Me Too

My White 64G Wi-Fi has it too. I first noticed it in a dark room when shutting down. The brightness was at the factory set 50%.

I am waiting until critical mass and Apple makes some kind of statement on it.

Honestly, if Apple didn't do anything about it, I wouldn't freak out.

Just picked up a 32gb wifi from apple store and bleeding is incredibly bad. I will post pictures soon, as I'm typing this on the iPad 2 right this moment. I guess I will just play around with it until stock levels go up for exchanges. Does anyone know if it's 30 days return/exchange policy still?

Also, I've heard about stored stock specifically for exchanges. (boxed new, not refurb). Has anyone experience that before?

Every iPad I've seen has had the backlight bleeding to some extent, including my first one. However, the bleeding on my iPad 2 is far worse and for $900 (w/ tax..) is pretty bad if you ask me...

Pressing on the bezel and side of the screen makes the left side bleed more/less depending where you're pressing. However the bleeding on the bottom, top, and right side doesn't change when applying pressure to the area at all.

Yeah, my 64 GB White has it in the exact same areas :( Maybe a bit more on the left side than this one. So, there is no hope that this might work itself out?

Has anyone taken it back to the apple store yet. I've got a small amount of bleeding. My main problem is a bright blemish about 2 inches from the upper right corner. Thinking of taking back in a week Or so once things settle down.

Yea same here, lower right corner.

Problem is taking it back doesn't gaurantee a flawless replacement. Looking at some of the people who posted, I'm thinking mine isn't so bad...

If I'm returning it, I'm gonna hold off for a few months until people stop posting about light bleeding issues LOL

Wow?

I bet if this was Android the fanboys would be flooding the net, bashing it immediately.

Ah yes, the hypocritical double standard ;)

Wait, Android has "fanboys"? Why would any self respecting :apple: fan buy an Android device or bother posting about one?

As promised, here are my backlight bleeding pics from a freshly opened 32gb Wifi.

50% Brightness:

100% Brightness:

Yes... it's bad.

Here's mine. 25% brightness. My two iPad 1's did not have this problem. It is distracting when using it in a dark room (at night). 64g Verizon. The screen just doesn't look as black as my 64g AT&T first gen.

^^ My 32gb wifi looks almost identical to yours. Same exact areas... didn't actually notice it until this morning:(

Well, if it's the same display as the first gen, then I'd say it's normal, depending on your brightness settings. Try tilting your device left and right whilst on a black screen like that and see it change. Personally, I'm not a big fan of backlit LED screens right now. My macbook SR 2007 screen was far more comfortable to look at than the early 2010 macbook pro I have right now, even after calibration. Lets face it, we all knew the ipad 2 was not getting a better display. Also, I blame Apple for this a lot as I have requested numerous times for the brightness control to go as low as iBooks as standard. I guess I've got sensitive eyes, but for night time use, it's just too damn bright for me.

sunglasses.

should try em out sometime.

I have two bad units

Upgraded both my wife and I's first gen iPads (with no noticeable screen issues on them). Both the second gen black 64gb and white 32gb exhibit this issue. The white from every side, the black from the bottom right. The black also has some strange "glowing" pixels that look a lot brighter (very noticeable on white background). So that is 0/2 for me. They will probably both go back, for sure the black since the glowing pixel issue is actually worse to me (you can see it in any light easily).

iPad 2 backlight Bleed is a defect / Apple store states defect

I went through FOUR iPad2s in the last 24 hours (3 of the 64GB WiFi, 1 of the 32GB WiFi) while at the store . The Apple store techs looked at each one. They had to void the previous sale, ring up the replacement each time. Each one got progressively worse.

It looks like small "half-moons" rising from the bezel. YOU CAN ONLY SEE IT IN DIM LIGHTING - preferable with the VIDEO APP or some other dark running app. So, if you wait to turn on your new iPad tonight and hope to watch a movie, picture little beams of light coming from outside the bezel and tell me if you can concentrate on your app/movie. I couldn't...not for $756.

Do not let the Apple folks show you the product in store lighting...you cannot see it in store lighting. Take it to their restroom and turn off the lights. The first three had the problem in the bottom right of the screen, the fourth had it all around the bezel.

It's not the store's fault that Apple did not apparently test their products. Bought mine in Apple store directly. Finally just walked away with original iPad (not iPad 2). Told them I's wait for iPad 3 this fall with Retina display (which they said was more than likely true).

Let you in on something. Apple will say or admit Nothing.

Are you serious? Apple publicly acknowledged antennagate, the yellow glue spots and the proximity sensor issue, made software fixes to correct those issues and yet, if still not satisfied, offered customers replacement/refund. Not to mention they also acknowledged their embarrassing white iPhone indefinite delay fiasco at the iPad 2 unveiling by assuring us white iPads would be "available from day one."

Aside from the antenna, please post a link to any puplic announcement from apple stating your above. Apple btw never to my knowledge to this day has said word 1 on the white iPhone. Steve was joking it off, that's about it.

sorry, guys

Sorry for your troubles, guys! Hope you find a good one soon.

Wondering if I receive a defective one from the Apple.com site, can I exchange at the Apple Store locally?

Mine isn't horrible... but it is there... Added 2 more... that's as good as this 3.2mp camera will get. Yeah I know what I need to buy next...

My god that nearly looks perfect. I would love to have that screen. Hopefully I can get one like that on my exchange unit.
And actually it was quite a bit worse yesterday, first thing I noticed. So here's to hope that it continues to get better. I can't capture it properly with this crappy camera but it's not quite a good as it looks...
