My bleeding looks almost precisely the same - exact same spots. With brightness low I could live with the left side but the big one in the upper right (when held vertical) is a deal breaker. Seems like any iPads shipped from this supplier will have the same symptoms.

Well, I think I need to say that last week I finally received my two iPad2's. And the backlight bleed on both devices was minimal: it was nothing compared to some examples provided in this thread.

I believe that Apple is finally able to get a grip on the issue to a certain extent and in a couple of weeks/months it will finally be solved.

Digitimes relays a report from the Commercial Times newspaper that claims Apple is exploring the possibility of adding yet another supplier to their tablet-making process. This time the new supplier is a company called Everlight and they reportedly have built and sent Apple LED backlights to Apple for “verification.”Evernote’s LED technology is said to be bright at 2,000 millicandelas (mcd). Everlight as been producing these types of bright LED displays for tablet PC manufacturers since March of this year.

We will have to see if these LED backlights will make their way into iPad 2s produced in the later days of the iPad 2s product cycle, and if this LED technology is superior to the LED technology found in the currently shipping iPad 2. It wouldn’t be a surprise for Apple to silently start making their iPad 2s better about 6-7 months after the device’s initial release.

So, my iPad bleeds a little. Not much, but it is noticeable. Here's my report:

I just got off the phone with Apple Support and the guy I was talking to told me (after he consulted with his superior) that iPads that are being shipped to customers now shouldn't have the issue anymore. Due to problems in terms of availability he asked me to call in again in 4 weeks time and then they'll send me a new, bleed-free iPad.

Picture taken at 100% brightness in darkness.

It was taken with a black screen, but the iPad is so damn bright on 100% it looks blue in the image.

this is got to be the best image of the ipad 2 screen i've seen so far.

VERYYYYYYYYYYYYY little light bleed on the bottom... VERY VERY VERY LITTLE.

i hope my new replacement will be like this!!!

this is great news and i hope it's not BS

Don't know really what to think. I'm just reporting what the guy said, but I won't comment. It could well be BS, then again what he says might be true. I guess we'll have to wait for reports from folks who'll receive their replacements within the next weeks.

my new replacement will ship May 3rd, so hopefully by then it will have been fixed!!! :D

I've been feeling the same way about this...wish I would of went for the deal on the 64gb wifi/3G iPad 1 .... hell of a deal and I doubt id see as much light leak than this ipad 2 I have in my possession now. Yes the speed is amazing....the cameras...could live without.

I did this, went to cheap iPad 1, after having to return 2 iPad 2. I ended up taking the iPad 1 back and getting another iPad 2. I have been guaranteed by a Apple manager (and I trust him) that my issue will be resolved.. maybe not this week but it will. Yes, I could end up with a refurb but IMO if the iPad I end up with looks good, works good and the screen isn't janky then as a customer I am happy.

I just had to go back to iPad 2 due to size and speed. I thought I liked the hardware of iPad 1 better but I like the way I hold and use 2 better. Also, 2 is noticeably faster to me across the board (apps/web/menus).

My iPad is 8 days old, and I saw backlight bleed for the first time last night (two spots). My iPad should be part of this crop of "new" ones that are being shipped to customers now, right?

I'm not sure if I should chance it and try to get a replacement or just return it and wait for Apple to fix the problem properly. Based on what people here have been saying, replacements aren't any better.

I'm in the UK and was wondering whether we need to go into the Apple store to get a replacement or whether they can just send one out?

It's going to be a while...

Check out this article over on AppleInsider. It looks like Apple is looking for a new LED backlight supplier due to "supply issues", but the article also alludes to the backlight bleeding issue. If this search for a new supplier is true, don't expect the backlight bleed issue to be resolved anytime soon. It's going to be a while before any new components make it into the supply chain, especially components that have not been certified by Apple.

It's starting to look like this issue won't be resolved for a few months. Enjoy the iPad you have and exchange it once it's been confirmed that new units are shipping without the issue, or return it now and buy it later once you've confirmed the same. But anything you are likely to get now or at least in the next few weeks to a couple of months is still going to be put together the same way, with the same problems.

Perhaps this is why the :apple:care guy I spoke to said 4 months?

Pretty obvious that Apple is running into supply chain issues with the current demand, adverse world events, etc. The article makes mention of some complaining about light bleed, but I would venture to say that this addition to Apple's LCD suppliers is not in response to that.

I understand the optimism, but with the technology and price point, you simply aren't going to get anything different. Not sure why it doesn't sink in with most that this 'issue' existed with the iPad 1 as well. Why would you think Apple is suddenly giving it credence after the iPad 2 has already been launched? Common sense would tell you that they wouldn't, as the demand is so high for the device, any light bleed from the 1st or 2nd generations is a non-issue in the overall scheme of things.

The fact of the matter is that majority of consumers really don't care.

This is great that Apple is looking for a new LED supplier but I am having so much fun with my iPad that it does not ruin my day. What ruins my day is the constant complaining here on Macrumors.

I love this site and the forums but man I am avoiding it lately because of the the constant crying about it. We do not have much choice unless you want to use another Tablet that isn't as good.

The iPad is so portable and convenient that this screen bleed issue isn't a big enough deal for me to put my iPad down.

I am upset about it but seriously who cares. Having one negative on an almost flawless product isn't that bad.

:)

I could 100% see your point of view but it was called for. Sorry. But it was. It's just getting old.

There isn't much carcass left on the dead horse, Fyi. :)

You couldn't have missed my point, could you? I certainly was not speaking of the backlight issue (with which I heartily agree), but I meant the stream of foul language, and most particularly coupling it with Jesus. THAT was way off base, and uncalled for. Jesus is my Savior, and also of many others on here I'm sure (and yours too if you want Him).

I did not miss your point. I can see it. But I live in the real world not in some church hiding from the outside world like my grandparents do. Plus I am a combat veteran so I could care less about bible thumpers opinions as I have grown up with this religion stuff my whole life.

Normally I would never cross this line but I had to.

You know the thread that has these words in it 'bleed', 'backlight' - why don't you avoid that thread...

It is a lot like saying my fingers hurt when I tw@t them with a hammer. You know what....I know how to stop those fingers hurting...

So backlight bleeders, how are the abominations doing this fine Monday?
