It "could" have a smaller notch. I mean it "could" have a larger one too....

I've mostly ignored the notch. It still feels like an odd design choice. I would have preferred a straight block across the top of the screen. The notch is super weird for programs that try and use that upper area for things you have to touch. But, I still love my iphone so I'll have to put up with it until Apple makes up the next new design. lol

So will the iPhone X be called that forever now... Like OSX?

Will the iPhone 8 become 8S and then 9?

Just adding to the plethora of other useless surmising.

What I really want to know, is if Apple has fixed issues with battery life / management. Also, if / when iPhone 'X.1' has under-screen touch ID, I will be back buying iPhones. Until then Apple can keep replacing the battery in my iPhone for free - yes free... As under EU law it is a proven manufacturing fault (Apple have admitted to) and so the repair / replacement is free up to 6 years from original purchase.

Smaller notch will enable revolutionary features like seeing the battery percent in the status bar.

Remember how that wasn't available on the original iPhone or the iPhone 3G?

As far as the haters are concerned, a smaller notch is still a notch. The notch complaints will continue to pour in. Once the haters have locked into something they don't like, they can't let it go. That's probably just human nature. If a device has 99% good stuff and 1% bad stuff, they'll only see the 1% bad stuff. It's rather amusing.

It wasn't until I saw the icon of the iPhone X that shows up on the battery widget and in iTunes, but I'm convinced the notch is here to stay. It may get a tiny bit smaller, but I personally doubt it'll go away completely for awhile. The notch is what makes the phone instantly recognizable in the same way the home button does for every other iPhone. It is the defining characteristic of the phone (even more so than the Apple logo itself) that lets others know that its an iPhone. Get rid of the home button and the notch, and no one has any idea what phone they are looking at, much the way it has mostly been among all the different Android phones all along.

Oh great. Now the fanboys will be debating whether notch size matters. Ha. Personally, I'm agnostic about the notch. I don't really notice it -- it's just part of the phone. This article doesn't really define "smaller." Unless the notch is going to be thinner I can't see how it really makes much of a difference functionally.

Second. Face ID is the latest technology, while Touch ID is a historical technology. Adaption to a new technology can be a challenge for some.

Maybe it will work out that way. Being later does not necessarily mean better, though. Electric cars were around before cars with combustion engines.

lol, Apple stopped making phones thinner so now they concocted some other feature they feel the need to shrink.

where are the mac mini and Pro rumors :(

i do not understand the notch complaints, you get a bigger screen in a smaller package than the Plus.

I have been really impressed with faceID, its faster than touchID the vast majority of the time. it works at angles and in situations where i didnt think it would. there is no way things will go backwards. getting used to no home button is a bit of a jump i will admit but it doesnt take very long at all to prefer most of the gestures.
