wouldn't say i've had an overwhelming issue with my iphone 4s and battery since the 5.01 update but yesterday i put it down about 9pm and forgot to plug it in with battery around 90%. anyway the phone never woke me up as it was dead in the morning.

i plugged it into the mains charger for an hour and the phone didnt respond, nor did it in my car charger. my ipod charged on both.

anyway went to the apple store about 40miles away and she said my phone had had a usage of over 8 hours. i said thats strange as i was alseep!

anyway they replaced its only 2 weeks old so see how i get on with this.

btw i have no push notifications on or location services. but good service from apple!!!!!

I agree that there is some issue with iMessage doing something in the background...either trying to connect via 3g network or just continually doing something that is draining the battery.

I have had 2 replacements phones and each had battery drain....Phones would last maybe 8 hours under light use. Battery usage that was displayed was not inine with what I really used. My date usage was always higher. Some days I never used 3g data but it would show several MB's in and out.

After trial and error I discovered this STOPPED my battery drain:
restore phone as new
turn-off iMessage
reset network settings 2x
Reset phone
Leave iMessage off

My battery drain has stopped. Now after taking phone off the charger @ 5AM and back on @ 11PM, my phone still has 30-40% battery.

Im NOT saying everyone should shut-off iMessage. Its your choice, your phone. Im just saying what worked for me. I have tried nearly every posted suggestion, some worked very briefly but this has worked now for 1 week.

iCloud OFF, WiFi Sync OFF, Location Services ON (except Time Zone Setting), iMessage ON, e-mail checked every hour, Find My iPhone ON, Appstore Login ON.

Would like to try this but would'nt the phone reset at the end of your recipie turn iMessage back on again?

Here is what worked for me:

Restore iPhone as new
Turn-off iMessage
Reset network settings 2 times
Reset iPhone (power and home button)
Leave iMessage off....Do not turn it back on. (it should remain off after the resets) I know iMessage is cool, but it just might be the problem. If you can't live without iMessage...this solution might not be for you.

Phone should return to normal battery usage.

I have 2 other iPhones 4s's...They both work great using iMessage. For some reason, it seems to only be an issue with my iphone. I wish I could explain but I can't....Maybe something with service provider? Maybe a profile issue or provisioning issue??

If I were to turn iMessage back on.....the drain starts. Sometimes immediately after turning it on sometimes hours later.

I keep having usage even when I'm not using the phone (like 8 hours of usage over night...) AND have wifi/cellular data off.

I have no mail accounts, no apps except AIM and Skype (signed out), Siri off, iCloud off, Bluetooth off.

Anybody got an idea what's going on with my phone or do I need to call ghostbusters?

Does not seem to be working for me, thanks for the tip though:) Sure this will work for others!

I have tried all the suggestions on here, and still my useage was always about 80% of my standby time even when the phone was clearly not in use.
The best I got was after a restore everthing looked good until I made a call then useage started to ramp up as per "normal"
I am currently with T-Mobile UK.
Out of frustration I tried a giffgaff sim (o2 network) and lo and behold useage remains fine. I have no idea how this can be except to suggest something in the network settings for T-Mobile.
Note : cellular data settings with TMob sim are not visible, they are with Giffgaff and indeed with giffgaff I had to input them manually.
Have contacted T-Mobile about this and they can see constant data connections in my logs and suggested an app running but I have nothing running and phone setup is the same between the two sims.
Currently awating another networks sim to try that.

My battery life seems to be amazing from what was a pretty bad start.

7 hours 37 mins Usage
1 day 14 hours Standby before it switched itself off.

I have the following set up and enabled on my phone:

Exchange Push for email, calendar, contacts and reminders (1 month of mail and calendar)
Hotmail Push for email only (1 month again)
iCloud backup only, everything else OFF
Location Services - Everything ON
Push Notifications - Everything ON
Bluetooth - ON
WiFi - ON
3G - ON
Roaming (for switching between T-Mobile and Orange in the UK) - ON
Brightness - 50% with auto adjustment ON

To fix my battery I did the following -

Calibrate once a month leaving the phone for 1 hour before charging again Overnight

DFU restore, restored backup from iTunes, delete email/iCloud accounts, RESET ALL SETTINGS, re-add all email/iCloud accounts, set up phone as you wish.

I did this to my dad's phone which was worse than mine initially, it now lasts 2 full days with around 8 hours usage on average, however he mostly uses wifi and only has 1 push account.
This nixes all of your game data correct?? I can live without the texts, but I've built up a decent amount of game data so far.

Mine is incredibly inconsistent. Right now I have 1 hr 2 mins usage, 20 hrs 11 mins standby and 81% battery. That is very good compared to my battery life from just two days ago. Using my phone in pretty much the same way all the time I will get anywhere from 2-3 hours of use to 5-6 hours of use. Some days are just better than others.

I had set up my phone as new the other day. Took it off charge five hours ago after the phone was on charge all night.

Usage is 1:32hrs and battery is already at 75% and that's only with a bit if web, email and a 10 min phone call.

Not good. :(

Why is this thread dying out? Have we all resigned ourselves to wait for 5.0.2 and hope that fixes it?

My battery life has been worse than usual over the past few days. It's draining at 1% every 2 minutes while doing light tasks like web browsing. For more processor intensive tasks it's even worse. I watched a 45 minute Netflix video last night. My battery dropped from 41% to 17% during that time. What a joke!

I've tried be patient with this. But it's been a month and a half now. Where's the fix Apple? Between the antennagate debacle on the iPhone 4 and the battery issue on the 4S, I am really starting to lose faith in your quality control.

I think if your battery is draining that fast, you should take it to Apple and get a replacement.
See if you can narrow down what might be causing the leak by turning off everything and then slowly turning on each service until you find the leak.

I think in your case since it is so severe....get a replacement. How much worse could it possibly be? All of the replacements are all new so no worries about getting a refurb. Atleast for a bit longer.....

The battery issue is more then a simple bug. It seems to only affect some phones. I have 3 iPhones 4s's but only one has this problem. I have had 2 replacement phones already....This might be a hardware issue???

Maybe we should start to compare serial #'s???

Could be a faulty componet used during certain time period??
I don't think there is a good way to read the serial??

My battery has been lasting me about 16 hours, which is fine by me as I only need it to last me through the day. However, over the Thanksgiving weekend, I had over 30 hours of standby with 30% battery still left. The difference?

Email.

I get over 100 emails a day, and between the constant push and the lighting up of the screen with notifications, I am speculating that was causing the battery to drain. I got about 20 emails on Thursday and Friday (18 of them were Black Friday deals), and my battery lasted me a LOT longer.

I have turned off the showing notifications on the lock screen to see if that has any effect.

Is this happening on iphone 4 and iphone 3gs? because my iphone 4 is going down from 100% to 70-80% every night. Its really annoying....

This thread is dying out because people (like me) aren't having battery issues anymore!
