Third time was a charm.

Picked up my 64gb 3G from the Trafford Centre (Manchester, UK) earlier today and this one is good.

With the screen at 100% and in a dark room it looks good. I have to really really look to see anything. It looks better (or equal too) my MacBook Pro screen.

The first one had it pretty bad, second one not as bad (waited 8 days for it) and the third one (which I'm keeping) took about 3 days to get here.

Could you post a picture, I have an interest in this. A lot of what I saw coming out of there in the early days had the BLB terribly. It would be nice to see just how much better their new batches are :)

yeah, whatever the count was, they had it worse than anything i've owned from apple. sigh...again, i went through a couple AND so has my girlfriend. Amazing, do you not know anyone else in real life who has purchased one? A coworker and others have forwarded me a link from engadget about apple confirming they had "production issues" but pushed forward. Research it, you'll find it.

and yeah, my time is pretty much worthless, hence why i'm here. cvm, didn't mean to overly offend you there. I'm just sayin, you're awfully defensive for someone who believes its completely natural. but yeah, you're right. i grew a brain and said eff this madness. got an ipod touch for myself instead lol. don;t know bout the genius' though, they probably could care less, they're there for a check, nothing more nothing less.

I have seen a *LOT* of ipad2s and I do not mean 8. The lot I have seen have generally had poor BLB issues. However, that was in the early phase of supply and I have not seen any recent ones.

I would be interested to see if things really have been sorted out :)

Went to my appointment and when the Genius ducked under then counter to have a look at the iPad in the dark, she was all of about 2 seconds before reappearing and saying 'Well, that didn't take long… that's awful!' - she seemed to have a stronger reaction to it than me!

She mentioned that she's dealt with a couple of other people who had claimed the same issue, but it was nothing like mine.

They didn't have the same model in black and in stock, so was offered white then and there or to wait for new stock - I'm going to wait. Have to say, the customer service that I got was great, simply great.

Just to give an update on my experience, my first 2 ipads both had dead pixels with no sign of backlight bleed, my 3rd and 4th!! have had no dead pixels but both with severe backlight bleed, both where bottom left corner in portrait with yellow sploges all around the edges. I have decided to leave off for now and got a gift card, theres no way im putting up with that especially that the ipad 1 never had any issues like this....

Got mine delivered on wednesday 20th April, 64 Gb Black wifi model, light leakage all around the edges. Made an appointment with the Genius bar at the nearest Apple Store (Arndale Centre, Manchester) the next day. The female agent took it to the staff toilet (apparently the only place she can switch the lights off) lol, came out after few minutes, she said it was bad and she can replace it with a new one, i thought i should mention that i ordered from currys online, asked if i called them, said no lol, she seems to be cool with it. didn't have any in stock, so ordered one and said it could be between 5-7 days. Got a call yesterday to pick it up, so i went down this morning to pick it up, made the agent open it for me to check, thankfully this one was perfect, no leakage whatsoever :D BTW the service was excellent.:)

whats the best site to sell electronics? I usually do eBay but is there an easier method anyone could recommend?

it was for the ipad2...someone was asking

i'm interested if things were sorted out as well, hence, again, why i'm here.:), hey if its sorted out and people actually get decent screens, i'll be back on board but only for the 16gb this time around, but thats a big IF.

cvm, ignored, you haven't been helpful at all, and neither have your posts. thanks for nothin.

are the apple guys starting to get annoyed or something and not be as willing to dole out so many replacemetns? because I still haven't gotten mine replaced yet

I just took my brand new iPad 2 as of yesterday into a completely dark room in my house(closet) and noticed several yellow tinge spots around the edges. My understanding is that Apple is having these manufactured as fast as possible and shipped just as fast. I'm hoping the yellow tinge spots is just the glue that will eventually dry. Honestly I didn't notice it until I loaded Rage HD in which the intro is mostly black around the edges. Not a real eyesore, but not something I want to deal with on a device I just paid $790 for either. Will give this a few weeks at least, otherwise it's back to the store for this one! Also no light leakage here just yellow spots, and I experienced neither on my iPad 1.

Just bear in mind you have 14 days to return if problems still persist.

Understood, but if I remember correctly. This same problem was happening with some iPhone 4's and after a few days time it eventually went away. My biggest concern here other than the yellow tinge is the availability of the iPad 2 if I need to make a return. This was purchased at Best Buy(The Apple store was all sold out), and I plan to sell my original iPad and cannot go without either one for an extended period of time until one becomes available.

So, does anyone have an iPad 2 that does not have backlight bleeding?

As incredible as it may sound, I do. I returned quite a few before I found one that passed inspection.....but my back 64 gb verizon iPad 2 has no bleed. Bought it at Target last week. I was thrilled to finally see a good one!

Yellow tint on replaced iPad2

Hi everybody.

Been following macrumors for quite a while now and decided to join the community...

I recently got my iPad 2 replaced cause it had really bad backlight bleeding.

The bleeding is gone but unfortunatly, my new iPad has a yellow tint throughout the whole screen and is also much darker even with brightness at 100%. Looks like it has been in a smoker's household for years.

Don't know if i should try again to get it replaced again or just live with it.

You never know, the next replacement could be worse...

Is the yellow tint only showing on high brightness?

If the problem becomes recognized by Apple then you will most likely be able to get it replaced by Apple for free even after your return period is up. I recently had an iPhone 4 replaced for free by Apple because of a bad sleep/wake button. If you cannot live with the tinge then exchange it, otherwise I'd say hold off.

So another updated for you guys regarding my iPad 2's BLB and my experience at the Genius Bar. Went there Wednesday, the guy checked it out and said it was out of spec enough that they would replace, but said to come back the next day as their systems were down. Went back Thursday, the Genius guy I dealt with was not as nice this time. He didn't think mine was bad and said that doing this replacement was a one time thing and there was no guarantee that the new one would be any better. He said, if I didn't like the replacement, he would not just keep opening new ones until I found one I liked. When he went to put it in the system, he said that they had none in stock and they would call me when they got the replacement in.

Based on my experience, it seems like my store has been getting a lot of people in with this issue because they now seem to be doing a backlight bleed replacement just once. I explained to the guy that it was annoying seeing the bleed when watching movies even at 40% brightness, but he didn't care.

I will report back when they get the replacement in and I go check it out.

thats a terrible attitude from an apple specialist. trust me, you can replace it as much as you like. I had the exact problems on two of my ipads and I had talked my way up to the senior management on phone. I am able to get totally new replacements as long as I have the black light problem. Only bad side to it was I had to wait for new orders to be placed every time I do a new replacement. That doesnt matter too much to me as long as Im getting a new and working product for what I paid for.

As i mentioned before, all stores will begin to go to this. I see some people on this forum stating that there is some kind of internal Apple recall on devices, and this store obviously did not get the memo. I was told by an Apple DM in my area that initially, on the launch of any new item, they take back any returns for any reason during a grace period after launch. Not sure what that is, but looks like we might be getting close to that threshold with the Apple iPad 2.

Again, this problem existed with the iPad 1. Apple didn't seem to change to a new panel to address the issue with the transition to the iPad 2. So why in the world would someone think that they are going to do something after launch, when the demand is as high as it is?? Swallow your emotional knee jerk responses and think about it from a business standpoint.

At this price point, you are not going to get a better piece of hardware. Its not perfect, but there is not a competitor that can come close, at least not yet. As I mentioned before, if you have one where during typical operation, whatever that means for you, that is exhibiting a high degree of bleed or yellow tint, then by all means get it exchanged. However, as Apple stores begin to get more picky with what they take back, it will weed out the OCD issues from the actual problematic machines.

Good luck!!

There seems to be iPad 2 units out there with little to no bleed. Still too dicey to exchange for a better unit though.

Well, I for one wouldn't buy a glitchy product, i'll return it 10 times if I have to. If i'm spending over $500 or any amount of money i want my product to work like it should. ;]

I agree, I have a white one with some bleed and its going back wednesday night on my day off.
For $729 plus tax I shouldnt have to settle

Is the yellow tint only showing on high brightness?

no, it's even worse with lower brightness.

it is not nice to look at, especially after having worked on my macbook pro.

the white is really brownish/yellowish. Since the display is the one outstanding part of iPads, there should really be a better quality control in the future.
