The thing I worry about for USB-C is the reliability of the connectors under heavy use.

Every USB-C connector that I have seen has become loose over time while the lightning connectors have remained tight.

The reliability and cost of the lightning cables is a different story but I would rather have the cable fail than the device fail.

Here is the list of states prohibiting headphones while driving.

California modified its law to also prohibit ear buds while driving unless you only use one.

Does that mean that these states prohibit hearing impaired people from Driving as well?

iPhone 12 models will feature a "refreshed" front-facing TrueDepth system

iPhone 11 (Pro) are already using an evolved FaceID system, compared to the original one used with iPhone X. On 11 series it works very well and, IMO, much better than TouchID, as I remember constantly having to clean the home button in order for my prints to be recognised on the first attempt. FaceID is also much more handy with gloves on. 👍

I am sorry but an iPhone with no port is an absolute no go for me. I have been in many situations like an airport, airplane etc where I had to charge on the go with an Anker USB bank. With a no port iPhone I would have to find a spot where I can set up a wireless charging pad. How will I charge on an airplane? I would have to hold the phone on the charging pad perfectly or else it will stop charging.

The biggest change of all could come next year, as the analysts said they see potential for Apple to remove the Lightning connector from at least one iPhone model in 2021, echoing a prediction shared by fellow analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last month.

I doubt this will happen for even one model anytime soon.

With so many cars in the past few years adding wired CarPlay, it would alienate so many iPhone users.

After two years, I would hope they figured out how to improve the FaceID module. And by improve, I mean make smaller so as to reduce or get rid of the notch completely. I don’t mind the notch now, but I also wouldn’t miss it. This seems more likely than the complete replacement of it by TouchID. If they add TouchID again, fine. Only problem I see with that is if they got better battery life partially by removing 3D Touch, what will happen with them trying to add sensors for TouchID under the screen...?

Fair enough, but iOS devices are meant to be throwaway in 2 years.

And even if that's not so, plugging in is going away soon, at least as far as Apple is concerned, so the connector would last longer this way.

iPhone 12 models will feature a "refreshed" front-facing TrueDepth system that benefits Apple supplier Lite-On Semiconductor, according to Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis, Thomas O'Malley, and Baylie Harri. This suggests that Face ID could be improved on iPhone 12 models, but no specific details were provided.

In a research note provided to MacRumors, the analysts added that the rear-facing camera system on iPhone 12 Pro models will feature 3D sensing based on a time-of-flight solution, as widely rumored. They also expect iPhone 12 Pro models to be equipped with 6GB of RAM, up from 4GB in iPhone 11 Pro models.

This could result in wired EarPods being removed from the box, they said.

Kuo has said that Apple plans to release five new iPhone models in 2020, including a lower-end "iPhone SE 2" or "iPhone 9" by the end of March and four higher-end, 5G-enabled models in the fall.

Smaller sensor housing aka notch

If they drop all ports I'm done upgrading for a few years due to my needs. Maybe down the road I'll do a SE model but for the most part Apple will lose my business. I've thought about giving Android a try as well.

People were saying the same things when Apple boldly removed the headphone jack. Fast forward a few years and now everyone has followed Apple's lead.

I'm so surprised to see so many people hating on the idea of a completely wireless iPhone LOL Did we not learn anything from the removal of the CD drive from laptops? (that seemed so absurd at the time) audio jack from iPhone 7? (also ridiculized) We'll be just fine, if not better, without all the cables. Let Apple push us forward, thanks!

Apple will use this as security excuse to avoid force any iPhone unlock device such a Grayshift.

The worst, if all wireless route going true, other device (Android) will eventually follow it.

Also, sometimes bad things happen and the only was to fix it only by restoring through DFU mode. How to DFU in wireless mode is totally mystery.

Will it come with the Bluetooth enabled charging pad or will that be a $129.99 required accessory at the time of purchase.

I don't disagree with that. Lightning definitely feels more robust and sturdy. But then iPad Pro came out of nowhere with USB-C. This creates a shock and unnecessary fragmentation within iOS ecosystem..

So now
Gotta bring USB-C cable for either iPad Pro or Macbooks.
Gotta bring Lightning cable, or wireless charging pad for my iPhone, or AirPods Pro.
Gotta bring a separate puck charger for the Apple Watch

There are 3 or 4 cables for charging various devices made by a company that pride itself in "tight control of hardware and software so that everything just works".

Apple needs to step up and make its damn mind.

Now imagine if I have Galaxy Note 10, AirPods Pro, iPad Pro and Macbook Pro? I just gotta bring a single USB-C cable along with a 65 watt charger, and I could travel anywhere without worries. How about the AirPods? Remember that Note 10 supports wireless power sharing, so it's all good. That's the irony.

No Lightning or USB-C. No wired charging or I/O. Completely wireless.

This would be one of the only things to make me jump ship as using your phone while charging is very important. Am I supposed to pick up the wireless pad and hold it to my head if I get a call? Unless there’s some other solution that doesn’t make sense.

Just gotta say that I enjoy all these rumors for the phones 1,2,3+ years from now because I can't keep track of anything and the iPhone event actually has some surprise to it again!

If they want to remove Lighting and skip USB-C I hope they'll at least consider the smart connector currently found on iPads. It can charge accessories and transfer data, so in theory could charge the iPhone and transfer data to it, but the advantage is that you can save some internal space by adopting it and it offers a better seal as there is no hole.
I'd rather have that instead of just Qi charging
It has amazed me how under utilized the smart connector is. Moving it on the 2018 iPP was a terrible move though.

Wouldn't the phone this year be the iPhone 11S? unless they are finally going to break that pattern

That would seriously **** up people who have expensive cars with wired-only CarPlay.

Maybe they sell a wired box that plugs into the car so you can still be wireless without upgrading the car. I think that would be an ok solution to it. But I would probably buy the last model with a port at that point anyhow.

Geez, there's a lot of emotion flowing in this "rumour" thread.

Remember, people you always have choice. Nobody forces you to buy something that doesn't work for you.
