Call AppleCare and file a complaint. There is no excuse for the way you were dismissed. As with my first guy, if he had said to me that I needed to do this or that with my phone initially, I would have been OK...but he simply dismissed me...as did yours.

Good luck and report back to us.

Thanks, AppleCare is closed right now, but I went through Express Lane and I'm going to call tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Best of luck, Clusty...You'll do fine. There's always a douche somewhere in every company...

Definitely let us know how it goes. I purchased my iPad 2 on 5/13...Got it home...Found Backlight Bleed and immediately made an appointment for that afternoon.

The Genius was VERY nice, but initially told me that they could replace with one in-store but it would only be replaced once. I told him that is NOT so. I was very polite, and he went in to the back and came back telling me I was absolutely right, and that I could come back as many times as I wanted until I got one that was OK.

I am sure that management is telling them to dissuade people from coming in again and again..considering how widespread this problem is...and their concern is that "good will never be enough" for some people The fact is that they put out a product with flaws uncharacteristic of the brand.

The genius unboxed mine and we found a good even screen with no evident backlight bleed, but he told me that I could bring it back in any time if I discovered a problem. He was awesome.

Best of luck to you tomorrow!

Called AppleCare Friday and set up an appointment for Saturday morning. The Genius looked over the iPad for a few seconds before I told him to take it in the back and the dark. He came back and said they would definitely replace it. The new one is pretty much as good as it gets. I'll take some pix tonight or tomorrow to show you guys that good ones exist!

It was a huge relief since I bought it from Vanns and they wouldn't do anything to remedy the problem. And thank god they had a replacement in stock. Not a retail one but it was a NEW service one, brown box. The genius said some people don't understand it but it makes a lot of sense. Apple doesn't want to send out a bunch of retail boxes and chargers for replacements. Plus the brown box ones can't be sold as retail which means I was actually able to get a new one for my messed up one.

Overall very happy with Apple realizing they messed up and making it easy to fix.

Clusty- Return the lemon and demand a functional product or your money back!
I would, but my store is still selling out within a few hours of their morning shipments, and I can't get there until the afternoon.

Best of luck, Clusty...You'll do fine. There's always a douche somewhere in every company...

Best of luck to you tomorrow!

Thanks! I'm sure Apple will remedy my problem, they always do.

Anybody else turned down recently?

I posted my experience before. The genius at tha Apple store Soho in NYC told me that they would replace it only once, just if he would find something wrong (this is before he looked at my iPad). He took it behind, came back saying that he couldn't see anything wrong. Thirty seconds later, he couldn't deny it, when we looked at the iPad together, but still, he said that it will be only one exchange. It didn't matter I bought AppleCare with the iPad.

Oh, and he said that after the one exchange I was not allowed to return it. The supervisor said that yes, I could return it, which I am planning to do tomorrow, since the second iPad is worse than the first one.

Just as I suspected after my experience...They are evidently told to say that there is only exchange but if the customer sounds like he knows what he's talking about, they yield very quickly. My guy couldn't be more gracious after I pointed out that what he was telling me was not only incorrect, but unacceptable.

I am thinking of replacing my iPad also as the replacement I got has minor light bleed and the screen is warm instead of cool...

I received a replacement already. Can you get it replaced as many times as possible if u have the light bleed problem?

I live in a small town in Oklahoma,Stillwater,we have a best buy here a staples ad 2 walmarts,I am 1hr away from OKC or Tulsa, have been looking for weeks for ipad 2,i had a macbook air 11 base that was 2 mos old but needed some extra money so i sold on ebay, but then i was left with just my iphone 4,there are other laptops in the house my daughter and son in law who live here each have one,but i needed something so we run out,it's like 9pm at night, this was wed night,Best buy as closing but they haven't had ipad 2 at all,so we went to the first Walmart, they haven't got any ipad 2 yet,and their laptop selection sucked,so i called the second Walmart to ask what kind of laptop, tablet selection they had, after a few minutes he comes back and says we have 1 ipad 2 32gb wifi black,he said it's strange because we haven't had these for weeks,i told him to hold it i was on my way.

So i got there and bought it,it does have a tiny amount of backlight bleed,2 small spots in bottom right and one small spot in bottom left, thi is on full brightness in movie mode, when the brightness is down there is just one little spot on each side, should i just live with this? it really isn't that bad, eventually i'll get another mac but all i really do is browse internet, read, music and movies. Not sure what to do,this may be as good as it gets and it was just out of luck i found this, even the bigger cities an hr from me have been sold out everywhere with them.

You need to do some reading. It's not as if it hasn't been addressed a billion times in this thread alone.

If it doesn't bother you then of course keep it. I'll tell you this much though if you plan to watch movies in letterbox, or use it in the dark, it will irk you after a while.

Added Satdude, roflc0pter, corvus32, corvus32(other), jbud72, Clusty.

The bad news is that corvus32 has got the first model of week 21, with 'Q' at fifth, and it's bad. Seems Apple is not fixing the problem. It's a lottery.

User512-
Thanks for doing this.

So far it's looking like week 16 had the best batch so far.

"SELLING WEEK 16 IPAD2!!!! $1500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

My local store hasn't gotten any iPad shipments since May 12... still waiting to get an exchange. Hopefully they finally get some in tomorrow.

Good ones definitely exist. I have had 2. My first one had almost zero bleed, and my second one (I exchanged for dust under the screen) has absolutely no bleed. So I've had two in a row without the problem.

If you read this thread too much, you'll feel like they ALL go out with light bleed, but I don't think that's the case.

I am curious what everyone thinks about jbud72's Ipad2. Is this considered OK or bad to you for those that have seen "ones without any backlight bleed".

Pretty clean. Minor, if any, bleed. This picture is at 100% brightness. Serial: DLXFK

I ask because mine basically looks like this and I am bouncing back and forth between returning or keeping. I probably have a bit more noticeable bleed on the left.. you can just notice a bit of yellow on his... mine is more prominent (kind of like the bottom of his in this picture). My bottom looks exactly like his.

Mine is from week 8 after four tries. So just wondering since I have about 1 week left before my refund ability goes away.

Thanks for your opinions....

does anybody remember pokemon cards from back in the 90's? I feel like opening ipads is about the closest experience i've gotten to that

keep opening them until you get the good one

This is perfectly fine and within spec for LCD "milkiness".

The difference betweent his screen and ones with bleeding that i've had is simply so stark and obvious there is no comparing them.

So I'd keep it if i was you.

I've just received delivery of a brand new 64GB 3G Ipad2, serial starting with DLXFP and it's the best i've seen so far! I reckon i will keep this one.

It took 7 attempts to get an ok one! :( I will post pictures later.

Is yours black or white? I noticed that bleeding affects white models more. I bought one black and white on launch day and the white had bleeding. However i also changed the black due to dead pixel for the first replacement and casing chipped for the 2nd set. In the end i sold the 3rd replacement set and just ordered a new white one on apple online.

Initially wanted to wait a while more for apple to sort out the issues before ordering the white one but since buying from Apple online allows me to keep changing, i've clicked on the button to enjoy my ipad first and will keep changing to get a perfect one. By the time i receive mine 2 weeks later, should be DLFXR or DLFXS??? Ha.. Let's hope its a perfect set and Apple has solved all the issues!!!

Yeah I'm satisfied with mine. Honestly, the picture seems to show the bleed more than actually looking at it in the dark, in person. It's worlds different than my friend's, who has legitimate bleed.

White, I also noticed that the white ipad is worse in terms of blb for some reason.

7 attempts? Are you serious?

Wow, with the quality control Apple currently has, it seems like buying an iPad 2 is worse than buying a Dell computer! :p

Well guys, I think I've found one.

I've opened (and subsequently sold or returned) about 7-8 units. The ones that didn't meet my personal preferences (i.e. warm or uneven), I sold on Craigslist for a minor loss, because that is a normal manufacturing issue.

Today I found a NEUTRAL screen, warmer than the other iPad but I'd say its about perfect. Zero bleed in a dark room, deep, rich blacks. I've yet to take it into the closet to test but I'm not sure if I want to since I've yet to see anything wrong in normal use.

The only downside is that it does not seem as bright as other iPads. Not "warmer," but just a tad less blinding. I suppose this could be the tradeoff.

This is a DN6FP...a newer model according to that chart.
