I did a few battery/heat tests to push the iPhone 13 Pro, on day 2 of ownership:
- Recorded video 1080p/30fps for 2hrs 30min straight: 55% battery was used, ~70%brightness, little heat output.
- Recorded 30 min of 4k/30 vs 1080/30: did not see much of a difference in battery life, slightly more heat
- Recorded 4k/60: in this case the phone heats up but can still be held comfortable for long periods, didn't test battery
- Recorded 1080p/30fps, peak brightness, charging at 12 or 15 watts: gets a little warm
- General app/web usage drains the battery slowly and fairly uniform 100-20%. The battery life is impressive and in line with the YouTube battery life comparison test (mrwhostheboss)
- However, I don't think video streaming is going to hit those sky high hours listed in tech specs
Notes:
- I'm using LTE, refresh up to 120, bluetooth off, wifi on
- I went through 3 iOS 15 "battery saving tips" YouTube videos. There's a lot of customizations that touch on as well. It took a few hours to go through everything and shut down features and privacy options.
- There is a battery calibration process mentioned in one of those videos. Might be helpful for someone having problems.
- Apple 5W still works well with the old USBA to lightning cable (will use for overnight charging to reduce heat and increase battery lifespan).
- Tested a Samsung 10,000mah/25watt PD power bank. On the USBC output charging appears as fast as Apples 20w charger.
