Maybe Apple is trying to do too much, maybe simplification is required.

Sony's smart watch 2 with its colour touch screen display only lasts three days. Samsung's smart watch is 24 hour battery life. Way too short.

I expect Apple is trying to get the kitchen sink in its iWatch.

I think they are waiting until they are able to create what they perceive as a desirable product. If they decided long battery life was important and it could not be achieved with acceptable design sacrifice I have no doubt they would kill it (or delay it).

iPhone (well, iPad originally) was years in the making and faced similar issues. This company has maddening patience.

Smartwatches are not the next big thing.

People should not be wearing watches at all.

The wristwatch is going the way of the pocket watch. It will be interesting to see in movies.

I cant understand this argument. Why would people stop wearing watches? I dont need to dig in my pocket every time I need to check the time by looking at my phone. Plus it is a fashion accessory as well.

I have a pocket watch! It can make phone calls, access the Web, and run apps, too! ;)

active

If it has integrated fitness tools, I would use the crap out of it...outside..during my long runs or hiking or camping...while wearing tank tops and short sleeved shirts. LOL

Because anyone sporting a smartwatch is unlikely to go outside often enough.

(also sleeves)

Take your time Apple!

That's my feeling exactly. They may not always be first, but waiting till they can get it right in my opinion isn't a bad way to go. I'm excited about what they may release, but I'm also patient because the two issues I see with what's available today are: 1) size and style, and 2) no agreement or standard or general expectation as to what these devices should do besides simply be a watch.

Agreed. Apple are not going to release a dud product / a watch that has 2 or 3 days battery life.

Time is on their side, there is no hurry to get the watch out.

the sun also shines

I thought I remember a patent that recently showed a screen that also doubled as a solar panel....

i know this is a 1/2 joke, but im rocking a Casio Oceanus with solar. Charges from sun and artificial light. Of course that works due to the face of the watch being able to house a solar panel, but i'd say there should be enough room around the bezel of an LCD watch to fit one.

It may be time to lay this experiment to rest Tim. How about putting the energy spent on iWatch into your current line of products, and come up with some truly amazing tech that none can compete with for the foreseeable future?

Yep, because 9 women in a room can create a baby in one month. Throw more resources at the problem!!

PLEASE don't release another non-Retina iPad mini like product. That was atrocious.

No it wasn't. It was brilliant in so many ways. I enjoyed more than a year with my non-retina mini, it was one of the best products I'd ever owned.

People shouldn't be wearing watches? What planet do you hail from?

I'd wear the **** out of a nicely designed iWatch that didn't have some giant face. A nano as a watch is far too large for me and I don't have small wrists at all. I'd like to see it go the route of the pebble in terms of size.

Can't wait to get my hands on a smart watch. It can go with the iPad I never use and the AppleTV I never use.

So psyched to have a limited version of an iPhone which I can only use with one hand.

Find a streaming site that has shows you want to watch, load them up on your ipad, AirPlay to AppleTV. You can get HD quality movies and TV for a fraction of the cost of iTunes - if not free.

I think they need someone like Forestall to pound this through (not actually him). Someone with a brain that can absorb key aspects of the entire scope, and come up with a logical heading. If they explore every design and manufacturing option they can come up with in development, they'd be mired, over budget, and behind schedule. Or even worse, distracted from their core business.

WTF is it with people saying people shouldn't wear watches? I love watches... this is my current timepiece... love it.

Along with manufacturing issues, iWatch development has also been somewhat impacted by the loss of a key team member, Bryan James, who recently left Apple for Nest. James, who previously worked on iPods, was a member of the iWatch team.

Please Mac Rumors don't embarrass yourselves by stating this as fact, how the hell would you know what projects the guy was working on? Has he or Apple ever publicly stated he was working on the iWatch programme? If the iWatch exists.

Now, IF it exists, then I have no doubt it's being plagues with battery life issues, most likely because they are trying to stuff too much functionality onto it. Just stick solar charging or something into it.

Just what I want. A watch that looks like it belongs to a nerd. Make a smart watch that looks like a real watch and they will sell millions.

My Pebble keeps on ticking, and now they've introduced a dressier version. I'm sure iWatch will be great, but Pebble deserves credit for keeping it simple and getting the job done with tiny fraction of the resources.

apple is aiming a lot higher than the pebble. they want a colour display and a multitouch interface with more advanced functionality
