Hey, I normally get the Higher Education discount around this time, but I've never got one with a Mac.

I've heard about being offered a free printer and iPod. Can you get this deal on the Apple store online, or does it have to be from an actual Apple Shop? :)

Dumbass

Since when does being cautious or wary make you an idiot. Yes, we get it, you've bought (or pretend to have bought) 6 macs using the educational discount, congratulations. You have successfully bragged on an internet forum and acted like a douche at the same time, when you could have just politely informed people about your actions.

Sorry i was too impolite for your taste, but when you read this thread and all it is is a bunch of people too scared to buy something that can be done so easily, its a little bit frustrating. And yes i have bought six macs using this promotion don't worry I'm not trying to fool anyone. My point being is that no wonder apple does so well, people like you are afraid to stick it to the man and just buy it under the educational discount, they don't care. And if you are this weary and cautious it most certainly makes you an idiot!

yes you are right in that it's pretty simple to attempt and buy a mac at the educational price level without having them check, but truth is they sometimes do spot checks and there's no harm in asking in the forums, there's no reason for you to be speaking that way, what's the point?

Any speculation on the dollar amount for the rebate? Last year, last year the rebate was $229 to match the base iPod touch price. The base iPod is now only $199. I am hoping the rebate is still $229. In this case, perhaps you could maximize the value of the rebate by buying the higher end model, then resell that.

Now I have a legitimate reason to spend money on a brand new 13" MBP since I will need the smaller laptop to carry around to outer islands when i travel to do my school work. I can't help to keep looking at this macrumors site and the apple website frequently!

Hi I'm new here. I like to get the suggestion from any of you who have an experience selling printer/ipod Touch.
I like to get Ipod Touch and printer and sell them to cover the cost.
I wonder what printer is easy to sell and where to sell.
I consider craigslist because you don't have to pay for shipping but it might be hard to sell.

Selling an iPod is easy. People know exactly what they're getting, so you only need to agree on a price. I sold a new-in-box one last year on craigslist in 1 day for $180. At the time they were selling for $229 list and $215 at Costco. The week after I sold it the list price dropped to $199 list, $185 at Costco. You have to sell before the new iPods come out in September!

I have no experience selling printer, but I would expect it would be a little more difficult. A $99 printer from Apple can usually be had on Amazon at $60-70. You might then be able to sell it for $40-50?

Thank you ct95 for your input and a quick response.

Another question is do you guy think 32gb will be easier to sell since it will compatible with OS 4.

I would suggest to invest in the 32gb because people want the new OS 4. Some people don't care and just want apps or music. Some people just want something that can play pandora on their ipod/iphone dock with their speakers. Thats what I use my ipod touch for since I have an iphone. Also more since I got an iPad, I will either sell the ipod touch or use it around my house as a music station with speakers hooked up to it.

I believe the 32gb will be quicker to sell especially since its cheaper because many people notice the features of it being much faster and compatible for the OS4. some "lay people" do watch youtube videos of Steve's keynotes :D. Hence, I consider myself more of a layperson than a Mac geek.

Back to school history

Does anyone know the previous dates that Back to School started?

2009 27thMay Internationally?
2008 ???
2007 ???

i read the exact dates of the last years somewhere here on MR. it started sooner every year, but just 1-3 days. so i'm pretty sure for next week ;)

the BTS

may be the BTS promotion will be attack in the next week i think!!!:):)so it worth to wait!!

Does anyone know if you can get an iPod Nano instead of the Touch with the rebate? I know you can put the rebate towards a more expensive model, but I already have a 16GB Touch and I just want a Nano.

Thanks.

of course!!!u can!!i just wanna a touch!!!:cool::cool:

Traditionally, all iPods are eligible for rebate, with maximum rebate pegged to a certain iPod model. Below are dates I looked up and dollar amounts for rebate:

2009 $229 May 27
2008 $299 June 3
2007 $199 June 5
2006 $179 June 5

I hope it goes to $299 (32GB iPod Touch!), but probably unlikely. Last year it appeared to kickoff a week earlier than previous years. We're at most 1.5 weeks away.

I'm so sick of waiting already. If it doesn't start next week, I'm still probably gonna order myself a MBP.

I agree, although i'll probably just wait. I'm getting very impatient though, i've been waiting since October for them just to update.

I've only been waiting a few weeks. But I've had to bare the waiting time without a mac completely as my previous one died. Wouldn't have thought, but the wait is absolutely killing me. :(

Is there any reason why 2009's BTS date started about a week earlier than previous years? I wonder if we'll see that trend this year as well...

If you are absolutely desperate for the BTS promo, there's an easy solution: register for a class, even a 1 or 2 hr one, at your local community college. I graduated from college 1 year ago tomorrow, but I am taking courses at my local community college so technically I'm still a university student. When all is said and done, I will be saving approximately $549 thanks to the BTS promo and regular student discount, and that does not include the free printer. If you're finicky like me, you get to enjoy discounts on upgraded hard drives, memory, antiglare screen, and applecare. Here's how it breaks down:

MBP 2.53 Ghz i5 $1849 ($150 off)
8 GB Memory $360 ($40 off)
500 GB Serial ATA @ 7200RPM $45 ($5 off)
Antiglare HD Widescreen Display $135 ($15 off)
Applecare $239 ($110 off)
Total Discounts: $320

Students also save $4 on iWork pre-installed on top of the $30 off deal.

And then you add in the free iPod, my choice is the Classic, and you save an additional $229 (based on last year's numbers) and you arrive at a grand total of $549 in savings. One course at my local community college is only costing me $150 so in the end I'm saving $299 on my computer by taking a CC course.:D
