Note the awkwardness of the "awe dropping" phrase. It's a tease. Remember the "TLA" ("three letter acronym") craze?

So what could "A-W-E" be an acronym for do you suppose?

I hate to be a downer but just not feeling these updates. The pro models look awful to me and I just can’t get excited for spec bumps anymore and let’s be honest, with rare exceptions that’s all tech updates are these days. Sure the air is a nice idea but battery life matters most to me, not thin and trendy. The days of my annual updates are long gone.

Haven't had an Iphone since the 11, the hard edged phones are so horrible to hold I decided to part ways. I'd be happy to come back if they designed a more comfortable and light weight phone, or had the brains to put the weight towards the bottom of the phone. Also recently had to try backup my little nephews ipad photos.... what a ball ache. Tim Cooks world isn't mine, the innovation lacking $$$ psychopath needs to go. Good will will soon dry up with even the most hardcore apple users.

More Apple is doomed... Again.

Yet Apple's 1+ Billion active and repeat customers continue to open their wallets and purchase Apple products. Year after year after year. Making Apple one of the most successful consumer tech companies in the world. A pretty good trick for such a doomed company.
Well, I agree with you. That people always claim the end is near for Apple, You also need to remember. There have been many Apple like monopolies throughout history. Many are gone now! In retail. Sears once dominated the world now, they're gone. Back in the day, Zenith and RCA sold all the televisions. That didn't last long. They were replaced by Sony and they themselves almost disappeared a couple of times in recent history.. Steve Jobs himself famously said once that he was using Sony as his target when designing the first Macbooks because they were so forward thinking back in the 2005 2008 time frame. They don't even make computers anymore!

Yup... Apparently Apple customers have no agency over their lives. They're all living under Tim Cook's magical spell!

What's astonishing is that some people really believe that.
The irony of the "sheep buy whatever Apple sells no matter what" is that one of the biggest reasons I use an iPhone is that they get software updates much longer, and are easier to get OEM service for (i.e., take to the Apple Store for a battery replacement).

I go 4-5 years, typically, between upgrades. And while I could do that with select Android devices in hindsight (but not others, and it can be random!), I can consistently do that with an iPhone. When I finally buy a new phone to replace a 5 year old iPhone, my 5 year old iPhone is still running the latest version of the operating system (or at worst, a one-generation-off version that is still getting security updates.)

I'm well aware of the failure of past large companies.

The final arbiters of Apple's success or failure are Apple's 1+ Billion active and repeat customers. They're the best metric in gauging Apple's future.

Should that number someday drastically decrease to say, 1 Million active and repeat customers (a factor of 0.1%), I would worry.

Others (not you) simply saying anything is theoretically possible is not very interesting or productive in estimating a company's success/failure, and is just a "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!" retort.

100%. Apple could fail or Apple could fall into a boondoggle in the future. If we’re going to prognosticate Apple could fail aka. Laclverry let’s also prognosticate Apple will cash in.

Apple is redesigning the camera bump, though it's not quite clear why.
The bump on the previous iPhones was solid glass and purely cosmetic. By switching to aluminium they can mill the back to create a recess, which when extended the full width of the chassis, allows room for larger components like a periscope tele lens and an upgraded front camera. Hence also the shift of the flash and lidar units… though having the flash off-axis will make for ugly shadows in some orientations.

This year is more of a pass on just about everything I have a 16 Pro, a Ultra 2, AirPod pro 2 and the only item I might just see is the AirPod pro 3 as battery life of my daily use AirPods (8-10 hours a day of use) is less and less so I might just look at replacing those and pass my AirPod Pro 2 to one of my grand kids.

Wow. Remember when we didn't know what was coming and there were really cool, exciting new productsband updates?

What a yawn fest this is.

Had enough of Apple seeing TC licking Trump’s boots, that’s innovation! 🤣
Just get ready for the “One more thing…” when they announce:

“Today, we’re not just introducing a new phone. We’re introducing a statement. A color that doesn’t just blend in, it stands out. A color that is bold, uncompromising, and absolutely, undeniably confident like the person who inspired its hue.

Introducing Trump iPhone in Mar-a-Lago Orange.

This isn't just a color. It's a feeling. It's the sunset on a Florida golf course. It’s vibrant design formulated to look as good as it does on the shores of a Key West beach as it does on cable news.

It's for those who want to look like they have more. More power. More style. More... everything. It's for those who know that sometimes, to make a point, you have to be a little bit… loud. And a little bit gaudy. And we think that’s beautiful. Thank you.“

It would explain why we haven’t heard anything else about the Trump phone.

Based on the Korean telco leak regarding iPhone 17 specs, I feel I’m in for disappointment.

Interested in the iPhone 17 Pro but it would appear the battery only gets a minuscule bump and it’s starting again with 128gb - again, assumes the docs are legit and Apple doesn’t announce something different.

A consolation would be inclusion of the Qualcomm X85 modem (and not a costum one like the iPhone 16 series got).

Someone said iPhone? Imagine no iPhone like in 2020 lol

Much is made of the “durability” of switching to aluminum but all I can think is this:

When I dropped my aluminum iPhone, it dented the aluminum, deforming and cracking the screen. Full replacement needed.

When I drop my titanium iPhone, as I’ve done quite a few times, I get a small graze or chip and nothing else.

There’s nothing durable about switching to a material that is weaker and more malleable.

Samsung and Google (Pixel) have been advertising seven years of OS updates for a while, and the EU requires five years of OS updates for smartphones now, counting from the date the last unit of the respective model was manufactured (so in practice six to seven years after launch as well). Apple doesn’t have a unique value proposition here anymore.
