I have to go to apple to get my iphone replaced due to wonky home button.. and I have been waiting and waiting to get the ipad replaced for bleed.. but it still seems like there is no point in bothering.

I also plan on talking to them about the smart cover and how bad the lines are when it is left on the screen. Why would I want a cover that made the screen even more dirty?

I will talk to them about the light bleed, but I don't expect to go through the hassle of exchange at this point.. too much of a crapshoot.

@blueguitar.. mine is yellow compared to the mbp from 2007 and the asus transformer.. that actually bothers me more than the bleed. Not sure how to represent that without a side by side... i'll try that now.

I feel for you guys but listen there's no perfect iPad or display that goes for 2-3-4 thousand dollar tvs as well, at a point you have to be happy with a unit that is acceptable. It took me 3 replacements 4th time was a charm. I've got a very acceptable unit now very feint light in one or two tiny areas. Overall uniform which is the main thing to look for as long as there aren't blobs of light scattered across all the edges you're good.

This thread probably does more harm than good for resale value but that's another story. Bottom line all will have it to some extent.

I just returned.. I had mentioned the screen and the tech checked it.. he said it should be replaced. I mentioned that I didn't want to have to swap out over and over... and that I could live with it unless they were going to ensure I received one that was better.

He said we should swap it out, went to the back to check.. gave me a brown box.

It's way worse than my first one. I'm going to call down there now and see if I can get my original back.. at least it already has a skin on the back.. it's not worth the hassle.

I bought a 64GB WiFi iPad 2 last week. It had very, very little lightbleeding & has the serial number DN6FT.

I'm very happy with it, but since having it, I can't help but constantly think that I should return it & grab a 16GB WiFi model, thus saving $200 at the same time. :( For some reason, being the s**ky cheapskate that I am, I can't help but kept thinking that the base model is the most "bang for the buck" model & it will be better for me to just save that $200 & put it into my funds for the iPad 3 purchase next year.

What to do? What to do? This is definitely a sh***y dilemma. :(

Yesterday I took my iPad 2 that was 32gb and had that minor screen bleed issue on the left side of it and I upgraded it to a brand new 64gb wifi at my local apple store..when I brought it home I saw that the screen bleed was HORRENDOUS it made my original iPad 2 with the minor screen bleed look perfect..so I took it right back to the store, showed it to the Apple Store Manager and he replaced one for me right away, gave me another brand new 64gb wifi one(In White) I took it into a dark room in the store, tested it out and it was almost perfect..I hadnt seen an iPad 2 look THAT good in a long time..it has a very very tiny screen bleed at the upper left hand side..you can hardly notice it..so I said "This one is a winner" and I took it home..I am VERY satisfied..
Whats funny is that last week I talked to Apple tech support and the supervisor shipped me another iPad 2 32gb wifi(Which I am shipping right back to them this Monday) I received it yesterday, turned it on and WOW the screen bleed was HORRIBLE so I put it right back in the box and shipping that one back so I lucked out on this 64gb iPad 2..for an extra 100 bucks to get an iPad that has a tiny tiny screen bleed is worth it

I am not sure what the first 4 numbers/letters correlate but mine that is overall good and very acceptable that im keeping as well is a: DN6FR

Oh well, the online inventory checker is showing that my local BestBuy store has got some 16GB WiFi models back in stock. I guess I'll bring in my 64GB WiFi iPad 2 for an exchange right now & save the extra $200. :D

Wish me luck. :)

i just got a 3G with DN6FR and the screen is great. the ipad was ordered 3 weeks ago.

i've seen a bunch of launch day/early release ones and the bleed was pretty bad on all of them somewhere or another around the frame.

I'm not going to advise you anything, but you are quite correct in what you say.
Without question the base 16GB model is the best "Bang for the Buck"
Also you take the smallest loss on the base model.

I've watched many many iPad's get sold, and the larger capacity models lose much much more money than the base model.

When you buy from Apple you pay a LOT for the extra memory, but come 2nd hand sale time, you struggle expecting a big premium for the large memory models.

sorry for not making my previous rant into paragraphs=) i fixed it already. anyway just a question, i've read of some who have already broken their ipads by having cracked screens caused by dropping. i was wondering if they get it fixed somewhere , not a brand new replacement but just replacing the screen part, does that change their lightbleeding? if its pressure or glue or whatever won't putting a new screen take away the problem or if the person fixing it glues it wrong make it worse?

Got my 64GB WiFi only iPad 2 swapped out for a 16GB WiFi only iPad 2 to save some money about 2 hours ago. :D Unfortunately, this new iPad 2 has got very, very bad backlight bleed. There's one blotch near the bottom right corner that is noticeable at 50% brightness when using it in my moderately lit room. :( Stupid me. Now I regret making this exchange. :( The serial number of this new iPad 2 starts with a DN6FV.

On second thoughts, I guess I probably deserve it for trying to be a smart a** in saving some money. I had known very well that if any one of us are able to find a very little or close to no bleeding screen, we should keep it at all costs, but for being a cheapskate in saving $200, I ended up giving up my good screen for a crappy one. :( I guess I had to admit that I'm a complete fail! Oh well, I'll most likely return it or I might just have to suck it up & live with it since all these exchanges can be a bit of a hassle & bring about much frustration as there are no definite way of obtaining a near non-bleeding screen. Hopefully, after a few days of using it, the bleed will "miraculously" improve.

I just realized somthing while watching Saturday Night Live

The iPad 2 ad "Now" (the newest one) features a app with constellations on the last part of the ad.

If you look closely there is light bleed in the upper right and lower left corner

congratulations! can you post a pic of your screen? so i can show the shops who keep telling me there's no defect in having bleeding

hey:) are a little afraid of reading here. get my ipad next week. Are most of the iPads broken?

I hope I get one with good color and no pixel errors. some light bleeding could be accepted as long as the colors are correct

not really broken more of having varying degrees of light bleeding. some also have dust or dead pixels but i think compared to before things are getting a little bit better, t and v units seem to be goodluck for some people. goodluck on yours=)

Run back to the store and buy back your old iPad 2 before they ship it out.

Since Apple featured backlight bleed in its own ad, I think it's fair to say that they are aware of the "issue". The question is, will Apple do anything about it? Considering that it's been 3 months since the launch, which represents about 25% of the product's update cycle, should we stop holding our collective breathes that this is going to get better?

Just returned home from my trip to my local BestBuy store. Unfortunately, the BB employee who served me told me that the unit I returned to them for an exchange yesterday was already sold. :( However, the only good news to come out of this trip was that he allowed me to return for store credit. I guess you can say that I've definitely learned my lesson. Hopefully, I'll not be overcome by greed again & be such a complete fail next time.

I guess my iPad 2 panel lottery game continues due to my stupidity. :( I think I'll wait for a couple of weeks before trying again. Who knows? By the time I go on to buy an iPad 2 again, the MBA refreshes may finally be released & I might just add a few hundred bucks to my store credit amount & go for a base 11" MBA instead. :D

Best Buy sells returned iPad 2's? a defective one at that

I've no idea BestBuy sells returned iPad 2s.

The iPad 2 that I returned yesterday had a near perfect screen. :( Maybe some BB employee "lucked out" & snagged it? However, the one I returned today had bad backlight bleeding. I do regret making that exchange yesterday. :( Oh well, I guess we constantly learn from our own mistakes in our lives. I should definitely try to get rid of all these silly & stupid mistakes in the future.
