My iPad 2 has absolutely no backlight bleed. I actually did not think it was possible for a LCD screen to have such lack of backlight bleed!

I'm curious about this, can you set your brightness to full and take a pic of your iPad 2 to prove that there is no backlight bleeding? Not that I doubt you but I'm just curious to see if there is really an iPad 2 out there that doesn't have any backlight bleeding at all.

Bringing both of our iPad 2's back to Best Buy today. This is not a glue problem as the iFixit teardown clearly shows.

My fiance and I have the 32GB and 64GB wifi-only in white. Took them out of the box -- didn't even remove the plastic prophylactic or sync them up -- and the bleed was clearly visible on both mainly along the bottom edge. Side-by-side with the first gen, this thing looks like a cheap Chinese knockoff. My sphincter is still bleeding for the cost for this garbage.

For those of you that like to whip out the strawmen in Apple's defense with a blanket statement saying every LCD has bleed, remember that we live in a relative universe. And relative to last year's iPad model, this screen is garbage.

Only bothered to take one pic but this particular spot on the 32GB looks like a glowing piss orb even with the lights on.

What is the easiest way to test this? Use camera app in a dark room?

Honestly if you don't notice it - I would say it is acceptable.

1. I don't recall this much complaining about bleeds or dead pixels with iPad1.
2. My iPad1 doesn't have these problems.
3. Maybe Apple or it's contractor went with cheaper materials or mfg. process with iPad2. Or maybe the thinner form factor required a slightly different screen.

So, who is returning theirs?

Ordered online. If it is like this I will try a replacement. If the replacement is sucky or if they refuse, I will just return it.

I have an iPad 1 already and the screen doesn't bleed.I'm not going to pay $500 for a half-assed product that they apparently just glued together.

1. I remember tons of complaining, but I also think the noise is amplified by the fact that there is actually a larger number of people buying the iPad for the first time believe it or not. Also remember that on the internet, the people with problems are always louder than the people without them.
2. Everyone's experience may vary, my iPad 2 doesn't have any problems (other than the extremely minor backlight bleed that you can't really see), and neither does the one that I bought for my dad. I also didn't notice it at all on any of the models in store (then again it's hard to see it under the bright lights).
3. The screen manufacturing process is probably a little different because it is thinner, but not so much that it should cause this problem. I think it's really just more people noticing it than anything else. 1st gen iPads were definitely just as susceptible to this problem.

Went today (Sat 12th) to return my day old iPad 2 (black 32GB Wi-Fi) at Best Buy.
They said they will accept manufacturing defects for up to a year as Apple has authorized them to do so.
They suggested hanging on to it until a replacement arrives.

I bought 2 and they both have the bleed :(

I bought them at BestBuy but I'll be exchanging at :apple: when inventory levels out.

I just returned mine at BB with no problems after talking to Apple support on the phone. I described the issue, and the guy from Apple said this shouldn't be happening and that I should get it replaced. So I guess it was fun having an iPad 2 for the night.

Returned both of ours to BB. They asked me what the issue was, I said "light leakage/backlight bleed" an there were no further questions. They took them both back without argument and without even turning them on. No plan to purchase replacements any time soon; the Mrs still has a first gen for the time being & I can live without. ;)

Yeah mine will be going back this week as well.

The bleed is not going to disappear because the screen is clearly pinched at certain points so its not some glue issue like people were claiming it might be.

It is a great machine overall and maybe ill grab one again when things have settled down and new shipments start to appear with positive feedback about the screen issues being addressed.

For $742 with tax i dont want to be disappointed every time i use the device.

Has anyone taken it back to the apple store yet. I've got a small amount of bleeding. My main problem is a bright blemish about 2 inches from the upper right corner. Thinking of taking back in a week Or so once things settle down.

Purchased mine from Apple yesterday. I ordered another today and plan on returning my original once the new one comes in. What is Apples return policy, any restocking fee?

Did you get a different model? If not, why not just get a replacement for the one you have instead of buying a whole new one?

When bought the first iPad I had an issue with dust under the screen. They swapped out for me no problem. Hope for the same thing this time.

I wasn't sure when they will be back in stock, so it was easier to order another and wait rather than trying to play the inventory game.

Sup man -- i see you live near me. I took mine back to the walden apple store and got a replacement unit. Took it home and I see the same problem. I even opened it in the store, but you can't tell unless its really dark in the room you're in. The new one is more of a yellowish piss orb as one person put it, were as the previous one was way worse. I don't know what to think -- I gotta feeling a LOT of ipad 2s are going to have this problem...maybe it will go away maybe it won't...I don't know. But for now I'm going to wait. Apple has done all they can to try to fix the issue by getting me set up with a replacement and the replacement has the same problem -- so what is left to do except wait...wait and see if it goes away, or wait and see if they aknowledge that it's a problem, or wait for the next "batch" that don't have this problem and exchange it.

Here's the "new" one -- still in plastic wrap:

I have spent time on three other iPads and four iPhones with ZERO perceptible bleeding. ...

Can't get very good pictures without a real camera, but I'm on my way back to BB this morning. These might give a tiny hint of what it really looks like--in person it is hugely distracting during video playback...
Gad, that is awful!

I exchanged my 64 GB for a 32 GB first generation model. The screen is gorgeous--pure black all around the edges with absolutely no bleeding. Plus, I got $200 back. I will start saving for the iPad 3 and hopefully they will have the bleeding under control by the time they are ready to reveal the retina display (and maybe a higher quality camera).
