I’m sure European prices will go up for the base Pro, but by as great a percentage as the US price (20%)? I sure hope not.

Currently the base 16 Pro is €1229 (with tax) here versus $999 in the US (excluding tax).

A 20% increase as in the US would take us to €1475. Can’t see that happening. €1299 seems reasonable.

It sounds reasonable, but, AFAICR, I can't think of a time when price increases in US prices didn't lead to an equivalent price increase in the EU.

Apple have a very strange currency conversation rate that really doesn't reflect actual exchange rates, and is always skewed in favor of the US market.

I'd guess there won't be a 20% price increase in the US, it will be a little less, and the comparative increase in other markets will subsidize the US market. Apple will spread price increases out worldwide as much as possible.

16 Pro 256GB is 1349€ here, I’d expect to be at least the the same but not less. Remember they are getting rid of the 128GB model per currrent rumours.

With the larger pricing steps between models it will be interesting to see what happens at the low end. Will the iPhone 16 remain at $699 as has been the case before with previous base models or will Apple just get rid of it and leave a $200 gap from the iPhone 16e to the iPhone 17 and then a $300 gap up to the iPhone 17 Air?

I am on IUP and have upgraded my PM every year since the 13. I was going to step down to the Pro this year for easier one handed use. I was looking forward to lowering my payment and used it to justify the upgrade to my wife, who is tired of me upgrading every Sept. Now if the lack of rumored new features is true and the $200 price increase rumor is true, I may just forgo the 17. It doesn’t feel worth it for incremental changes. I could have stomached $100, but $200 is steep.

Very good point.

So we can bet it will be more than my hopeful €1299.

Damn.

Increasingly likely that I’ll get the regular iPhone 17 despite wanting to try a telephoto lens.

Remember when analysts said the original iPad would be $999 but it ended up being $499? 🤷‍♂️
I do remember. But that was them throwing darts at a dartboard, guessing what Apple might introduce and for how much. With the iPhone, we not have more than 16 years worth of data points through which to draw a line.

LOL. Those analysts either just make up things or they get played by Apple to publish a high price so that everyone is happy if it's "only 1099".

In any case if this were true i would hang on to my iPhone 13 for another year and just have the battery replaced.

Who benefits most from this rumor being published?

Apple, if they are planning to increase the price by $100.

Getting a rumor out there that they will increase the price by $200 will make the $100 seem like a bargain, or even better that we dodged a bullet.

Not saying Apple planted the rumor, but it sure works in their favor by setting expectations

Apple will maintain its entry-level pricing for the standard iPhone 17 this year, but the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are set to get price hikes, albeit with a minimum storage boost for the iPhone 17 Pro model, according to TrendForce.

iPhone-17-Pro-Iridescent-Feature-2.jpg

The market research company expects the regular iPhone 17 model to have the same $799 starting price and 128GB base storage as last year's iPhone 16, while both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will come with 256GB base storage options and increases of $50-$100 per comparable capacity. The full iPhone 17 lineup pricing could break down like so:
Model128GB256GB512GB1TB
iPhone 17$799$899$1,099
iPhone 17 Air$1,099$1,299$1,499
iPhone 17 Pro$1,199$1,399$1,599
iPhone 17 Pro Max$1,299$1,499$1,699
According to TrendForce's figures, starting at $1,199, the cheapest iPhone 17 Pro will be $200 more than the cheapest iPhone 16 Pro, but with 256GB instead of 128GB. Customers who want a 512GB or 1TB Pro model will also have to pay $100 more than the comparable capacity last year. Meanwhile, a maxed-out 1TB iPhone 17 Pro Max will cost $1,699, up from $1,599.

Currently, the iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999 with 128GB storage, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max already begins at 256GB for $1,199. Both Pro models are also offered with a maximum 1TB of storage. The iPhone 16 Plus – which the all-new ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air replaces – starts at $899 with 128GB storage.

Before the launch of the iPhone 15 series in 2023, there were rumors that the iPhone 15 Pro Max would drop the 128GB tier and start at $1,199, up from $1,099 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The rumor proved accurate, although Apple eliminated the lower storage option, effectively raising the entry price. Apple appears to be following a similar strategy for the iPhone 17 Air and Pro models, but with a more significant price hike for customers looking for the cheapest Pro model.

Apple is expected to unveil the full iPhone 17 lineup next week on Tuesday, September 9 at its "Awe dropping" event. Both the MacRumors site and our X (Twitter) account are excellent ways to discuss the new announcements with other Apple enthusiasts as Apple unveils its new products. Later in the day and throughout the week, we'll also have much more in-depth coverage of all of Apple's announcements, so make sure to stay tuned.

BOOM just like as I predicted in my post https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...grade-to-the-iphone-17.2464435/?post=34092477

Tho I didn’t expected a 200$ price increase… yeah at this point Apple is cooked.

More fool me, commented before reading the article, so I have deleted my original post because this is all BS. It is nothing more then a pure ‘prediction’ and ‘opinion’ by some random marketing analysts. NO leaks or anything just pure personal opinion.
A worthless story really.

I just don’t see spending $1000 every year or 2 for a new phone. That’s a lot of money for a phone to begin with let alone minimal upgrades that would justify spending that kind of money.

Everyone has different views and needs of course but my iPhone use since the 3GS model has been phone calls, texts, reading emails (extremely rare to reply or compose on iPhone), weather, and pix.
