I don't understand why everyone keeps trying replacements obviously apple knows about the issue and isn't going to pull out a ton of perfect iPads out of nowhere, might as well have care record the complaint and exchange when the issue is completely resolved, and in the meantime there will be enough iPads for people who still can't find them

When I called AppleCare two weeks ago they told me to check back in a couple of weeks because they couldn't guarantee a replacement iPad that would not have the same issue. When I called today the person I talked too scheduled a Genius appointment to have mine replaced. She didn't seem to think waiting was necessary. I don't know if the replacement they ordered will be any better but I am hoping it will be. Honestly other people getting one is not my problem since I already paid Apple $830 + tax for one and the Genius saw the problem with mine in about 5 seconds under the counter (he didn't have to take it into a closet with all the lights off).

just returned mine today, they didnt have a replacement so i took a full refund. Prob gonna wait out couple of weeks see if there's any improvements

Well according to Engadget Toys R Us will be getting a load for all it's stores within a few days.

Guess this proves it is indeed a "toy" ... And that today's kids are pretty damn spoiled

Think I'll wait

I had backlight bleed issues on the first iPad 2 I purchased at a local Apple Store. I took it back for a full refund a week after purchasing it. The one I purchased a couple of weeks ago at Micro Center had light bleed in the lower left corner, so I took it back tonight.

The tech at Micro Center took it back, and confirmed he saw it even with a lighter background. They didnt have any iPad 2s in stock, so I opted for a refund. The tech and I discussed having no issues with our iPad 1s, and all the backlight bleeding issues iPad 2s are having. We agreed that the 2 was rushed to market.

Strangely, all the Apple Stores I called, as well as Micro Center, reported no iPad 2 shipments today. I hope that's a sign Apple is investigating this more closely.

The units I returned were both 64GB white WiFi models.

From Spain:

Here's my brand-new "iPad Backlight" (click to zoom):

Sent on April 6th because a supervisor told me "you will get your replacement in less than a week". Of course, I naively relied on her. Arrived in Holland on April 7th... Still waiting for my iPad.

I phoned Apple Care on Friday. A "big" boss in Europe told me: "sorry, but I cannot tell you when your replacement will arrive, because there are no iPads". Here in Spain, and I suppose that in the rest of Europe too, they open a reservation hour at 9PM so that people can purchase their iPad to pick it up the next day at an Apple Store in Madrid and Barcelona.

HOW THEY DARE TO SAY THAT THERE ARE NO IPADS??? Do they think we're idiots or something? They keep selling a defective product, people keep spending their money, but I have already paid for something that I don't have and that I don't know when I will receive. In my opinion, 2 happy customers are better than 4 upset customers. LOTS of people who were looking forward to buy it are now just unsure about buying or not. If everybody would say: "oh, yes, it's perfect, you should buy it", Apple's reputation will still get growing.

I had my iPad less than two weeks and I have been waiting for it to come back more than two weeks. This is not fair.

I have to call back on Tuesday "just in case" they can INFORM about when I will receive it. Disappointing. I only want to have a non-defective iPad, that's it. I have already paid for it. It is not that difficult.

With iPad 2 now being sold by Toys R Us, I say good luck with Apple finding a fix to the bleeding issue. Apple is expected to announce over 7 million iPad 2 sales this quarter, blowing away last year's model. Apple pushing this product into more mass market outlets means that Apple is much more concerned with volume and countering Android than delivering a perfect product.

I suspect Apple will have the kinks worked out by iPad 3. Hopefully by then we'll see decent quality cameras, a higher resolution screen, and fully able to handle iOS 5. Right now, the iPad feels like the iPhone's bastard stepchild. In terms of screen and camera specifications, the iPhone 4 still has the latest iPad beaten and is pretty much on a par with everything else. iPhone 5 should change that.

I wish there were an iPad Pro running a more open, less restrictive and more customizable version of iOS that was designed for productivity rather than content consumption. I would actually use such a device. But as long as the iPad is nothing more than a toy, which is what it is for the most part, it's not something on which I can spend my money.

So I have had my iPad 2 for a little under a week and like everyone else's iPad I have light bleed. I know mine isn't the worst out there but I was wondering if I should try to swap it for a different one or is there a good chance I am going to just get one just as one or worse. Right now I think I will wait until they can fix this and then swap it. What do you think?

@ 50% that isnt too bad....I would hold off, chances of getting one worse @ 50% seem pretty high to me. However I would definitely watch your 14 day or return window period. If you are not 100% happy return it. Im past my 14 days and keeping my fingers crossed they allow me to warranty at a later date.

PS - I logged a complaint with Apple and call every other week to confirm my case is still open in their system.

If you're going to post a pic, please list the brightness percentage used. Also post pics at the percentage that you actually use the iPad, not 100%. if you really want an accurate photo, post a pic, at normal brightness, running an app, playing a video, or showing a picture. Sorry, I don't stare at black screens at 100% brightness.

posted this earlier, would this be in-spec in your opinion? I know it's not as bad as others, but both geniuses I spoke to said this is normal for any device LCD

Saw an ipad 1, iphone 4 in a pitch black room and the light bleeding is not as bad as what you have posted.

I would exchange it or wait until they get their act together.

I posted my brightness level
I also normally use my iPad at 50%

My 5th iPad isnt great but it does seem to have goy a bit better over time. My theory is that if the bleeding is due to unequal pressure being put on them and then glued in place under normal use some of this pressure may be released in time as the screen and glue moves slightly.
