No it's 14 days after it arrives to you.

This guy made it sound like I have to return it to get the deal if it's after my purchase :-( What a wast of a perfectly good computer that they will have to sell as refurbished.

Just spoke to an employee in my local store (Newcastle) and it's the same on the UK front. No knowledge about an upcoming MBP or the BTS deal. He said the deal probably will go ahead given that it's happened year after year, but he couldn't guarantee it.

But I think given that students are one of Apple's biggest target markets, I can't imagine they would terminate the BTS campaign - if anything, they'd maybe change the offer, but we'd at least be notified if this was the case. I think that the delay in the campaign can only suggest that there's going to be some sort of twist. Maybe they're waiting for the new MBPs to be manufactured before bringing out the offer, or maybe they're planning some sort of new promotion in conjunction with the BTS deal.

I'm feeling quietly optimistic though. As they always say, "no news is good news"!

The $100 gift card can be used to buy software, mac accessories etc. right?

It cannot be used in store to purchase hardware.
It can be used in the Mac App Store to purchase software, or it can be usedin iTunes to purchase music/video, etc.

What about stuff like laptop bags/cases?

I wish! I'd find that much more useful - already have over £160 in credit on the app store/iTunes and havent spent it since last year!

----------

I was really hoping the promo would have started this week - I may need to go ahead any buy my MBA now. Ive sold my MBP now, so want a MBA11 to use as a portable machine and a rMBP15 to use as my workhorse for FCPX editing etc - Im waiting for HAswell to be introduced in the rMBP though!!

If the promo would start now Id get the MBA now.
If the rMBP is updated in the next month or two, I would get that on release.
Hence I would be getting 2 lots of whatever the promo is - and would sell both!!

i have a bad feeling that the event will not happen this year :( what makes it worse is that i had been hopefully anticipating an ipad mini, and instead i will probably get nothing. and if it IS happening this year, i dont think it will start any time soon. usually we get a day's or week's notice before the promotion actually starts

I think the event will happen soon, maybe next month, but I doubt the iPad mini will be given to us.

I agree. The thought of a free iPad Mini is very nice but I can't see it happening. But who knows, maybe they'll have a promotion where you can get it 50% off or something when bought with a Mac. I'd much rather the BTS deal offered some sort of in-store credit though rather than £100 or whatever worth of downloadable content. I could use it to buy a bag or Pages or MS Office or something.

Perhaps they'll give away the new iPod Touch? The new basic ones are £199 making them £70 cheaper than the cheapest iPad Mini. Hmmm :p

I honestly doubt Steve Jobs himself replied to those e-mails. Probably had some overworked, underpaid minion to do it for him.

Ooh you should read the Steve Jobs biography. I remember a couple bits which talked a lot about how he wrote those emails himself. Also Jobs' public apology regarding the iPhone 4 signal issues.

Anyway, where the BTS offer is concerned, I almost don't think it's wise to launch an offer so late now, or in mid-July or something - a lot of students who already bought their Mac would not be happy. Unless they offered it to those people, too. It just seems less and less likely.

Ok the reason for the BTS delay HAS to be because of Haswell, right? I mean i can't think of another reason why it has been pushed back this long.

And i highly doubt they've scrapped the whole BTS promo, Apple has always had a huge stance on education. It only makes sense that they are waiting to announce MBP's w/ Haswell alongside their BTS promo

What about Haswell?

It really has nothing to do with Haswell.

I searched my email for old Apple BTS campaign emails and here is what I found:

Started:
6/18/12 (A special offer for college students):
Buy a Mac for college and receive $100 to spend on apps, books, music, movies, and more. Or buy an iPad and get $50 to spend.

1st Reminder:
7/11/12 (Get a new iPad for college. And $50 for apps):
Buy the new iPad anytime through September 21 and get a $50 Back to School Gift Card for apps, books, music, and more.

2nd Reminder:
8/8/12 (Get a new Mac for college. And $100 in apps)
Buy a new Mac for college and get a $100 Back to School Gift Card to spend on apps.* And you’ll save on your new Mac with Apple education pricing.

I wonder how it was the year before, maybe it would be good to wait till the 1st of July or maybe the 11th but the wait is killing...:(

same, if i can find a better deal, i.e. best buy open box, or a bigger education discount im gonna pull the trigger, $100 iTunes card comes out to 80-90 bucks if you sold it plus the 50 for education discount, 140 bucks tops isnt anything special.
