Was holding out for the 2nd gen on but couldn't pass up the Best Buy deal. I used my 10% movers coupon to get it to $900 and and paid with Discover via Apple Pay which gets me an additional 10% back.
I did a similar thing. I was planning on waiting for v2 this year, but with the Best Buy sale and associated discounts and cash back promos, I ended up paying about $840 (including tax). Depending on how v2 looks, I'll likely move to a fully loaded one later this year and either sell this one or hand it down to a family member.

Don't beat yourself up too much, crappy things can happen no matter where you buy something. I just got nearly $700 back from Verizon through a credit card dispute because I ordered a new iPad from them online and they never shipped it, nor would they return my money. It's been going on since Sept. 27, and I've spent countless hours on the phone between then and now.

The craziest thing, they didn't dispute any of it but they wouldn't fix it. They agreed that they'd never shipped it, and they agreed that I'd paid for it. Regardless, their system still showed the item as unpaid and they couldn't fix it.

Well that's called grand theft. Shoulda called the cops on them. I had a similar situation occur and they refused to give me my money. So I called the police and just before the cs agent was arrested they quickly came up with the cash. It was only 300 hundred bucks but the principle applied here. That's a felony in these parts.

and so today we found out why best but had this sale. they simply bought too many of these things.

I was thinking the same thing...did I miss an article or something?

The only thing I could think he meant was this article?

I felt Best Buy was smart for the deals they put up. It competed with Target's $100 Gift Card with every sale by taking the $100 off up front right there. It competed directly with Amazon and B&H. The margins were not high obviously, but how many bought from one of the Best Buy deals and continued walking through the store and bought other merchandise? It was like the milk and eggs placement in the grocery stores by the way.....alllll the way in the back.

What impressed me was that they kept great stock of every single item they advertised with these deals, how pissed would we all be if we walked in to get the deal and they were out of everything?

So the sales continued through January 1st which kept it smart because now they drew in the traffic of all those that got gift cards.....walked through the store and bought additional merchandise as well.

today best buy released holiday sales results, they fell a lot and disappointing sales of apple products is noted as the primary reason. their stock fell almost 10 percent.

From what I'm reading, it was weak Smart Phone sales as the primary reason which doesn't make sense if they projected so high as people have contracts and upgrades coming up all year long. Did they expect people to pay full price?

Lets face it the market is literally flooded, nor is there isn't any real compelling reasons to upgrade these days, aside status. Personally I am at point where I just use the phone until it fails or the battery dies, the additional features coming to market being generally little more than "bell & whistles"

So I bought mine end of September using the Discover car apple pay (to get the 10% cash back). At the time I got BB to price match to B&H so I walked away having spent $1199 instead of $1299. First win. Well, after seeing the $300 price drop, I still had a few days left with Discover's 90 day price protection coverage. So I submitted a claim and just found out that it was approved for the additional $200 difference. I've never been a huge fan of using my Discover card, but if anything it's a reminder to everyone to use all the benefits that come with a credit card and to always keep on eye out for a deal, even after you've made a purchase. Also keep in mind that other cards will extend your warranty...

totally agree.

computers and smartphones are already more than sufficient for all real-life demands since years.
Technological and Industry standards have already reached the end of an asymptotic function: Since years you pay a lot for merely NO REAL ADVANTAGE over "old" gear (still happy with upgraded 2011/12 MBP, MacPro 2009 and iP5, iPad 3)… buying "new" products is now nothing but just uselessly burning lots of hard-earned money….
