No, we have different chargers. Apple also thought her charger might be the problem. As I said, they gave her a new deluxe model, free.

Yep. Hopefully I would find a video showing best way to do it. But knowing me I would use it as an excuse to buy the new one when it comes out.

Many major credit cards mirror the standard warranty by one year. If you purchased it using such a card, you can just file a claim to get reimbursed the out of warranty replacement cost.

My wife has had four new 38 mm SS Apple Watches in less than a year, all because the backs of three of them fell off. When she took the second one to the Apple store, they said that they would send it out for repair, but in the end they gave her a new watch. With the third new watch she was also given, free of charge, the latest version of the charger in the hope that it wouldn't happen again, but our faith has become weak.

I have a 42mm Stainless Steel model, bought at the same time as my wife's, but nothing has happened to it.
Hmmm, I wonder if I should call Apple Support back and request a new charger?

I am pretty sure I used Paypal, which I use for most online purchases if possible. But, I don't have a broken SS watch.

Your not having a broken SS watch is beside the point. All I'm saying is had you used a CC that offers extended warranty protection and should it break in the 2nd year, the CC company will reimburse you the OOW price and make you whole again. That's why I use my CC for all major electronic purchases and reserve paypal only for purchases that won't benefit from extended warranty protection.

It'll also extend the warranty by one additional year if you purchase AC+ with it, giving you three years of protection against manufacturing defects.

Certainly a good point and reason to use a CC. I use Paypal for online security purposes but what you said makes sense.

Interesting as the Apple Support person asked me a series of questions that I think are relate to the back becoming unglued. They wanted to know if I used any hand lotion or moisturizer and if the watch was worn in the shower or in the Pool.It seems that they are trying to find the cause for the glue to let go. That may be the difference between you and your wife's experience with the watch. Just saying.

The charging puck is one thing; are you both plugging the cable into the same kind of adapter, too?

The back cover has detached from the body of the watch exposing wires. We are going to the Genus Bar. Has this happened to anyone else?

UPDATE. Our visit to the Genius Bar proved to me, once again, that not all geniuses are created equal. I requested immediate replacement under Apple Care. No go. They insisted on sending it out to the depot for a decision to either repair or replace. One Genius had an interesting theory, however. He said that batteries sometimes start to expand--either pushing out the front or back of the Apple Watch. I will post again when we get more info from the depot.

UPDATE #2. Apple came through, just like they usually do. We left the watch at the Genus Bar on Friday, and received a phone call the following Tuesday advising us that Apple had decided to replace the watch and we could pick it up. Now my wife has a shinny new watch and we are all happy again.
My stainless steel watch back just fell off yesterday when I put it on its charger, after a little more than a year of wearing it. I did not buy Apple care. If it's a manufacture defect, do you think it can be replaced? I was never rough with my watch, I always take care of my things.

You're SOL if you're out of warranty, unless you happened to purchase your AW using a major credit card that offers extended warranty protection. In that case, you'd file a claim with your CC company to get reimbursed the OOW replacement cost.

Thank you very much for the advice. It should be considered a factory defect. It's not normal after only 14 months. I'll try with Apple first. We'll see what they say.

If you didn't use it out of spec, in water (like showering with it and swimming with it), it is. But, many have used it that way. In that case it wouldn't be.

[doublepost=1464718967][/doublepost]Just happened to me too! The back of the watch just stayed with the magnet. I bet there is a time frame for this.

We've gotten reports of the back detaching from the AW even when new so there isn't really a time frame as it's all over the place. It has to do with how severe the defective glue is.

How long have you had the Watch? Mine detached after 13 months.
Mine detached 3 days after the warranty expired, so 12 months for me. Apple asked me all of those questions as well. I don't swim or shower with mine, haven't used sunscreen/bug spray since last summer, and even when I did use sunscreen/bug spray, I usually wasn't wearing the watch. Apple asked about lotion, and I do apply that every morning after showing and before putting on my watch. I use Lubriderm because of allergies to strong smells, and it's a pretty simple kind of lotion which I wouldn't think would affect the glue on the apple watch back. I'm worried this is going to happen again and I don't know how to prevent it.

Given that you don't swim or shower your with AW, you can do the "water stress test," which involves immersing it in a glass of water for 20 or so minutes (within the IPX7 water resistance rating) to rule out a defective glue in your replacement watch. It's likely that your previous AW would have failed this test much earlier had you subject it to water, but took this long for the defective glue to weaken to the point that the back cover detaches.

That's an interesting, but scary (to me) idea! Not sure I'm brave enough to try that. I have a replacement watch now while I wait to see if they will repair mine or let me keep the replacement. Anyone else try the "water stress test?"

Why be scared? It's rated IPX7, meaning it's waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Yes, I've done the water stress test and many others have already "tested" it by showering and swimming with it.

Would you rather find out the hard way after the warranty expires, and that's a less scary idea? If it croaks now under water due to defective glue, Apple will replace it under warranty.

[doublepost=1469325502][/doublepost]My display just fell out of the casing when I was putting on the watch. I am 53 days out of warranty but headed to the Genius Bar to see about getting it fixed. I do not consider this broken, or damaged. I believe it is a defect. Manufacturing error, or in simple terms, a lemon. The Genius did not agree with me and explained a five-day wait and $199.99 to fix or replace it.

A "One Time" agreement to fix the watch due to my time out of AppleCare, they agreed to fix it. I have been an Apple user since the Apple II days and have owned every Apple Product ever released and many Macintosh computers over the years. I am pleased the support folks decided to fix my watch, but I am hoping for a replacement as this one was exposed to whatever is not allowed inside the case. I will post an update next week.

[doublepost=1469366129][/doublepost]When I started this thread, I never expected the number of replies that it has received. If anyone needs convincing that this is a manufacturing defect, they should read it.

This is true on this forum when it comes to random manufacturing defects. If you try to find 100 random AW owners out on the street and ask them if they've had their back come off, you'd be hard pressed to find a yes answer. However, ask a question on this forum and you can easily get 100 yes replies (out of millions AW owners).

Yesterday and today I was thinking of buying an Apple Watch 42mm Stainless Steel Space Black. But, this has me wanting to hold off...
