My series 4 usually last me two full days, for some reason today I’ve noticed it’s been draining faster than ever. I took it off the charger at about 545 this morning and I only have 38% battery left. How do I figure out what is suddenly draining my battery?

which complications do you have on your face?

My 40 AW battery progress.
Usage 4h 36 min.
Standby 1 day 13 hours. 18% left.

I used it twice to monitor my sleep ( each time drained 18% of the battery) and once 60 min. High intensity workout ( 10% ). Alarm used two mornings ( I love alarm).
Background refresh off except couple apps.
Brightness on lowest.
Fall detection off
Stand reminder off
Daily coaching off
Wake screen on wrist raise off ( blinking screen was distracting me at the gym)

Without sleep and workout monitoring I think my watch could easily go another full day

Comparing my new 44mm ss gold.

Usage 4h 39min
Standby 1d. 14h 25% left.

I used it twice to monitor my sleep ( each time drained 16% of the battery) and once 60 min. High intensity workout ( 10% ). Alarm used two mornings .
Background refresh off except couple apps.
Brightness on lowest.
Fall detection off
Stand reminder off
Daily coaching off
Wake screen on wrist raise off ( blinking screen was distracting me at the gym)
Unlocked computer yesterday at least 10 times, today 1 time.
I used siri a lot.

Battery on 44mm watch is lasting longer IMO.

Just out of interest - how many people here that have a problem with their battery also have "Messages" in the dock of their watch?

I've been working on my Mac today and noticed that Messages has been popping up on Handover from the watch a *lot* (when I'm not using it or receiving messages) and I wonder if there's some kind of error with it and it's activating itself in the background. If you've got Messages in your dock why not take it out and see if that makes a difference.

Does the Siri face drain battery faster. First day I had a different face, battery drained slow, like 25% all day. Now from 7am to 9pm it drops 40%

After a bit more testing using the same older watch face as I had on my Series 2 I’m getting around the same drain as I was before with that face, sometimes better, sometimes worse, honestly I just think there appears to be more variation in battery drain with this watch and considering I’ve noticed more bugs in the Watch OS 5 than I’ve had in previous versions it might come down a little to that at least. Here’s hoping Apple do a lot of bug fixing and optimisation on the updates to come.

My series 2 would often be 100% 6-7 hours after taking it off the charger and sleep tracking (I had a simple red display with alarm and weather complication - this predated theatre mode). I would switch to it before going to sleep. Even when theatre mode was enabled, I used this method as it was habit. So, it could have turned on over night.

I noticed that trend on a Series 2. It tends to stay on the 100% mark a lot longer and would start to drain faster once it's below 50%. The percentage drain isn't always linear and that changed after setting it up as new and calibrating it. The Series 4's sensor seems to be more precise all the way through.

My battery life has taken a dive recently for no good reason. I was getting 48 hours comfortably when I first got it but lately I'm down to about 40 hours which sucks because I really want to get through a full 2nd day. Can't figure out the reason. Light user. Do most people leave wifi on?

how does app refresh in backround works?!?

i have it on off on iphone and always received notifications, the app i open continue to work also when i push the home button and so on... but iphone is a stand alone device.

How does it work on AW? if i turn the setting off (provided not having relevant complications on the face) the apps will continue to work as usual? the herat rate will be registered automatically as well? activities?

thank you

Apps will still work. It just means when you open things like news you have to wait for it to update.

Or carrot you have to wait. Unless you use something on a complication. Any complications will still update in the background even if background app refresh is totally disabled.

Just found this thread so not read all but
my series 4 battery is down to 50% at 10 this morning from 100% last night at 9. That’s not great is it? I do use the activity tracker and wear in bed but it’s still a bit low isn’t it? How are your batteries holding out?

I have bought my S4 44mm GPS a month ago and I constantly had two days of battery life with moderate use (including autosleep during the night, with the watch in airplane mode).

Yesterday evening I recharged the watch and I went to bed with 100% battery.
This morning I woke up and the watch was at less than 20%... never happened before, even with my previous S2 42mm.

I have rebooted it and I will monitor the situation over the next few days.

Strange behavior that I’m unable to explain.

It’s now down to 34%! I’m just sat at my desk in the office! I must have something turned on that’s draining the battery?

I’m at 93% with a little over 7 hours of standby and 30 minutes of use.

44mm gps only, detect gym turned off, everything else on... lowest brightness. Info graphic watch face.

I just got an alert that it was at 10%. It gave me the option to turn on Power Reserve, but I didn't turn it on because I want to run the battery down until the watch turns off to see if it calibrates the battery meter.

in your opinion does letting the AW discharge completely works in order to get better battery management?

The new infograph.

to me, it seems that it drains the battery a little more than the other faces... but some others seem to disagree. At any rate, your consumption seems too high. Do you have 3rd parties app on complications on the face? I'd check if there is a 3rd party app consuming so much power... maybe try closing the apps from the dock, if you have not done it yet, and i'd try disabling apple refresh in background.

just to see if something changes..
