As someone who has experienced this more than once, had it confirmed by the genius at Apple, and replaced, I see good news.

The more we read about it in the mainstream press as we have lately, the higher the chance is that Apple will fix it properly.

The update helped some users, but not all. There are many including myself that still have very weak battery performance from a duration standpoint.

The second point of good news, is that Tim Cook is not one to go underground, get silent like Apple used to and try and hide.

I'm so happy that Cook is at the helm.

Those who pay close attention to Apples web site will have noticed that there are subtle changes here and there in the language that conveys a new more friendly Apple. An Apple that really truly does care about every customer. There is less bragging and wild claims of "Magical & Revolutionary" sounding like out of body experiences, and more real world dialog that gives the customer more confidence than ever in their purchase.

I predict that as time passes Apple's return rates will also go down.

Those who hold extremely high and unrealistic expectations based on Job's "Smoke & Mirrors" Marketing, will begin to fade away as Tim presents Apples products in a very smart, clever way without the hype and exaggeration. Tim will not feed peoples OCD, he will be an honest presenter. As we unbox the products designed and built under the watch of Tim Cook, we will not have unrealistic expectations. That in and of itself is really great.

It's all good. Very good :)

Another amazing battery life for me. I took screenshots throughout my usage at different times. Didn't play music at all. My usage mainly consist of web browsing and YouTube Played a short game when I was at 5% battery level to make it go down to 1%. Brightness is at 45%. I have email setup as push but to be fair that address doesn't get many emails.

Hey there everyone! I'm new to this forum and like many of you, have purchased the new 4S. I switched from my EVO 4G (Sprint) ever since they announced the iPhone on Sprint.

So far, I've love the iPhone but to be honest at first, I never really quite noticed the whole battery issue until it was being reported that it was. Since then, I've been paying close attention to my phone and have noticed that the battery indeed does drain significantly... close to how my EVO did - then again, EVO's were known for that. Anyhow, I was going to upgrade to the iOS 5.0.1 BUT... being that there still seems to be issues and in some cases far worse then how the iOS 5 was, I'm wondering... should I upgrade to the new patch or wait until a newer patch comes out? Your thoughts...

If you're not having a very good battery life then what do you have to lose, just update.

Well, I don't want it to get worse. It seems highly like that it will based on accounts. Any word on a newer patch being released soon?

I'm selling my 4 tomorrow in order to get my 4S (also tomorrow), however, checking all this battery stuff over the internet I'm feeling kinda afraid to get it. I mean, I'm a bit OCD with hardware issues (loose butons, light bleeding and so on..) but I expect at least that 4S battery least 1 day with Wifi ON , texting a lot and a few light games (not 3D). With my 4 I've been great with battery even with iOS 5.0.1 , it lasts at least 1-2 days with normal usage.

I mean, what's the point of create a new powerfull device that you can't even enjoy it because you don't have juice and you need to turn everything off...

(I don't even know why the 4S battery's only more 12 mAh than iPhone 4, I'm not engeneer but for the power improve I think that 12 mAh more's not enough.. just wondering)

I've gone three days without charging my 4S and everything is turned on. One of the first things that really blew me away about this phone was the battery life, especially compared to my other phone.

BS........Lemme guess, you also stream pandora 5hrs a day, send out 200 text messages and respond to 50 emails all while making 4hrs of voice calls?

No, that's probably why my battery is so good. I'm not a heavy phone user, on a regular day I mainly use it for email and to make a couple phone calls.

I thought after upgrading to 5.0.1 I could re-enable my email accounts. So I turned fetch on for every hour.. Boy was I wrong. Phone lasts about 6-7 hours usage, and about a day standby if I try. With fetch on, my usage was cut in half, as was standby. Needless to say, I have once again disabled my email accounts.

Thats great usage.

currently

4 hours, 16 minutes usage
19 hours, 2 minutes standby

33% left

this good considering being at work for a fair point with no 3G coverage? think i lost about 6% overnight which was odd as i never lose more than 4%

I was having the battery problems after the update...did a fresh restore last night, and put back all my settings...today as of right now, I am at 3 Hours 15 Minutes of Usage, and 14 Hours, 9 minutes of Standby, and I am at 40%...thats not to bad I don't think...

You should get at least 5 hours usage and maybe at least 16-17 hours standby...so certainly not bad IMO. Depends where you are...if you are at work it's fine..you would expect to get more on wifi tho.

lets us know your final numbers before charging.

I'm on

4 hours, 51 minutes usage
20 hours standby

23% left

Back to 8% drain over night. Wifi off & mobile data/3G off. Means 1% drop an hr im back to 100hrs standbys. Half of apples claim of 200hrs

Only thing I did was install amazon app.

Typing this on wifi Only been on a couple minutes I'm at 90%

final numbers before charging at 6% left

5 hours, 30 minutes usage
21 hours standby

not too bad considering i used a fair bit at work with no 3G and push on.

I think battery life is worse in standby. If i use it it's about right on specs. I can get 10% drop per hour on wifi browsing like crazy. Apple specs 9hr wifi. But standby is back to 1% per hour drop over night = 100hrs standby. Half apples specs. I've had one night where it was 0.5% drop. 4% over 8hrs. Spot on apples quoted 200hr standby

I don't think alot of the people posting who play with their phones shows much of the problem because it's like your chasing the battery drain. If that
makes sense.

To prove a point to the tech guy at apple I have hardly used my phone since last full charge. Proving the phone uses almost the same amount of battery if in standby or being used.

I used to get around 20hrs standby with 2hrs usage (wifi surfing, ipod) when using it normally mening I'd charge it from around 1600-2000. Take it off the charger, hardly use it before going to bed. Waking up with around 35% batterylife and then using it a couple of hours at the start of the day before it dies out around lunch.

This time around I have hardly used it and the stats as of now are 51min usage and 18hrs standby with 29% battery left. Hoping this will make the tech guy at apple take it seriously:)

P.S I Have very conservative settings, no push and lots of stuff turned off.

So, I noticed yesterday how my carrier signal would get randomly dropped. Shortly after I got "no signal", it jumped back to my carriers network. Figuring it probably would do this overnight aswell, I went to carrier setting, and switched the "automatic" off, and choose my carrier from the list. This resulted in the phone not loosing the carrier reception again.

Thing is though, this might aswell have helped on the battery. I'm not done going through the power cycle from yesterday, but I will keep a close eye on it. I am pretty sure the baseband software is somehow bugged, making the phone constantly struggle with the connection to the carrier, and thus draining the battery over night and so on.

Currently I am at 76% battery, 1 hour and 35 minutes of use, and 20 hours and 56 minutes in standby. I'll post screenshots of this later, but it really seems it has helped some for me, atleast in standby time. I haven't charged my 4S since yesterday noon.

Yep thats exactly what im saying. If peole stop using their phone for a day and see the drain. If its 1% an hour then your getting 100hrs standby. If its 2% your getting 50 hr standby. Apples specs are 0.5% an hour. 200hrs standby

Anyone using their phone is just matching the drain and will think its all normal when its clearly not.

If you got 20hrs standby and 1,5hrs use and only lost 24% battery I can tell you that you don't have the serious battery problems that some of us have:)

You'll probably get better batt life from doing what you said but you prob. don't have the serious bug that is affecting some. Take my example. With half your use and alittle less standbytime I have 29% battery left:)

If you however had as bad battery as me before and after changing the settings now are seeing the batterylife you posted above I will surely try it myself!
