Vanns states that iPads are not returnable. I agree with you, though...Essentially when purchasing from Vanns, you are stuck with the iPad...because Apple will not refund the money you paid for the iPad to Vanns either.

You may have some wiggle room in arguing that when you click on the RETURNS POLICY tab on the iPad page, there is NO mention of an iPad not being returnable if opened. The only place this policy is stated is if you click on the general Returns Policy tab at the bottom of the page. Their site is inconsistent and incomplete in parts.

The first email I got from them said I could return it within 15 days, the second said I couldn't. So, the customer service people don't even know.

I have an appointment tomorrow morning with Apple, hopefully they'll have some in stock for a replacement.

What week produced is 9?

Thanks jps1012, ok. I will add you in the next update of the table. '9' will be week number 9. You will see clear in next post. So it's a really early model; two weeks before the first model currently on the list.

Vanns seems to be very inconsistent!

Apple will treat you well, though.

My 3rd iPad that has some crazy lightbleed posted earlier in this thread is DLXFML.

:p

Edit @user512 #3008
Just dug out my first replacement iPad serial (2nd iPad) it was DLXFK... And unfortunately I didn't record the serial of the first iPad.
I've posted pictures of these iPads earlier in this thread.

I'm holding onto this (3rd) iPad for now until the situation improves. The apple tech support said that I can hold onto it until they have addressed the problem.

Just a summary of my iPads:
1st: orange spot on top, HUGE (~7x7cm) bright orange/yellow bleed at bottom right corner
2nd: unevenly lit (cloudy) and has a orange spot towards the top right corner
3rd: slightly less unevenly lit, has yellow bleed along both edges, even visible when viewing a webpage with a white bg.

@gusnyc, if your DLXFP is not a screen bleeding problem I suppose i should give you an OK. I wait your confirmation. Thanks.

@grimes, you said DLFXL but not if it is good or bad about the screen bleeding. Thanks.

Can we get clarification as to what is being decided as OK vs BAD. Mine does have "some bleed" but barely noticeable versus the first 4 I had which were all horrible and bad. Are we creating a "perfect" for those that really see 100% absolutely NO bleed at 100% brightness?

Just wondering.... Mine I can probably accept since it is ok but I don't think it is a perfect unit like it should be... Have we come across perfect units with no bleed checked in pitch black?

I have to admit that I didn't have the energy to read all 100+ pages of this thread.

However, it's pretty clear to me that Apple is not doing a very good job of quality control.

The list of serial number is not large enough to make a difference right now. OK and bad can come from the same factory within the same week. (or is just because the same factory can have two different batches, LG and Samsung, of LCD panels at the same time?)

On top of that, of all the iPads(1 & 2) that I have played with personally, I noticed that no two have the same color temperature. Some whiter, some yellower, and some green/blu-ish..... which is better?(or at least acceptable?)'

Thanks! :)

I think I saw one which is "perfect" a few posts/pages back:

Hard to say. This is a subjective decision of each owner of what he thinks it's acceptable or not. The table is not perfect but at least we can see that more than half of the ipads comming from the different factories and from different weeks are very bad. Probably I could have done a table including comments like (X-user-BetterThanPreviousButAbitMoreBrightOnTheRightCornerThanTheFirstModel), ...but that was not my intention.

Maybe at some point we start to see all models OK in green without doubts... and that's the purpose of the table. To see when that happen and in which week, so we could go to the shop and get an ipad with some guaranties that the problem has been solved.

As 'viewliners' has said two messages before, right now we can see that in the same week there are unacceptable screens and ok ones from different factories, etc. so one thing is sure, problem not yet solved.

Has it really gotten to the point where people can't even maintain an opinion for themselves without consulting a forum? I understand if you are looking for information that could affect a purchase one way or another, but really?

Hello forum. Quick Question...What color do I like the best? What shirt looks best on me? What color of iPad do I need? What do I like better, a cool ipad screen or a warm one? Tell me forum, do I like hamburgers or hot dogs better? Wow...

Agreed. I'm SO over the "Do I need an iPad?" threads...or my favorite, "Which one is better?"

I wonder how I got such an early model new a few days ago at target. My they didn't realize they had it. Would the early date explain why I have only a little bleeding?
But I don't think a have a cool screen. I would Describe it as warm but very bright.

Just got my replacement yesterday. The ipad is at 100% brightness for both of these images. What do you guys think??

Hi!

Sadly my replacement is not ok. Both (long) sides of the screen are much dimmer than the rest. It feels like reading on a dirty, old, yellowish paper. Please include it in the not-ok list.

What is supposed to be white looks gray (on both sides). The center of the screen is bright and white. Tilting the iPad doesn't help, the sides stay dimmer/darker than the rest.

I really like the iPad 2. I think it is much better than the first one (faster and easier to hold), but sadly this is the first Apple product that I can't recommend to my friends. The screens are horrible in comparison to my first iPad. I feel so disappointed. I swear I am not being OCD.

AppleOwl, do you notice the sides of the screen to be darker than the rest? Could you please check it with an empty (white) page in Safari?

Thanks!

Gus

Nope, I don't notice anything like that on mine. The whole page has an even brightness and whiteness.

iPad no.4

Brown box from Apple store Louvre, Paris, checked instore before leaving and is perfect, the black screen is jet black (pics upcoming). I'll give credit where it's due to Apple, they have been nothing but accommodating and return/replacement never even questioned, was also told any further problems just bring it in. This also makes me believe they're aware of the problems people are experiencing. I'm not OCD and have not had cause to return any products such as I have with the ipad2. Very happy to have this sorted!

DLXFM- incidentally this iPad came with 4.3.2 installed, others had 4.3

DN6FPD - apple store Japan.

Light Bleed in bottom left and right (Landscape with on/off top left position).

I watch a lot of movies/TV shows and it's unacceptable. I noticed it in a normal lit room.

My first ipad is fine. This is going back and unless I can see the brown box replacement in action with no distracting yellow tinged areas I'm just going to get my money back and stick with the ipad 1.

Pity.

Glad to hear that you have a perfect ipad2, i wouldn't give Apple so much credit... I don't know how old (days, weeks) your ipad2 was but in the end you paid the full cost of the ipad2 to end up with a refurbished unit.
For that reason alone i would never accept a "brown box" replacement!
