My Prediction (Not based on fact just hopes)

I predict that they will announce that they will now allow free downloads to netflix and blockbuster with a subscription (They will also offer this to work seamlessly with a newly released Apple TV box. (Similar to the ROKU device).

iPhone Nano is a good possibility and I'm still pulling for a video optimized iPod.

the idea of iPhone Nano should be high on everybodies list. Especially considering the way the supposed leaked shots have the Nano much longer. That would be needed for hand held cell operation. The other thing is this phone might not be AT&T exclusive.

As to the video iPod/Newton2/Name of your choice, this item could be huge for Apple. Imagine an HD screen device slightly bigger overall than the classic. Most of that being length to accommodate the changed aspect ratio. The larger device should easily provide space for four flash devices. This would produce an 128 GB device with single chip devices. If Apple where to make use of some sort of stacked dual chip devices we could see 256GB of storage. Outfit the device with the latest from PA Semi and 256 Megs of RAM and you have that device that Apple hinted that nobody would be able to compete against.

In a nut shell Apple has created some pretty high expectations so they better be in a position to back it up. That means a combination of cheaper old tech and really innovative new devices.

what can we expect?? we are thrilled!!

Well when we watch the keynote (a day or so after as it always crashes due to unprecedented high demand a bit like o2 on launch day) and lots of woooh and we are thrilled with the results of iphone 3g, thrilled with sales of mobile me blah blah from el jobso) what are we gonna be getting apart from big credit card statements as we will want everything our master sales assistant steve demo's?

ipod tall nano (pretty much as we all have seen) but I reckon this event will be pretty special. I think apple has allowed and alledgedly maybe leaked the nano photos so we can be debating this till Tuesday and keep us off the scent of what the big news will be.

Beatles back catalogue on Itunes to coinide with the media event in London though wonder whether it should be set in Liverpool!

2.1 iphone/Ipod Touch software update with the added bonus of copy and paste which the crackberry has had for years. gps app by tomtom with CEO of tomtom on stage to say how thrilled he is to be working with Steve and Apple!

A tablet of some description with wifi but not 3g as steve might revert back to Jan '07 and say 3g coverage is poor and it drains the battery life.

A thinner ipod classic and iphone design for the ipod touch and a product Beatles Ipod classic to mark the beatles on Itunes and reignite sales of the classic.

The shuffle to get a colour refresh and increrase in capcity to coincide with the nano colours and keeping it all streamlined.

Possibly an iphone nano to get sales even higher for xmas but I doubt it. O2 in the UK have announced pay as you go on the current 3g iphone and cant see them seeling an iphone nano quite yet.

Price cuts accross the board which is why they announced that this quarters GM will be lower as they are going for market share and need to be more competitive in this credit crunch.

Anyway thats my predictions and if I sound negative about Apple im not. They are more superior on the tech scene than any competitor despite the probs with the latest iphone software and mobile me.

Anyone agree with my assessment?

Wouldnt This Be Awesome!!!

Over The Air Itunes Sync???

Like, You No Longer Have To Plug In Your Iphone Or Ipod Touch To Your Comp. To Sync. =]

This Will Be Really Useful For Podcast And Stuff.

Expecially With Apps That Allows You To Control Your Pc, You Can Now Download Stuff And Put In Itunes Or Whatever.. And Then Whalah!! Its In Your Iphone =]

Can someone tell me if MacRumors will do a spoiler-free video deal that they usually do. I want to come home and watch the event without any idea what will be launched.

yeah! Are macrumors doing that this year?? It seems that no one caring about the stream. Everybody wants to watch it "live" on the net. And see the beautiful text and pictures. I want to see the stream without seeing the news on the net first. Its more surpricing when i see the keynote.

Facebook like presense for iTunes?

Just a guess. That would be pretty big. It would use all their dev experience, mix in well with their existing going-on-line approach and because it would be something internal, they could keep it a secret. iTunes has always been kinda behind in my opinion... now could be a time the ramp it up and mix it in with the MobileMe experience.

I would imaging music, games, data, email, friends, etc.

Any takers on this guess? Comments?

Tuesday June 9th was when MobileMe was announced.

June 9th was a Monday. ;)

The "Tuesday 9" has been part of the MobileMe logo from the beginning, so I'd say it's a coincidence.

As for this event, I'll be happy with a 64 GB iPod touch and either one of:
  • Price drop - don't just replace the $500 32 GB, but cheaper ($400 or less)
  • GPS with preloaded maps and turn-by-turn navigation

Will this happen? Highly doubtful.

After having spent so much time and effort to enter into exclusive contracts with most countries, I just don't see Apple releasing a new phone - especially one in a smaller form-factor - that would be with a competing carrier in a market.

i bet you we see a 32GB iPhone -- 8GB will be no more.

The 32GB single flash modules are very expensive. Considering the subsidized price of the current iPhone, Apple could offer it for say $399 or even $499 in the US (subsidized), but that is a huge price premium for only double the storage.

"big deal" + "Let's Rock" + Itunes 8 = All Beatles albums now finally available on Itunes. Guest appearance of Paul and Ringo at the announcement?

Well, that's my guess. Or else "big deal" may be exactly that - something large(r) in size with an attractive price tag, like a 10" Itouchtablet subcompactcomputerthingy for a-buck-three-eighty.

Even better would be Beatles AND AC/DC it would be a perfect fit with AC/DC's new album coming out in October.

While I'm looking forward to whatever is announced, I'm really anticipating the day when the new MPB's are FINALLY brought out. I'd love if it were at this event, but I'm not holding my breath.

You won't see an apple phone product on another american phone network until they all stop using archaic and proprietary phone technologies. End of story.

Re: Apple as a record label

Could this work like the Appstore? You send your digital tracks/albums and Apple keep 30% when they sell. It would completely change how artists can record - though it might make it too easy for crap music to be released. :p Also, it would somehow have to have guidelines so that bands use professional recording equipment.

1) Will iPod touch safari be any snappier after tomorrow?
2) Will it blend, whatever it is?

Your statements leads me to my more than likely predictions.

- Apple will announce enhancements to iTunes that makes it more of a hub for digital content. I'd be happy for years with just NO MORE DRM music and nothing else, but maybe they will throw in...

- iTunes subscriptions tied to Mobile Me accounts or separate with live feeding over 3G/Edge/WiFi. I doubt it, but it's more likely than the weirdos expecting a Touch iPod Classic with the yet created 250GB 1.8" HDD. Or the crackheads that think the Classic will be replaced by a HDD toting Touch.

- Maybe an iTunes 8 redesign and more interactive store with more content. I feel it could use an update since we are using iTunes even more now with the iPhone and movie rentals. Give us more movies and give us more TV shows to download or rent.

- Lastly, a bunch of pissed off Apple fanboys that can't get their act together. The ones that need to calm down and stop speculating with only 1% of the facts. There isn't any new hardware, so don't expect new iPods, especially since the BTS deal is still going until the 15th. **STOP saying the Classic will disappear just because you don't have one, the Touch isn't all that.**

More fans will be upset by the lack of new sizes, they will come, but not yet. If they do, expect to pay MORE, not less. Apple hasn't changed their prices in quite some time, and when they did, they just gave us the student discount that everyone was mooching off of anyways.

Oh yeah, maybe a fat ugly iPod gets released that doesn't add to the functionality, it's just f**king fugly.

My prediction for the event on September 9:

The fanboys will get their expectations so high that even if Apple announced an end to all war, a cure for every disease, and peace, love, and happiness forever for everyone, they will be disappointed.

Let's ratchet things down a bit and enjoy what comes.

One more thing: iPhone Nano!

... and the iPhone will be available in 70 MORE countries before the end of this year:p

You iphone nano people are KIDDING yourselves - this rumour needs to stop, now.
They JUST released the 3g iphone, you think they'd release an iphone nano now? You'd be WAY off target.
Maybe in 6 or 9 months - (I personally doubt it) but now - I'd put money down they wouldn't do it.

Ho-hum

Oh well, the pundits must have been right. Apple has over-stayed its welcome and now is just another big boy the public can hate on. It is a sad day that Apple has to unveil a building sized banner four days in advance to get people to pay attention. It is doubly sad that Apple minions have to hit the street and tell the news that there will be some big news at the event. Man, I hope it's not another pair of sox or boom-box/Hi-Fi. Time to find another Silicon Valley garage start-up to champion if this is a flop—and that would be anything short of introducing something totally new and unexpected that everyone will have to run out and buy immediately (sorry Steve, no announcing hardware that is still a year out—that just doesn't cut it anymore).

That is available now, but you get charged to put your music up I'm pretty sure. My friend made songs at his house for fun and put them up on iTunes store. He has made about $70 so far but he said hes gonna use the money to put his songs up on the store for 2009

Wow

No wonder people here get disapointed, good god this is my first time on the macrumours forums during a product refresh but I mean jesus people keep a grain of salt with you huh? What next the flying ipod? The solar powered ipod?
The 1.5TB flash based touch the size of a nano with 100 year battery life?
Please.

'likely'
lol

iMac touch?

It hasn't been rumored or speculated. Everything else has. In the original post it says that the "something 'big'" might not be something previously rumored. An iMac with touch capabilities is basically the only product that hasn't been speculated. A Macbook touch, tablet, new aluminum Macbooks and Pros, new iPods...all of that has been previously rumored. I think a product like an iMac touch would be HUGE and very unexpected. Either that or some kind of gaming system.

Well...whatever it is it will be "big". And I think by "big" they mean...bigger than iPods, bigger than The Beatles, bigger than DRM free music...bigger than all of that. I think that this announcement will be a "big deal".
