$100 gift card doesn't do much for me.
I've probably spent less than $20 at the app store & itunes.

I probably would have bought an air or 21" imac. Not likely now though.
I'm always telling people about Macs and I also had been telling a couple people to wait for this promo....I guess I was wrong to tell them that.

There are frequently deals at other stores, some with no tax which easily negates much or all of the savings with this promo.

No hurry or incentive to buy now.

The new UI is pretty clean and polished.. Not like the original "Blades" style.

Maybe I misunderstood "blades". The top picture has what I call blades. These some menus made of pictures that cover each other up. I have the xbox prior to 360 but it has that look to it.

The picture you post shows more of each photo in the sub menu which helps.

You see as a casual user, if something I'm looking for is in a submenu five pictures down, it isn't as easy to find if you can only see three pics before the need to scroll. It looks like you can see more now.

On a PS3 when you scroll left to right in the main menu, you can see many items in a given submenu. To be honest though as more of these items become iconic instead of text I find it annoying. Again I don't use the PS3 much either to recognize every icon on site.

I primarily use xbox for netscape and that is easy to find of course. But netscape's interface adopts features of the system it is on. That format of picture over picture is really bad when you have a queue of 100 or more movies to go through.

Last question though, in the new UI for xbox, to turn of the console via software or to edit network information, do you have to go to a second screen by pushing the button on the controller? When I first started using xbox I would get lost trying to find access to that second menu. I always thought they should add something on the main set of menus to take you there. Instead you have to remember the button.

If I can sell the card, sure. Otherwise, its completely useless and may as well not take advantage of the promotion at all, I have no intention of ever using an iOS product or the app store.

You're probably already using an iOS product, brah. iOS is Apples family of operating systems.. Soon enough Mac osx and iOS will be rolled into the iOS name (lion implements many iOS features).

If you don't want an apple laptop, don't buy one, AAPL will do fine without your purchase.

Pirating software is so 1995, but I understand it for young/poor students - we've all been there.

WOW!!! I am very disappointed I have upgraded our two Macbook pro's two years in a row and planned to do it again along with my iMac. I think Apple has under estimated the impact to their business!!!

So, you already have two free iPods from '09 and '10 and this is a deal breaker for you?

You are purchasing way too much computer if your purchase was hinged on the inclusion of a $200 mp3 player. Buy what you need, avoid taxes if you want, the loophole needs to be plugged though.

BTW - if I got the free $100 gift card, I would wait to buy it when I find out when Steve Jobs is visiting the Palo Alto Apple store and throw the gift card in his face, and tell him "Thanks for nothing!" and leave w/ only my new Mac. :D

So who else thinks this means no new ipods in the fall, since they usually use this promotion to get rid of stock. Wouldn't be the first time they changed schedule this year...

I don't understand all this anger as Apple doesn't have to provide buyers with any bonus or incentive.

Um, Apple pretty much has to provide buyers with a bonus or incentive this time of the year. Just about everyone knows the new models will be out very soon and without the incentive no one will buy anything right now.

Kinda pissed I bought my mac today. A 100$ free Gift Card would have been really nice, wouldn't have to pay for iWork.

Did you buy it from the Apple Online Store or from an actual Apple Store? If so, you're still eligible. My computer came June 6 and the Apple Online rep told me if the BTS happened within 14 days all I had to do was call them:

Apple Rep: Now, let me set you up with some information that you would need if, hypothetically, some sort of promotion drops on us in the next 14 days.
(or, rather 14 days of receiving your order)
Apple Rep: If that were to happen, the number for Customer Service and Sales Support is 1-800-676-2775. Give them a call, and they'll be happy to help get you taken care of.

Ok, I completely understand the move towards giving a gift card for the Mac App Store. That's smart. However, why not offer the same amount of credit on the card as the price of the 8GB iPod Touch? It's $230 retail, so why not give a $225 card, or even just a $200 card? That seems like a much more even value. Of course, though, Apple doesn't have to do any type of promotion, but it is in their best business interest to do so, especially with Microsoft giving such a sweet deal with the Xbox at a much cheaper price point. With the higher entry price of a MacBook, offering a back-to-school gift card of $200 would get a student started nicely with apps for their Mac.

Dude, I'm getting a Dell

I'm glad they finally announced it.

Been holding off on a new laptop since early May looking forward to seeing this promo. Tomorrow I'm going to order a shiny new Dell and free Xbox.

Since I'm replacing a powerbook, I guess this means I'm switching back from Apple. There's some great marketing.

Don't think this is a cost thing.

It costs Apple feck all to make an iPod Touch. A lot less than the $70 per person they will be paying to the developers.

You're absolutely right. That's why I didn't believe Apple would be stupid enough to do this when I read the rumor yesterday. And it costs apple more than $70, because out of their 30%, they have to pay for bandwidth for all those downloads, administrating the whole thing (like managing accounts, billing, etc). Their 30% cut is not all profit.

So, they lost a $1600 sale on me, who knows how many thousands of other people just like me...and for a promo that won't save them any money?

Why don't they just take an extra $100 off.

It seems like a pretty cocky move to me. With MS offering a $200 xbox for a $700+ computer, while the cheapest Mac that usually qualifies for this deal is the $1100 MacBook. I wonder if that's still the case :|

Of course, few people on this board will scoff at it, and suggest that of course, Apple owes nobody anything, and they had absolutely no issues buying their computer. :) Even those who go way in over their heads on a student loan to buy a MacBook Pro when they rightfully should have purchased a much cheaper PC laptop.

Email Steve Jobs and let him know. I'm sure he cares!
