So far I don't see a difference. One hour after unplugging this morning I was down to 92%... and all I did was listen to about 20 minutes worth of podcasts and quickly check weather... rest of time on standby.

After updating yesterday my battery was at 60% and I ended the day at 10%... so I lost half the battery life in about 7 hours. As far as that goes, no improvement.

We'll see how the rest of the day goes before passing judgment, but so far it's not looking good, based on my experience last night and this morning.

Here's my update after updating to 5.01:

Battry: 8%
Usage: 6 Hours, 55 Minutes
Standby: 16 Hours, 16 Minutes

Overall the update has made a big difference on my end. :cool:

I'm starting to hear this is actually a carrier issue with AT&T having the problems. Some kind of hardware-related issue with GSM. Verizon folks are spared. Spells trouble, if you ask me.

Have AT&T and verzion ip4s.
The first three digits of te serial numbers are C38 and c39 and the Verizon C38.
My batteries on both networks drain faster than than their ip4 replacements.

Not bad so far, 88% after 1h5m of use and 2h33m of standby. 30m of 3G streaming with slacker on my walk to work did not budge my meter from 100%, I downloaded 7 songs from iTunes over 3G (screen off), and the rest of the time was light 3G browsing. Not seeing much drain in standby. Last night, I meant to keep it plugged in even though it was at 100% before I went to bed. Fell asleep before I could, woke up with it at 99% with wifi on all night, 6 emails received (gmail fetch at 30m, system services locations off). Let's see if this holds up! I don't have iCloud enabled for now.

After reinstalling 5.0 numerous times since it came out. I finally installed it in a way to fix my battery problem!. Now it's running good as iOS4, it starts to drain a little quicker over a few days until I restart but it's all good :D

I haven't read through this entire thread, but I don't use iCloud, under location services I only have compass, siri, and weather on and my brightness is set to 30% (which is fine with me) and I get great battery life. The other day I wanted to calibrate my phone and I left it on overnight (after going through an entire day without a charge) and when I woke up it was still at like 28%. Do you guys think that perhaps iCloud and some of those location services have a lot to do with this or did I just get lucky?

That's a lie, sorry. You're not getting 9 hours usage with 5 days standby on one single full charge. What happens is, when you plug in your phone to charge at say 30% to about 70% percent, your usage stats don't reset.

HA! That explains a lot, I keep it in the drawer most the time at home and use my iPad instead. My son uses it sometimes, he was probably recharging it partially.
Thanx for the info ...

Sources?

I'm on AT&T and the battery on my two 4S' have been perfect since launch.

press home button together with on/off switch that will take a screen shot of your iPhone 4S screen and place it in photos, then you can post it here!

I have the screenshot but exactly how do you post it here I can't paste it In?

Downloaded 5.01 this morning. Still burning through battery like it's nothing. I was using battery-intensive apps streaming audio, but they are draining about 2x as fast as the 3GS.

My friend has just emailed me his battery stat for the last hour or so. He just updated to 5.0.1 (Told him not to but he didn't listen) from 5.0 where he was dropping about 2% every 5mins. He's fuming, anyone know if he can go back to 5.0 ?? He's out of contract/warranty so can't replace the phone without paying but it was bad on iOS5 but great on 4.3 :S.

Edit: I asked him what he was doing and he said he was on the phone for about 5mins and played Fifa for 30mins along with a few tweets on the Twitter app and then left his phone on a table for a bit while he went out.

I have been noticing the little arrow is purple next to my battery all the time indicating something is using my location ALL THE TIME, just now thought to look at the apps instead of just looking straight to the system services like I have. It's Reminders, and I only have two reminders set that have already come and passed. One with a location the other just a time and day, neither of which I checked as completed. Going to check now and keep an eye on it then delete the location one if that doesn't work.

Anyone else try this?

Yikes, that's by far the worst battery life I've seen under iOS 5. Tell him to do a full restore (or DFU if he knows how) and set it up as a new phone. If the problem persists, it's definitely hardware and he should take it to be replaced at an Apple store.

Yeah, I've just spent 30mins guiding him through a restore of 5.0.1 because it's not letting him restore to 5.0. Been running about 15mins now, he's dropped 6% (so it's slowed a bit). Just told him to let it run down and do a full recharge. He's left the phone now so we'll see in well....3hrs at this rate what the result is. Told the numpty not to update but some people just don't listen! 4hrs standby must be heaven to what he was just getting

This is my overall observation from updating to 5.0.1 - charging it to 100% - then discharging it till the phone died. Keep in mind that when I snapped this screenshot the phone wasn't dead yet, so I'd add about a good 5-10 minutes to Usage and about 15+ minutes to Standby.

Just got done calibrating the battery so I'll post up my results from today's run later on tonight or tomorrow but overall I'm very happy with the update Apple has made.

Below is my current setup...

Settings:
Wi-Fi -> OFF (I only turn it on at home)
Bluetooth -> OFF
Diagnostics & Usage -> Don't Send

System Services:
Cell Network Search -> ON
Compass Calibration -> ON
Diagnostic & Usage -> OFF
Location-Based iAds -> OFF
Setting Time Zone -> OFF
