My summation

So let me summarize

1) Awful camera
2) backlight bleed on almost all the units
3) weak wifi lots of reports
4) no sd memory card expansion
5) no flash

I hope droid buries Apple in this market shouldn't be hard...I'll keep this junk for 6months then eBay when something better is out

Points 1, 3-5 you knew before you bought it and possibly 2 as well...yet, you still bought it and are keeping it for 6 months as you say. That is the sole reason no one will take down Apple......

With iPad 2 coming to Toys R US, I have moderated my stance somewhat on the light bleed issue. While I don't feel it should be so widespread in a consumer device, the fact that Apple wants to sell one on every street corner should tell us something very important. To Apple, at least right now, quality seems to be secondary to sales volume and market share.

I am much more critical of the quality in a product I buy at the Apple Store or directly from Apple than I would be if I purchased the thing at Toys R Us. After all, would we all be so critical of the device's quality if it were marketed as a toy versus a quality computing device? I doubt the people who buy at Toys R Us are going to be anywhere nearly as critical as those in these forums.

If I am disappointed about anything iPad, it's simply that it isn't a professional product. I find it hilarious how Apple advertises this thing as being used in hospitals and enterprise applications, then signs a contract to sell these at Toys R Us. I wonder how many corporations would have eyed RIM with suspicion if it also sold Blackberries at toy outlets. I'm all for Apple selling iPads, but at Toys R Us? Really? Seriously? Come on!

The iPad is the new Commodore 64.

You'd be surprised at what else Toys R Us sells nowadays. If you think about it, toys r us ditched amazon a while ago and they're hurting due to amazon's online sales. This may be the saving grace for toys r us, well at least to get customers to walk through their doors.

And u turn to tech? ;)

Love the tolerance and it's nice to know every single forum is the same. LOL!

I thought his reply was quite appropriate. Posting threatening things about invisible superstitions really doesn't belong in a "tech" forum.
Though I figured it was meant as a joke... I mean it's gotta be right?
:D

Could someone give me a breakdown on how I can see if I have any backlight bleeding on my iPad2? Would be much appreciated. Thank you.

#1895 - Talking about one's faith is not 'forcing' it on people. They are free to walk away, just as we are free to talk about it. This is America. And this is NOT 'toleration', it is FREEDOM. There is a HUGE difference!
Guys, enough with the religion stuff. And First Amendment rights don't apply on a moderated internet forum. Besides, what religion has to do with backlight bleeding is beyond me, but regardless, I'm pretty sure that the way this thread has been derailed is going to get it closed. Nice work.

The end.

Funny thing, tho... I don't remember seeing any threads about backlight bleed with the iPad 1. I also don't remember reading any complaints about bleeding as well, even though the first iPad was also used in the dark. So with all the complaints we are seeing today, how can you say that the same issue existed with the iPad 1? It may have existed, yes, but not to this extent. Given the number of complaints w/ iPad 2, it's fair to say the issue is far more widespread with iPad 2 than it was with iPad 1.

Then you aren't looking hard enough. A simple search on the net going back over a year will produce plenty of these same light bleeding issues on the iPad 1. Maybe that Apple is selling so many more of the iPad 2's and at a faster rate, the issue is slightly more prevalent. I had 8 iPad 1's, and they all had light bleed.

You say its 'fair to say' which is incorrect. You are basing your opinion on this forum and a couple others like it. This is not representational of even a fraction of the iPad's that have been sold. If that same philosophy were true of LCD televisions, just about every model would be faulty as there are plenty of complaints on light bleed, no matter what the brand.

Got my iPad replaced...but had to wait for a refurbished unit, not swapped for a new one. The replacement is absolutely perfect, no bleed at all. I actually would prefer a replacement than one out of the box because the majority out of the box seem to have light bleed.

Please post pictures!!!!!!!!!

I am really annoyed with my light bleed but it is one of the better screens so I need to know when to replace and as soon as more people say the don't have light bleed I am going to replace it.

Add on: Where did you get it? Apple Care or Genius Bar

Can you post pictures of the new one.

So, let me get this clear it is a replacement in the sense of it is a new unit or a refurbished one? I think it be the former, right?

Just got off with apple support again

They said apple is still looking into the problem and it most likely be fixed soon

They also suggested I go into an apple retail store to get more info about the issue and also to see if I can get a tested swap or they offered to send me a tested swap from apple care but for now I don't want to take the risk (anyone have a successful tested swap with no light bleed?)

I will wait another few weeks and go into the apple store to get it swapped (if the issue is fixed) but I will be going to go to an apple store soon to get more info about the issue (and perhaps a bleed free iPad if they have any)

Edit: senior adviser called back on phone now

It was at the genius bar at the apple store and replacement came in a cardboard box as opposed to getting a new one out of a ipad box. Not sure if that means refurb or not?

Anyway... here is my previous ipad

My replacement at 100% brightness. Shutter speed was being weird, but there is no hollywood lights thing going on. (black background looks blue I guess)
