because they’re in a different market. The only reason people do this is because they’re desperate to get a “win” against Apple by combining sales of ALL devices against the iPhone.
I thought we were talking about smartphone sales but now apparently we’re only talking about the sale of premium smartphones. The only reason people do this is to give a win to Apple

For all those continually complaining about the back of the phone design, may I remind you that the phone is a tool. As such, it should matter more how the device performs not how it looks on the back when most of you are going to have a case. And it's not like you will be constantly looking at the back when using the front, although a small few here will do just that.

It is a good thing that MR doesn't represent the norm of tech society. Otherwise, the world would be plunged into darkness just because of a camera bump.
Agreed! But, I'm still very curious as to why this shape was chosen.

And it is a step away from the original dream: a smooth glass sheet without buttons, holes or extrusions.

That’s as ridiculous as talking about car sales and then comparing Ferrari to Ford and saying Ford is winning because they’re selling more. Ferrari sales should be compared to Lamborghini and similar brands, not Ford or Toyota.

My original post clearly mentioned Galaxy and Pixel for comparison (flagship to flagship). You’re the one who brought total sales into a discussion on flagships and tried to change the narrative for some unknown reason.

iPhone completely dominates the flagship smartphone market. This is an undisputed fact.

It’s my 2 year cycle and I recently had a school event where I wished I had a telephoto lens. I guess it’s a pro for me this time.

Note the awkwardness of the "awe dropping" phrase. It's a tease. Remember the "TLA" ("three letter acronym") craze?

So what could "A-W-E" be an acronym for do you suppose?

Let’s say the new AirPods Pro are announced, how soon might they be available for purchase? I would really love to buy them before next weekend.
AirPods Pro 1 was two days between announcement and release, AirPods Pro 2 was 16 days. My guess is that it’ll likely be closer to the latter.

They’ve plateaued. Only things that might tempt me currently would be a noticeably improved IPP max, a gameable Apple TV 4K, a more Mac like iPad OS, and an affordable VR headset

Not sure how legit, but 8 GB RAM for the 17 Air makes sense to me, instead of the 12 GB RAM mentioned in the MacRumors article. 12 GB RAM would be reserved for the Pros.

There is also a mention of 128 GB storage for the 17 Pro, but that it has been "excluded", whatever that means. Maybe it will start at 256 GB, except for large volume corporate orders or something.

Yeah I agree with most of the comments about wanting better style and innovation in the next iPhone. But to the naysayers it’s not just about the hardware:

Am I the only one who is yawning about all this news? I used to look forward to the keynotes. I used to look forward to pure magic. It doesn’t happen anymore, at least not at Apple. They make good products. Predictable products. I miss the days when they would release something that you didn’t even know could exist, and you were speechless! I guess I’m just getting old.

No way I am getting one of these phablets. The regular 14 that I have is too big as it is.

Not a problem now but next year or the next I’ll want to upgrade. But there will probably not be a 5.8 inch again.
