so now, they changed the policy to only 1 time replace?

Such a policy is completely irrelevant.

You buy an Ipad. It has bleed. You take it back. It has bleed. You request a refund on swap 2. You get a refund.

You buy an ipad........ repeat.

I just returned my 5th one and got a refund. I think I have OCD but until they fix the light bleed I will be without a tablet.

Are there any manufacturing dates we can find on the iPads?

I sold my white iPad which did have minor light bleeds and my new black iPad is scheduled to arrive next week

Is it part of the Serial Number like on the old iPhones/Touch's?

The Apple Store had just gotten the one I bought that day, so I assume it was manufactured within the past couple of weeks.

Just a heads up....my local apple store is no longer exchanging units for light leak issues. Doesn't matter how many times. I brought in the worst light leaked unit of all time and they would not swap.

Apple guys on the floor could not believe it and helped me "return" my model for another one. They were shocked that these units were considered in spec.

The response to customers now I've been told is to tell them to wait a few months then return. This is now policy.

Which state is this?

I've noticed that if your serial number has a 6 in the third letter/number of the serial number; it has light leakage. I've seen about 7-8. I checked the local Apple Store and all their floor models had an X as the third letter/number and none of them had light leakage. I also checked the local Macmall retail store and same story. I recall the LG/Samsung article referred to the LG plant with the defect as something with a 6 in the name of the plant. Maybe the third letter/number represents what factory it came from. I am not saying I know for sure, but it is something that I have observed. Again, this is just a theory.

Maybe people can reply with the third letter/number and if they have light leakage to see if the theory holds any weight.

I have a black AT&T 3G 32gb iPad 2 that I just got today from the apple store and has a 6 in the third spot but only a corner has a little bit of light leakage besides that it's perfect.

however, (i think) only in US and very few other countries you can get refund! for me, in Japan, i do not think that they'll refund (especially after one swap), so replacing is the one and only choice :)

Mine has a 6 is the 6th letter/number in my serial. Does it count? It has some serious light bleed issues.

I exchanged the iPad I purchased yesterday morning due to light leakage for another one yesterday afternoon. It, indeed, has an X in the third position of the serial number and has no light leakage, except for, it seems, at 100 percent brightness a tiny, tiny little "unevenness" at the bottom (or it could be my eyes playing tricks on me...it really is THAT difficult to tell). In fact, when the genius pulled this unit out yesterday, and told me he had also replaced his original iPad 2 for light leakage issues and lucked out with a perfect (or near-perfect one), we were both surprised to find such a good unit on the first try at replacement in my case.

Very pleased here. Good screens are out there, folks. I think they will become easier to find now.

My latest replacement to the image I posted earlier still has bleed, but nowhere near as bad.

The screen on this one is so damn bright and crisp. I compared before the swap, 50% brightness on this unit equals 100% on the returned unit. The difference between panel manufacturers is staggering. Talk about a panel lottery. It's not an issue of warmth or coolness, it's an issue of quality. One is just simply better.

This unit has 3 small scratches on the back straight out of the box, but seeing how bad other units are, I'll keep it.

It's sad that every unit I've pulled from a new box has cosmetic and a varrying degrees of functional damage. I really think foxconn is cranking these things out with lax QC.

OK...This is a dumb question considering how long I have been on this forum, but how do I take a screenshot of my iPad screen to post?

The iPad 2 I purchased early yesterday morning had discernible light bleed, so I brought it right back yesterday afternoon. The Genius knew right away what I was talking about without even taking it into the back. Got a replacement (brown box) and we checked it out together. Looked great...He added if there were any problems to just bring it back...Got it home and was very pleased when checking it under all different lighting conditions, and up to 100 percent brightness.

Just checked it out again, and this one is definitely a keeper. No dead pixels, even, bright screen...No discernible light bleed (after I post, maybe somebody will see some, but I'm pretty OCD and can't really discern much, if any)...First 4 letters of serial number, for anybody who cares, is DLXF...The original one had a 6 in the first 4 digits of the serial number. Perhaps Apple is finally getting ahead of the QC problems...I'm hoping this one is as good as I think it is...

Only remaining test for me to do is to place it side-by-side with my iPad 1 to compare...

Edited to add...I was fortunate enough to get a Genius who had gone through the same thing himself with his own iPad...

Software screenshot won't show physical issues. Get a camera and point at the screen.

OK...Thanks! I gotta run to Costco and then the gym. Hopefully will have the opportunity to post later today...

BTW, I'm loving the Targus 360 case. While it adds a little bulk, the versatility can't be beat. I've been using the Yoobao Magic on my iPad 1, and the Targus takes it one step further in terms of flexibility. Thumbs up on the Targus 360.

Finally got one at the Apple Store last night - they just got a big shipment in of all of them and didn't have to wait in any lines.... ;)

Mine has about the same amount of bleed - not as disturbing as I thought though. Can only see it if you are watching movies which I really don't do on these small devices....

Still - they need to do something about their QC. Maybe will change it out right before the warranty expires.

I have a 6 in the 3rd position of the serial number - I have the light leakage...
