Have yet to take cmvsm seriously. This is in line with what an Apple Manager told me.. he didn't mention this exact "F" situation but an Inventory Manager explained to me how the issue would be found/identified and resolved but it might take a month or more.

I have been entertained how certain posters here have kept telling us we should accept this all the while most who have spoken to Apple have been told it is NOT how the iPad should be and is, and I quote the Apple Store Manager,"A warrantable issue".

Lol...the letter 'F' simply means that the iPad was manufactured in the first half of the year. Good luck with your magic fix. Maybe Apple will share the pixie dust with Sony, Samsung, and LG. At least the Apple Manager got you out of the store to extend his lunch hour by 15 minutes, hoping that within the month timeline, you will have either forgotten about it or just stop bothering.

So, one could extrapolate that all iPad 2s manufactured in the first half of the year have light bleed, and those in the second half... well, we'll just have to wait and see. Just sayin...

I spoke with apple (have a serial number of "F" as well) and he said:

1. Apple is very much aware of the issue.
2. Apple has collected many samples from one shipment for some reason.
3. The issue HAS been resolved (said this multiple times and with emphasis - said it won't be an issue for much longer).
4. Said I should return the iPad to Toys R Us and get a new one. Said the new one should be perfect.
5. Wouldn't comment on different models having different LED screens (from different suppliers) but nearly agreed that switching to a 3G model would mean there would be no bleed etc.

All together a reassuring phone call.

I have an iPad 2 with the serial containing the forth letter F as well.
So, what should we do now? Exchange our devices?

As someone stated, it might just mean that the iPad has been assembled in the first half of the year. So, I guess this info in meaningless... :(

I'd wait a bit. I'm not all that confident that perfect iPads will be rolling out anytime soon. Just a gut feeling though but worth keeping an eye on it.

By the way I have the dreaded F too if that means anything.

Pretty sure everyone has the F.

I just got off the phone with :apple: Executive Relations, I'm having mine swapped out again, the rep sent pics to some "engineering" team at Cupertino who asked for the device to be replaced yet again.

She said "all iPad 2's are now being screened before leaving the factory" - make of that what you will.

At least I got a free upgrade to 64GB w00t!

hey, are you in the UK or USA?
Congrats on the free upgrade? Did you have 32GB before?
And how do you go about getting a replacement? Do we need to go into an apple store?

P.s. I'm in the UK

I just phoned up my apple store and they said they will most likely not have any iPads in stock this weekend so I should make an appointment with a genius, go in and they will order a replacement. I told them I don't want to end up with a replacement iPad with the same problem like many others have experienced and was told they would let me see the replacement in a dark room to make sure it's alright.

I'm really not sure what to do, I can't go to the apple store every week. Should I just wait a few months and then go and get a replacement? The warranty isn't at it's best in the first month or anything is it?

I can definitely live with it at the moment but as I explained on the phone it is a lot of money I paid for it and it has defects. I don't care if I can't notice it unless I try to find it. It is a defect nonetheless.

also, how did you get through to executive relations?

I was given a brown box refurbished unit during my 14 day window and I called Apple Care who acknowledged that should not have happened and my case was refereed to some relations team via the AppleCare rep.

Go back to your store and insist on a replacement or to be called when one becomes available.

Good Luck, I'm waiting for my fourth replacement!

Thanks!

Can just say, first of all, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to my message! It's long and full of silly questions but I am new to all this Apple stuff so

I am definitely going to visit my store for a replacement, but I am thinking of waiting a couple of months first, do you think this is a good idea?

I honestly don't have the time to have multiple replacements by going in so often as my apple store isn't too close really. And they said on the phone they would have to order in a replacement for me

Folks,

If I order from the apple store online now instead of picking one up from in store..would I get the newer fixed/prescreened batch?
