Man, that would bum a few people out :p

:apple: The price scale is probably going to look something like this:
$149 - nano 4 GB
$199 - nano 8 GB
$249 - classic 80 GB (if it's still around)
$299 - nano 16 GB, touch 16 GB
$349 - classic 160 GB
$399 - touch 32 GB
$449 - classic 250 GB (limited production I would say)
$499 - touch 64 GB

So you are saying the prices and memory remain the same aside from the touch... so Jobs comes out on stage and announces the nano changing shape, but prices and sizes are the same?

.... SQUEE!! NOW I HAVE TO BUY!!!

-_-;

If Apple is trying to make money they want to open consumers to App purchases, and make non-App iPods lower end. I suspect the nano is going to stagnate at 4 & 8GB but will be $99 and $149. Touch begins $199 with 8GB, and the classic goes Touch as well, possibly same prices and sizes, maybe more expensive.

I saw this really cheap toy for sale on the television where, when you swing it like an air guitar, it plays along with the song. It only came with two songs though; Smoke on the Water and something else. Maybe the Ipods will now be designed to do the same thing. Apple can branch out and support the air guitar finals. Who knows? The ceiling of possibilities are endless!

Seriously though, a whole event dedicated to an updated Ipod nano and Itunes? Or announcing a software update that finally makes my phone act like how it should of from day one a year and a half ago? WOOHOO! Bring it on!

That just seems really wasteful to me.

They would wow my socks off if they changed the price points on their computer products. I do not mind paying a premium but when its paying a high premium on old technology or inferior then it is like paying a hooker to purposely kick me in the testicles.

Just waiting patiently for the mac mini to be updated. Poor poor fella.... :(

Most likely scenario in my eyes:

Ok so thats weird
tell me how the nano 16gb and the touch 16gb would have the same price

you're absolutely right
APPLE BRING ON THE LAPTOPS:D

Last year it took a few days for some stores to get them and some stores did have iPods in stock the day of the event.

The iPod Touches were not available till several weeks after.

Really?

I'll have a coronary if I have to wait for so long!

Oh well, atleast I'll know what to expect. Just unveil it already and tell us what the new IPods are like!!

- We've heard a few more reports of Apple telling reporters that this event will be a "big deal" and urging them to come. While it's hard to read too much into this sort of hype, it does not appear to be typical practice for Apple.
So the event will be bigger than the average September iPod event? Right now rumors point to a "regular" set of updates. So I'm thinking there could be a currently secret product that is very significant. I'm also thinking that this secret product could be related to the secret/hidden features in iPhone firmware 2.1.

Mini-tablet or tablet? Big iPod price drops? Completely redesigned and revamped iTunes 8?

- DaringFireball suggests that there will be iPhone news at the event.
I'm assuming that's something other than iPhone firmware 2.1?

32GB IPhone 3G

One thing that I'm kinda expecting is a 32GB iPhone 3G. Toshiba recently announce a 32GB flash chip that is supposedly pin for pin compatible with the older chip in the family. If this is the same series as what is currently in the iPhone then it would de a no brianer upgrade.

If some of the rumored apps come to 2.1 that extra storage space could be very useful. Here I'm talking about some sort of disk mode and an IPhone browser to manage random data.

Many might think it is to early for a new or upgraded 3G but frankly I think Apple would have preffered 32GB at launch, I know that would have been my choice! More so it primes the Christmas shopping season with something new and shinny.

I think the Apple becoming a music label idea is the best idea so far.

But... I think it will be bigger than that. My opinion is that after months of secret talks based on the Disney/Pixar takeover that Steve has used his newly found influence on the Disney board to secure the complete takeover By Apple of the Disney Corporation.

Ohhh and some brightly coloured ipods too!

Or maybe they'll drop the price by $200 and start giving iPhones away for free and screw over the early adopters. Again.

Technically, I could care less about the iPod updates. They do interest me. But I just want Apple to pay attention to their computer lineup more. They're gaining marketshare and their sales continue to rise, but they're neglecting their notebooks and the Mac Mini. C'mon Apple, multitask.

If true, then the Touch would be able to go to 64GB since it has two identical memory slots.

While I would love to see the iPhone go to 32GB and the Touch to 64Gb, I think that it is too early cost wise.

They won't. I think he set a price on the high end and on the low end then tried to fit a certain number of products into his table. He got to the middle and realized that the nano and touch had nowhere to go but to have the same price. We'll just have to wait for Tuesday to find out.

not EVERYONE has problems with the iPhone...

If you have 5 3G iPhone's than I would expect one of two things.

You don't upgrade iTunes and you don't upgrade to the latest firmware. Otherwise you'd be experiencing the same problems as all the other people that go to this room.

When Apple puts on their own Support Page that if you are experiencing reception problems go outside or go to a window: There is a problem with the software or At&T either way it's my phone and I want it stable and able to make/receive calls.

http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/troubleshooting/calls/#

Click the "new location" tab.

Quote: "If you don't have a strong signal or don't see a cellular data network indicator, try moving to a different location. Please note:

If you are indoors, trying going outdoors or moving closer to a window.
Check with your carrier to verify that you have wireless coverage in your area.

The advice, re. trying a different location etc. is no different to that offered by any other mobile service provider. Both my iPhones are fully updated and synch'ed to their relevant machines daily (quickly and without and problems). Also worth noting that battery life is as promised. This is also the case with everyone i know with an iPhone - I'm not saying there are not problems for some users, nor am I defending apple after the way i was royally left high and dry by MobileMe - BUT - just trying to put perspective on this, the iPhone/iPod problems which are experienced are only experienced by a very, very small percentage of usage of these devices - i'd guess no more than from any other manufacturer.

I haven't tinkered, jail broken or otherwise tried to 'improve' the device i bought - i suspect many problems are caused by people tinkering - if you tinkered with the engine of your car, you wouldn't blame the car manufacturer for the subsequent break down...

I know it's open apple bashing season, but they're no worse that any other company out there - when the products do work they are far superior to most stuff on the market - I love itunes, love my iMac and never suffer anything more serious than having to force reset my iPod once a month or so (normally after confusing the hell out of it, leaving it out in the rain or dropping it...)

I've yet to have a virus on my mac, have a mac crash on me and lose all my work or have an iPod or iPhone fail in any way - and i think this is the case with a majority of people. It doesn't negate the validity of people's anger when there are problems, but i just wanted to point out that it's an inevitable part of life, particularly with so many of these devices in circulation.

BluTooth is a big sore spot if you are a developer!

Been saying it for days now:
The new iPod Touch will be equipped with bluetooth chip
the reason being:
Apple will release a pair of stereo bluetooth headphones and the 2.1 firmware for iPhone and Touch will have A2DP enabled.

Doesn't anyone think that this is at least a remote possibility? Even the "last minute tidbits" mention the possibility that there will be iPhone news. And yesterday, people were speculating about the possibility that 2.1 will have features that Apple is hiding from beta releases.

I'd give it about a 10% chance of happening, but I haven't given up hope for stereo bluetooth.

It is not just an issue of BluTooth headphones but a complete BluTooth stack or I should say the lack of one that has developers frustrated. The lack of a complete stack and no suggestion from Apple on when it may come and in what form is very frustrating. If Apple where to add only profile support for headphones I actually think that would piss a lot of people off, developers and users alike.

Now don't get me wrong A2DP should be a requirement for any decent MP3 player. The problem is that the Touch based devices are much more than that, in effect being micro computers. As such they could run a wide array of user apps if the right I/O was supported.

Pricing

They would need to reprice the 4gb nano to under $100 for this "event" to be worth anything to nano owners, especially since flash is so cheap. 8gb at $150 and 16gb at $199. We can only hope.

Is it just me, or is the "let's rock" slogan biased? It suggests that all iPod owners listen to music that you can "rock" to. I'm sorry, but I listen only to classical music on my iPod. I feel the ad discriminates against me. :p

Hearing there will be big news suggests more planned than just the rumored updates, price changes, and itunes 8. Doubt Jobs would use an iTunes/iPod event to announce major changes at Apple. A Beatles announcement would be good but an Apple music label or a CD/DRM free music distribution deal, like acquiring CD Baby or something, sounds like a headache. Historically, Apple hasn't done well head-to-head. They change the game by innovating.

Apple have driven demand for digitally downloaded music by making hugely successful digital music players. But video iPods and the Apple TV haven't done the same for video. That's why my guess is an Apple Television or home theater system. If that's what you will use for video, like the iPod for music, then Apple can drive demand for digitally distributed video on demand.

Here's hoping for something big on Tuesday no matter what.

I'm surprised no one has said this yet:

PowerBook G5.

(maybe they did though, I didn't go through every single post in this thread).

I got it - iPod Suppository!

Yes this would be the ultimate integration eliminating the need for pockets and keeping your core warm in winter. In order to make everybody happy Apple will use a Teflon coated Aluminum "case". The aluminum to make all the whinners happy and the Teflon for uhm easy maintenance.

This should be a huge hit with the pockets free crowd and woman wanting to eliminate unsightly bulges. It would also come handy for those with no other options such as the nudie beach crowd. For the lonely woman crowd option for rapid mechanical action can be had.

This model will also be FULLY BluTooth enabled. This to eliminate the white strip in your tan that would result from a headset cord laying on your back. The only protruding cord would be for removal and of suitable short length. This short cord would make use of a MagSafe connector to eliminate the chance that rude people would do a yank and run on your iPod Suppository. The MagSafe connector would also eliminate Volley Ball accidents.

Notably this model will be operationally similar to a Shuffle as it would be hard to read the screen. The iPod Suppository will have a pressure sensitive housing requiring a slight squeeze to skip a track. An excelerometer would be used to determine the users orientation and would switch tracks to Bolero or the users favorite "mode music" if the user is horizontal.

The prediction for sales is that there will be a run on iPod Suppository on the West Coast. ;)

Agreed. I am not making any guess, especially the uneducated ones claiming or hoping for MacBook Pros and redesigned MacBooks. I am just going to sit back and watch... may even wait until the 10th to see what happened.

I understand how people want new laptops, new this, new that, etc., but it's important they know there is a time for everything.

It will all eventually come - touch screen Mac, redesigned MacBook Pro, etc. It's all about time. though. We will probably see a new MacBook Pro by the end of 2008. The touch screen Mac will probably come before the end of 2009. (these are speculations only...).

And yes, re the MacBook Air, people were literally expecting a MacBook Pro with the form factor of the MacBook Air and at a MacBook-like-price-point. Not gonna happen yet, people! Maybe some day, but not in 2008.

I have 2 questions:

1) Will iPod touch safari be any snappier after tomorrow?
2) Will it blend, whatever it is?

There will be no new Laptops at this event. The redesigned Macbooks and Macbook Pro's will come at MacWorld.

I see the end of the classic and the start of higher capacity iPod Touchs. In Apples quarterly results they said that profits would be down next quarter. I take this to mean that they will take the hit and sell higher capacity iPT at a loss. And try and make some money back long term on possible subscription models and from the App Store.
