if apple cannot solve this issue then they need to collect all iphone 4s return then wait for next iphone next summer ... that the best way

LOL won't happen. I went in with the understanding of the sun would not be the end all and be all of what I was wanted. It's pretty cool with flaws. All of the other phones are worse. I just get annoyed with the Mac cult claiming that there are no flaws whatsoever. It doesn't just work. It is pretty damn cool with some serious flaws.

why don't apple spend times making serious battery , no one need they keep release new phone every year , come on ,, stop 1 or 2 years make dam
100 hour battery 10,000 hour standby , make iphone like real iphone .....

Hey v0n, glad to see someone else using NetStat

I've been using it since iOS4 to fix battery drain.

I've made a few tricks so my NetStat is totally clear, but it requires having all push turned off, but it still let's my 3GS have 6-7 hours real usage and 3+ days standby on top of that ;)

The major culprit is being signed into the "Store" section in settings, this seems to keep 1 push connection open, even with all push off... and you get signed in every time you sync with iTunes, also in iOS5 it can bug out and not show you're signed in, when you are... clicking on sign in, and "new account", and then pressing cancel will occasionally crash you back to home screen, and when you go back into "Store" you're signed in for some reason... really bizarre

BTW, also glad you noticed this bug causes "usage" in standby ;) it's been doing that since iOS4

With a clear NetStat list, my data and "usage" doesn't go up at all over night

tl;dr

Go to Settings>Store and SIGN OUT, bye bye random unwanted push connection

Wait, so are you saying logging out in the Store section in settings helps battery?

Yep, give it a try... you gain nothing by being signed in anyway.

I actually notice my 3GS feels slightly laggier when it's signed into the Store section on settings... especially when scrolling on the home screen

I think my 4S is doing well on 5.0.1. Right now it has 18 hours, 30 minutes standby and 5 hours usage and I still have 34% life left.

I've used it a lot today and took it off the charger at 0230 this morning. Plenty of web browsing, email, texting, phone calls, a few games and I transferred a bunch of files from iDisk to Dropbox too.

I think the update fixed my battery issue.

I agree, although it seems in my case the battery drainage comes and goes which freaks me out, but i got 29 hours of standby and 5 hours usage and almost 2 hours of that was playing infinity blade so I'm assuming thats pretty damned good.

Here is my usage. Only thing I have off is bluetooth.. I also have push email and iCloud with only photos and find my phone on. Auto brightness is on and set at 50%. First photo is 5.0.1 and 2nd photo is 5.0 It looks great but however the usage is running up when I'm not using it so I think the results might be skewed. But regardless i'm happy with my usage. No complaints here.

When I talk for about a hour over the phonemy battery litteraly drops 50%. About 20 texts and my battery down 20%. I see a lot of people getting long usage but If I streamed pandora over wifi at 100% not touching the phone I would prob get around 15+ hours usage. I tested this yesterday and i lost about 20-25 over 5 hours of streaming pandora. The screen just eats battery and so does phone calls for me. No way could I ever come close to 8 hours talk time I'd say 3 hours tops

I thought my iPhone had a decent battery life, but then today while my gf on was tryin on clothes at the mall I watched my battery drop from 26% to 8% in just under half an hour. All I was doing was browsing macrumors, only other app open was messaging.. But it took approx 10 mins for it to go from 8% to 6% under the same usage

These battery issues are wack lol

It works for a lot of people. 11 hours standby today, 3 hours use. Down to just over 40% at the end of the day.

I've had the drain you describe on both my iPad and my 4S. I fixed it, somehow, and it is actually just fine now. Hopefully apple will find a way to fix it for everyone.

Updated both our phones, charged to 100% and unplugged them.

My Wife's 3Gs has been on standby for 8hrs and had zero use.
Losing 1% of charge for each our of standby. Her email is set to check 3 accts once per hour and her location services are on.

My 4s was on standby for 4hrs before I began to use it and it was at 97% so it's just a little less than 1% per hour of standby.

I then used my 4s, surfing, taking photos, editing photos, listening to music at the same time and even texted for a while with some family for about 2hrs straight.

Now I'm at 2.5hrs of usage and 6.5hrs of standby and holding at 73%. So even if I go by my wife's numbers of 1% per hour of standby, I should be at perhaps 93%. So with use, it looks like it burns through about 10% per hour when in multitasking use. So I should be able to get my desired 6-8hrs of use with plenty of power (20%) time left to have it sit around on standby.

Note: I have my email on manual checks only and the above is with location services on.

Not sure what this is compared to pre-update use, but I will know more once I go through a week of life and normal day to day use.

So far though, it seems to be good.

I just got my iP4s last week. Restored from backup with 5.0. I didn't really have a problem with my previous iP4 with regards on the battery. The iP4s would indicate "usage" as standy, draining the battery. I got the OTA 5.0.1 and the problem "usage" indicator went away. I had messed up something on phone during regular activity. I didn't want to try and find a way to "undo" it and just restore it from backup since the backup I had was only 2 hours ago. I restored to 5.0.1 and found a noticeable improvement with the battery, better than OTA update. The percentage drop seem to be appropriate and the standy is accurate.

Here is my iP4s after I restored to 5.0.1

I think you end up with at least 6 hours usage and 1 day in standby...which is good to me.

I think that the usage number being the same as standby, even though the phone is locked, is what is killing my battery. I mean I don't even use the phone and it says it has a crazy amount of hours used. What kind of restore would best fix this? I feel something is preventing the phone from going into true standby or something is constantly running in the background.

If I stop "maintaining" it actively and let it go, sooner or later, especially during working week when I move a lot, the "stoned" socket bug returns and I get 12-24 hours standby time from my phone.

Hey v0n (and Ashin), nice posts.

You guys have obviously given this a lot of thought.

Ashin mentioned signing out of itunes store. What else should we do to 'maintain'?

I was having this problem too, it went away after the OTA 5.0.1. Battery life still wasn't good, but the usage/standby indicate was accurate. For something unrelated, I restored it 5.0.1 and reloaded my 2hour old backup. Everything seems fine. And battery seems to be really good. Better than I went with the OTA update and without the update.

What is this thread about? My iPhone 4S has a better battery than what my iPhone 4 ever had, and I'm definitely a heavy user.

iOS 5.0.1
Siri: On
Location: On
iCloud: On (Everything)
Find My iPhone: On
3G: Enabled
Brightness: 40% (Auto)

At the end of the day (wow, usage and standby are the same amount of time - what a coincidence):
