IMO 8 GB is not a joke; Mac OS makes it work for undemanding usages. But I certainly agree it would be helpful if RAM upgrading cost less.

Apple's baked-on-chip UMA RAM is hella more complex than basic RAM would be, so we really do not know what it costs Apple to add RAM.
It is absolutely NOT $200 and to defend Apple on this particular topic is rather hilarious. This is obviously money-grabbing for them that has been going on for a long time now, made worse (planned) by their now non-upgradeable MacBooks.

Don't be fooled by Apple. Adding a single and cheap chip is nothing. Adding $200 for 16GB is already a joke. Why do you keep defend it?

Then don't buy it. Pretty simple really. The 16GB model (or 32GB, etc) is either worth the price to you or it's not - I don't understand why people get so butthurt over the issue.
Bingo, someone actually gets it. We have people debating 8GB vs 16GB. The bottom line is whether moving up from 8GB is worth it to you. I decided NO and bought the base M2 mini. I am very happy with my choice and it works for me. If someone feels that 16GB has the better value then buy that instead.

I've been on 32GB RAM for over 11 years. It will make any Mac useable for possibly 15 years.

I think for the next 10-15 year use you'd need at least 32GB or better yet 64GB.

My guess is Apple noticed this hence making RAM that expensive to induce everyone to replace every 4 years.

where’s the iPad port?
At the bottom of the device, you’re welcome.

But seriously, they have performance problems with different platforms, that’s why the PS5 came a month later than PC and mac almost month later than PS5. Also, the mac version has a minimum requirement of M1 for low/middle details and a recommended of M1 Pro. Maybe the iPad is not up to the task. At least, not until it is heavily optimized. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think porting BG3 to iPad is a priority for Larian at this moment.

I don’t think every Mac needs to be spec’d out for gaming, but when you consider that 8gb is LESS than 2 DVDs from 1998… maybe we need to up our expectations of RAM.
A single layer dvd is 4,7gb. 2 dvd are 9,4gb. But even if it was 7,9gb i cant get this comparison. 2 blurays are less than 1tb, and 2 cd are more than 100mb. Then? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

When they upload it to the real App Store, I’ll watch some reviews and consider purchasing it.
Enjoy the waiting times for the real app store staff to green light updates of the game in the real App Store, then. You’ll be getting them two weeks later, or more, than everybody else.

I've been playing RPGs since Final Fantasy 1 on NES, and 45 minutes into this game I requested a Steam refund because it's one of the most trash games I've ever played.

To each their own.

PS: I was playing on a MacBook Pro 16" w/ M1 Pro. The performance was fine, I just found the graphics and gameplay to be trash an hour in.
The vast majority of gamers would disagree with your view. To each their own indeed. There will always be haters.

There have been glitches like the hdr thing on PS5, so it’s not impossible for the mac version tu suffer similar issues.

I get what you are saying. However, I haven't experienced any glitches on my PS5. I'm talking about the game being played and running as it was intended, be it on PC, Mac (now), or Console. I'm don't care what it's like to play BG3 on some trash PC or a low end Mac with crappy specs. And my point stands. Look at the reviews anywhere you'd like regarding this game. They are impeccable.

The level to which Apple stans will delve to defend the company from obvious money-grabbing greed is rather astounding, but a strong testament to the influence that Jobs still has over some of their base.

Timmy is ridin' the waves.

I'd vote with my wallet if there was an alternative acceptable to me, but unfortunately there's not.

How any of this is relevant to BG3 though, I don't know.

Some of us are upset about this because we believe that (A) Apple is misleading people by selling an otherwise fantastic and relatively expensive computer in 2023 that has significant flaw and (B) charging those of us who recognize the flaw $200 to fix it when we know that the fix is costing Apple less than $20.

Has anyone tried BG3 on an M2 Pro?
I have a Mac mini M2 Pro with 32GB of RAM. I have been playing the GOG released of BG3 has a single player and it runs beautifully. I am not interested in Group/network play so I don’t know about multiplayer performance

I still don’t know about any differences between the GOG and Steam releases except that the cost the same and the requirements are similar (identical?).

However, by that time I will be on another base model Mini that will blow the doors off my current M2 mini. I quit playing Apple's up sell game a long time ago.

Upgrades are where Apple makes its margins. Dell charges $40 to go from 8 to 16GB so they aren’t making much more margin on the higher configurations.
