Is it asking to much for a team that is making over 200 Million to put some effort into it. If they can sweep a 5 game series against the Red Sox is shouldn't be that hard to ask for them to go after a bunch of rookies.

IJ Reilly said:
Maybe the rookies want it more. The $200 million is not an entitlement.

While I can understand why people around the nation do not follow the Tigers closely, to say this is a rookie team is a mistake. They have 3 key rookies, Granderson, Verlander and Zumaya, but their other starters are all veterans: Pudge(16), Ordonez(10), Casey(10), Palonco(9), Guillen(9), Monroe(6), Inge(6), Rogers(18), Robinson(5), Bonderman(4), Jones(14) and Rodney(4).

The last 3 games with NY are the type we have been watching all year, great pitching, quality fielding and timely hitting. Detroit had the best record in baseball for much of the season, then injuries and their slump came. They tried to end the season resting their top pitchers and wining the division, did'nt work out so good and suddenly they are a lucky upstart?

I feel bad for Twins fans that they did'nt play their type of baseball in the short playoffs, but very happy that the Tigers have played the way we have seen them all season. Of course NY can come out and win the next two, but at least Detroit has played well and next season looks good, which is much, much more then we have been able to say the last 8-10 years. Go get'em Tigers

2006 Record v Playoff Teams: Min 11-8, Oak 5-4, NY 2-5, Cards 3-0

I still don't think the Tigers are for real.

95 wins in a division with three 90 win teams, and they're not for real? What on earth is your definition of "for real"?

I want Arod gone I want Sheffield gone and I want Torre gone by next season.

Well Pujols & Co. wore the collar, today. Young just shut them down. Aside from Eckstein's 2-4 and Taguchi's HR, no one in the top six line up hit. 0-17 with 8 Ks between them and the whole team fanned 11 times.

Pitching......ah, I don't even want to get in to it. Spanish would fit anywhere from Suppan chupa to echar Flores.

STL still need only a win. Why am I worried?

Late News But..

Top of the 8th and the 'Tigers are up 8-1'

Goodbye *Joe* we hate to see ya go :D

Try Florida next year I hear they have a opening. And You'll get to live near 'dear George'

Im done with baseball, I refuse to waste a season only to see them choke every year. Its not worth my time or effort and unless serious changes are made I will never watch another baseball game, What a joke that a team like the Tigers can do this. I hope Steinbrenner puts his foot down and really makes some changes. This is unacceptable.

Agreed!! I'm sick & tired of the **cock-roach** that owns the New York version of the 'Bates Motel'

Mmmmmm... Have a nice meal :D

Im a fan that hates to loose. When Im promised success I want to see it. I sometimes feel that I care more about the team and the game then the players that get the big money to play it. I want a team that enjoys it and has heart and soul not a team that thinks its work and doesn't care cause they just want to get paid. Its time for the Yankees to cut payroll and get young talent that wants to win and enjoy the game while they do it.

Mets get after LA early. 3-0 after one. I'd watch a Tiger vs. STL Series. If it's the A's vs. Mets, it's on to life and other things.

I want Arod gone as well.

I want Sheff gone as well.

But Torre? Come on! If he goes, you will seriously watch that team totally fall apart- a lot of the great Yanks only want to play for Torre and no one else. Torre HAS TO stay.

I'd agree with this. But the cry baby Yank fans are a scream, really. In 11 seasons, Torre has taken them to the WS four times, ALC twice, and finished 1st place in 10/11 seasons. That's pretty impressive.

When he left STL (in six seasons best finish was 2nd, and a 3rd place finish with a .537 team) he had endeared himself to a lot of fans, but not management. We figured he, you and George deserved one another. And it turned into an expensive wedding with whatever George set for prenuptials. He's turned in some good numbers. Now, it's "what have you done for us, lately"?

Its been 6 years since a championship and with the talent of players he should of been able to get at least 2 more rings. So to say that Torre is not at fault is a bit of an understatement.

That's fair enough. But what are fans complaining about aside from the obvious W-L? Is he losing his edge? No longer handling prima donas well? Playing politics?

He sat Sheff, to everyone's disgruntlement. He moved A-rod to 8th-rod, changing lineups around to everyone's apparent disgruntlement. Is it him, his staff or the player personnel that needs scrutiny?

As a non-NYY fan, I admit to prejudice. But I'd be more inclined to think dumping the huge $$ people and starting with the young and hungry (which I'd like to see) would need someone with seasoned maturity and experience to handle a huge turnover, rather than a clean slate approach. Would a Yankee franchise under George even consider fielding no $$ players and start over? I can't see that happening.

I'm so old skool, but I really miss the farm club system.

They won 95 games.

Both teams hit around .280 on the season, but the Tigers' ERA was half a run lower than the Yankees' ERA.

Simple fact: The Yankees couldn't match up with Verlander, Bonderman, Rogers, Robertson and Miner. When Wang is your ace ...

Simpler fact: The Yankees lost to a better team.

I'm sick of this "flop" stuff -- this "stunning upset" stuff.

Give credit where credit is due.

I feel bad that the Twins stole the division from them on the last day - what a great season the Tigers had. If they go all the way, it would have been nice for them to have the Division on their resume’. Then again - I guess nobody remembers that stuff. It's all about the ring ;)

No way, it's much more fun making fun of the Yankees (even though I called Skanks/Twins ALCS).
Still funny!

All together now.... Awwwwww!

Seriously, try being a baseball fan for a change. I'm watching my Dodgers go down for a serious drubbing from the Mets. Am I disappointed? Did I have tickets to game four that won't happen? Yes, and yes. Am I finished with baseball for the year? Of course not.

Oh, and it's been 18 years over here.

The problem is I don't know who I want to root for. I guess I will jump on the A's wagon for a while. Now if the Mets make the World Series I will root hard against them.:p

Go Tigers!!!

If there was one game that I was most nervous about, it was this one with Bondo starting... his last start against the Royals didn't leave me with a lot of confidence in this guy. But he proved me wrong. He made some good pitches and was efficient, especially early... I think that stat was 23 pitches to get through the first 3 innings? For a young guy coming off of a bad loss like he did in his last start, that must have been a great confidence boost.

Psssst, Yankees fans... A-Rod wasn't the only player of yours to choke. Just a hint in the likely case that you decide to dump the majority of the blame here on the 2005 Most Valuable Player. Management (and not just Torre) shouldn't escape blame here either.

He's also not 100% to blame either. Players still have to make plays.

Low payroll does not necessarily equate to having a roster 100% full of players who play for the love of the game... just like have the highest payroll in baseball doesnt equate to a 100%, sealed contract between ownership and its fans that a championship will be won.

And honestly, you would be happy to see the Yankees field a team of plucky no-names that love the game and play every game and every AB 100% but has just as much a chance as 26 other teams to fall just a little short of the post-season in any given year? You'd be happier if the Yankees released all of their over-paid, non-producing vets (and you can't cut only A-Rod and Sheffield.. Giambi, Damon, Johnson to name a few others stunk it up at times too) and went out and brought up a Double-A kid fresh out of college or highschool?

Sounds more like a sterotypical Yankee fan to me, so I would guess the answer to my question to be No.

Sometimes, teams beat other teams because they are better and not because they have a higher payroll...

It's refreshing to see Motown celebrate. As one who'd like to see them in the WS (against STL of course), I only hope they're not celebrating too much, too soon. The A's have looked consistent, empty seats and all.

You don't need to root for anyone to appreciate a good baseball performance. I don't even like Kenny Rogers, but I had more fun watching him throw that game the other day than I have watching any baseball game in a while. Just watch. You might be surprised at how good it can get :)

Go Tigers!!!!!!

All $200 million buys you is a handful of runs in the playoffs.
Looks like the Yankees have a lot of time for golf again this year.

Hahahahahaha
