You do know that they announced the transition several years before, right? Studios did not update because it was not worth it for them to do so.
They are completely bog-standard LPDDR5 chips soldered onto the package near the SoC, there's nothing special about them. People with special tools have already managed to upgrade from 8GB to 16GB.
But yes, 8GB is on their lowest tier computers aimed at browsing and lightweight office stuff (and no the OS can't mitigate for lack of RAM if the app needs it). It's to be expected they try to differentiate their product lines and upsell and Apple is not known for cheap stuff.

Yes it does, but the 4k monitor I'm playing on is only a 60hz monitor as it is, but it's rock steady at 60fps. BUT, I should say, I haven't taken this current character into Baldur's Gate itself yet, so it may get a hit there, unless they've patched some of that in the latest release. Even on Geforce Now, it's kind of iffy in some parts of the city. I mean, even the PC players have complained about the graphic lag they sometimes experience in the city (which is the 3rd act).
Yeah, I just use the PS5 and Switch for all my gaming needs and they're great. However, for MS exclusives like Starfield and, I assume, future Wolfenstein games, it would be nice to be able to play them on my M2 Studio if they won't run on PS5.
A lot of people don't need more than 8Gb of memory. They will never game on the Mac.
I have never played a game on the Mac, the exception being the trying the built in chess game in 2009/2010 when I got my first Mac.
We would like to both an 8Gb version for $999 and a 16Gb version for $1099 to exist.
We know that increasing memory for the base model would likely increase the price.
A lot of you are arguing about making 16Gb standard but not mention price at all.

We agree that Mac Pro is a different case. Personally I look forward to Apple doing something special with the M3 Mac Pros.

You are the one who failed to understand as 16GB of RAM is nothing. Why do you think using 16GB will increase the price? Adding 8GB is seriously nothing as the chip itself is really chip compared to overpriced $200 upgrade option. Beside, Apple already increased some specs without increasing the price for a lot of time so your logic already failed.

What makes you think that having 16GB will increase the price? To be fair, Apple's 16GB upgrade is overpriced which supposed to be the basic price. $200 is clearly a joke. Beside, Apple already increased some specs without increasing the price for a lot of time so your logic already failed. MBA with 16GB for $1099 is more ideal than 8GB for $1099.

Well, I've been playing it all day since launch on my 2019 iMac with an i7 so I'm not sure where the minumum M1 came in. I do have a MBP M1 and haven't tried it on that but it seems to work fine on this box. Absolutely great game btw

I know but Apple did nothing to help. They didn't even bother working with Valve, which is why Steam looks like an Intel application. When I looked at the latest Steam hardware survey, it reported my M1 MacBook Air as something similar to my mid-2012 MacBook Pro with 1440x900 resolution.
Yes, studios need to work at it, but Apple can help them do that. Apple tend to chase away their customers' happiness in search of their own happiness.
It runs well. Depending on the frame rate you're wanting to target you may need to run FSR.
I prefer to buy things from the Mac (and tvOS/iPad OS/iOS) app stores for convenience. I do not need to update my information on multiple stores, and do not need to keep track of subscriptions in multiple places.
You do not like using the Mac App Store, do not use it. There are many who like and prefer it.
Thanks for the reply. It's an 16" m2 max MBP with 64GB RAM. Anecdotally I've never really played many games or have a console for that matter. The graphics on this really drew me in for some reason.
I Have a Xbox Series X, you can skip Starfield.
I think you may be the only person I've ever seen who would claim the Apple App store is a better place for computer games than Steam.
