ugggh....I've heard just about enough from mr iPhone for one year thankyou

In my Honest opinion, it will be a "media" focus event. And some surprise have already been announced and almost confirmed...

So we can easily see:

1) New iPods: new ipod nano, new ipod touch. The iPod nano would exist in several number of colors (orange, black, white, pink, blue, green, purple, etc...). The iPod Touch would receive the iPhone 3G shape, with new firmware and maybe also the HD from the Classic... Which would have more sense to have larger size for a device you can watch movie with the large touchscreen display.

2) New iPhone / iPod Touch Firmware: New version with finally some fix bug, finally a real push (and background push), some GPS turn-y-turn and copy/paste, with some fixbugs and maybe some tiny change such MMS, delete an unique SMS in history, and maybe the "streaming audio from your iTunes" such the Simplify Media stuff and a new Apple Apps to read eBook and PDFs.

3) New iTunes 8.0: The genius list stuff with new visual effect... and maybe the integrated streaming server over network/internet.

4) New in iTunes Store: The complete song from the beatles, more content in HD (TV Shows), a special category to buy eBook, magazine, fanzine and newspaper.

Wild cards (I don't believe too much for this time):

1) Small Portable device: We can perhaps have a preview of the specific portable device for the "Book & Game" (such of iTablet, iPad, MID, etc...).

2) Enhanced version of AppleTV: We could maybe have a preview of a kind of AppleTV Pro which include also a DVR function and "streaming" function (à la Netflix / TiVO).

Unfortunately, all the computer news (new MacBook, MacBook Pro, Cinema Display, iMac, Mac Pro, Mac Mini) will be announced later during another event...

Here is my opinion on the strategy:

iPods and iPhones are really the way for Apple to have interest from non-Apple fanboys. It's the interest of Apple to be really focus and pushing really hard to have the best product to attract more people... It's a marketing Trojan Horse...

When more people will be interested about the Apple products, mostly with the interest for small/affordable large public devices, then they will release some new "sexy" product(s)... such netbook, portable tablet device, cheaper laptop/desktop, etc...

Then, a lot of people will "get it" and will be even more ready to "switch" to Mac and then consider an iMac/Mac Pro/MacBook/MBP/Mac Mini for their own and main use.

Let's see how far from the final goal we will be at this "Let's Rock" event :)

my 2 cents,

Spid

Oh... I forgot:

He will also precise the high success of the iPhone sales, iTunes App Store...

But also precise the poor success for the MobileMe debut and will present apologize and explain what was wrong and what they did and they will do to have the best platform...

We could expect some new version of iLife and iWork... but I'm sure it will be during the "Computer" event....

They would wow my socks off if they changed the price points on their computer products. I do not mind paying a premium but when its paying a high premium on old technology or inferior then it is like paying a hooker to purposely kick me in the testicles.

Just waiting patiently for the mac mini to be updated. Poor poor fella.... :(

LMAO Best quote ever!

all i wish for is a new interface for the iPods and lower prices on the iPod Classic with a little more hard drive space. I want the iPod Classic to outshine the Nano again. I'm a classic fan but it appears as if the Nano gets way more attention because of it being sold more...

that's all i ask...
Yeah, but you're kinda "asking for the moon" here in that what you are asking for is what only a tiny tiny percentage of iPod customers want.

The Classic is already on the way out. That's why they renamed it the Classic, because it's the "old-style" device. It may get capacity bumps, it may change price, but it's design will be mostly the same and it will fade into history etc.

Also since the interface for iPods has always been the same except for the one time very recently when it was updated, it's likely that it won't be updated again. That's the "classic" interface. The only new interfaces are going to be on the iPod touch's.

iPhone Nano

We may actually see an iPhone Nano as well as iPod Nanos. A $100 iPhone with contacts, calendar, calculator, MMS, camera, & iPod (no email or Safari), and compatible with the games in the App store would be a huge hit for Apple & At&t for the Holidays. (Of course this would mean MMS in 2.1 for the iPhone as well.) Such a device may even have a slide out key board as well as touch features.

There will be no new Laptops at this event. The redesigned Macbooks and Macbook Pro's will come at MacWorld.

Four months after every other laptop maker has shipped the latest Centrino 2 models for half the the price of last generation Macbooks and Macbook Pros ? Amazing.

Will Apple provide a keynote link later in the day? And will MacRumors be emailing it's mailing list with the URL for it?

i agree with everything but the UI. Apple is well aware of the fact that people can fall in love with a device simply because of its UI. Also, ive seen several mockups with a touch-esque UI and boy did it look tasty. Reskinning isnt really that hard so i can see the POTENTIAL for apple to do it. Im not really counting on it tho

i couldnt be bothered reading all these comments so dont attack me if this question has been asked before.
will there be any way of me watching this event live, if its being filmed. i hated the keynote speach for the iphone because when i woke up in the morning to watch it apple's site was plastered with "introducing iPhone" ruining it for me, so i am hoping this time ill be able to read or watch it as its happening instead of finding out the bad way. Anyone wanna answer this?

I wanna mirror this question. Anybody know how we can watch the keynote without running into any spoilers trying to find it?

On Tuesday.

Agh, I hate all of this "They're gonna get rid of the Classic" talk. The Classic is perfect for carrying large libraries of media, not just 160 Gigs of music, obviously. Wireless technology isn't widespread or fast enough to fill in for on board storage, especially when we're talking HD content.

And the click wheel is fine. I like having a Classic in my car hooked up directly to my sound system. I don't need a fancy touch screen when a click wheel is far easier to navigate with while driving.

There's specific use for each iPod. The Touch is a great alternative for the Classic, but it certainly can't fully replace it just yet.

It's Obvious

If this is really going to be huge then it is obviously going to be a second generation iPod Hi-Fi speaker system!

You know a speaker system so good that audiophiles will throw their carver amps and martin logan speakers out in the trash.

Possibly even in TWO colors. Can you imagine White and then a Silver?

the big thing

is the integration of advertising into the video content available through itunes and apple tv. You can still choose to buy it if you wish (in hd) or you can watch standard def for free in exchange for sitting through 30 secs of advertising 2-3 times an episode. Possibly even a model like this for movie rentals. New releases in hd are now 3.99 or 2.99 with three thirty second brakes for previews/ads. Standard def new release rentals are now 1.99 or .99 with ads. Catalog titles are now free with ads. This directly competes with the netflix device/service. Further, I think studios would be happier getting 1:30 of consumer attention for a catalog release than whatever measly amount comes back after royalties to actors, etc. They really need to do something to push video content and make appletv a real competitor to cable/netflix.

Spoiler-free

Can someone tell me if MacRumors will do a spoiler-free video deal that they usually do. I want to come home and watch the event without any idea what will be launched.

What is likely "soon".

The announced rumors of a taller iPod Nano with video and I say likely some game application downloads is near certain.

An updated version of iTunes and iPod Touch (iPhone) software and firmware is near certain as well.

More countries for iTunes music store which does not get much attention, but is critical to world domination.

Some possibilities. A phone application on the Nano. That would cover the rumors of a smaller "iPhone".

I for one am looking forward to an iPhone device slightly larger than the iPhone for more use of visual information. I am in no way clear that is likely since so many apps seem to assume a fixed display size.

Rocketman

not true

the updated nanos, touches, etc. are small news and apple has let the pics circulate without undertaking any action. ...
Actually, the only thing that (might) have been credibly leaked are those pics of the nano.

To date there is no leak on what the iPod touch refresh will look like other than that one (faked) wireframe drawing. There has been no leak on the "secret" aspects of iPhone 2.1 OS and no leaks or rumors of any kind on the whole iPad/iSlate/iBook thing.

There's a lot of well informed speculation, but no actual leaks. Also there has been so much ill-informed speculation that you can't be sure of anything anyway.

iPhone App Organization tool

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but it would be nice if iTunes allowed one to move the apps installed on the iPhone. Organizing them within the iPhone is nice but it would be much faster on my mac.

wild theory?

Well no one's said it yet that I can see, so how about this possibility...

If we assume that the tablet thingie is going to be released, one of the coolest sectors of multi-touch apps is music creation.

With a larger form factor, you can not only type better, you can play a virtual piano and drums better. ;) There was also a really cool demo earlier this year of a multi-touch turntable and mixing board for DJ's.

What better way to introduce a product like that than to have a bunch of musicians on stage using the new iBook/iPad thingie to make some tunes?

Although it's pretty obvious that there's new iPods coming, I can confirm this.
The Staples that I work at was told to pull the current iPod lineup from our shelves (nano, classic and touch).

hey guys i was just at target and noticed two things..
1. had No iPod nanos so that adds to the fact the iPod will be updated along with they only had one classic.. so

and 2.
the gift cards for iTunes have the same picture as the banner.. and i did notice a taller iPod in his hands.. or maybe its an iPod touch?

I agree! I remember looking at this ages ago and craving slightly:
http://www.cycling74.com/products/lemur
but an apple tablet, if it was high spec, would be sweeeeet.

There's that phone advert (I can't think what phone it is, I didn't take notice) on TV, no idea if it's still on, where some guy makes music with a phone by ringing people and sampling their sounds (like someone practising boxing, diving, etc, i cant really remember) and stuff. It almost works really well, its definitely a good idea but isn't too interesting and doesn't quite do it. Apple could do something like that much better. That advert would have been better with the iPhone, and they could do something amazing with a tablet or whatever they make!

curved ipod touch nooooooooooooo

the ipod touch is good as the way it is
