My usage is:

Usage: 5 hours
Standby 12h hours, 6 minutes

And now Im at 20%.

To be honest, I used my phone heavily on 3G, lots of iMessages, Text Messages, few phone calls, 3G browsing, few games... is it good or bad battery life? Any opinion?

Finished calibrating battery, so got to test my iPhone properly... used BatteryDoctor to really squeeze the juice into it, I only really use this app rarely

Seems good enough for me, my 3GS averaged 5-7 hours at max with same standby... I expect around 6-7+ from any of my iPhones

Mostly 3G and wifi browsing, email, sms, phone calls, no games.

Also using all my tweaks, no push, clear NetStat list, diagnostics off, Ping off, system location services off, automatic clock setting, stuff like this...

For some reason today my battery is plummeting a percent every 10 min or so with out me using the phone. Usage and standby are the same.

For the last time, this means you have an app that is "stuck" or hanging. Restart your phone, if the usage and standby times are still the same, then do a restore.

This was my best battery life by far. This is with all location setting off in the system services (except for compass calibration). I also removed weather from my notification window so that it does not ping my location each time. The big thing here is that most of my usage was over wifi (80% or so) and very little location service usage. If am on 3G and using maps I can get my phone to die in 4 hours of usage or so.

It doesn't make a difference.

With no mail setup and no apps you get the same result?

Can't respond on his behalf bit I've tried restore and then set up as new iphone (even tried with a new apple id!) and still lose 5% batt per hr with no mail, apps or anything set up after restore is done.

Turn off iMessage and reset network settings. Leave iMessage off. Restart by holding power and home button. Leave iMessage off.
Battery will return to normal....

Take it back. Get another.

Don't wanna leave iMessage off, already have half the **** off. Hard reset stops the phantom usage until the next time.

Phantom data usage is there always, even on a phone with no apps.

I completely understand how you feel. I have had my iphone replaced twice for battery drain. I could only make it 8 to 10 hours a day. I would watch the battery meter drop.... I have 2 other iphones, both work great, and I used iMessage during the day. For some reason the battery drain was only on my phone....and 2 replacements.
Ever since I shut iMessage off, my iphone works great. Right now I have 88% battery after taking of the charger 9 hours ago. I have sent/received several dozen texts, made about 30 mins in calls, email 2 exchange accounts and 1 icloud, and surfed the web for about 10 minutes.
Please just try it.....

My battery life seems to be amazing from what was a pretty bad start.

7 hours 37 mins Usage
1 day 14 hours Standby before it switched itself off.

I have the following set up and enabled on my phone:

Exchange Push for email, calendar, contacts and reminders (1 month of mail and calendar)
Hotmail Push for email only (1 month again)
iCloud backup only, everything else OFF
Location Services - Everything ON
Push Notifications - Everything ON
Bluetooth - ON
WiFi - ON
3G - ON
Roaming (for switching between T-Mobile and Orange in the UK) - ON
Brightness - 50% with auto adjustment ON

To fix my battery I did the following -

Calibrate once a month leaving the phone for 1 hour before charging again Overnight

DFU restore, restored backup from iTunes, delete email/iCloud accounts, RESET ALL SETTINGS, re-add all email/iCloud accounts, set up phone as you wish.

I did this to my dad's phone which was worse than mine initially, it now lasts 2 full days with around 8 hours usage on average, however he mostly uses wifi and only has 1 push account.

Got my 4S on Monday (ordered factory unlocked from Apple) and my battery life is about 50% of what my 4 was. They both have 5.0.1. The 4S is a restore from iCloud backup of my 4, so all settings are the same.

After a typical day of use on the 4, I would come home with about 70% or greater battery life. From Monday-Wednesday, my 4S has been at 31%. Is it annoying, eh maybe. Since this is my alarm, I keep it charged on my stand every night, and if I really wanted to, I could have a stand at work.

For me, it's not a big deal, but for Apple who generally improves battery run time with each iPhone and MacBook update, this is pretty serious. And, no I didn't do a wipe, restore, clean, wipe, restore, clean blah blah blah. I shouldn't have to. I'll just let Apple sort it out.

I am enjoying Siri and the the 8M pixel camera. The HSPA+ on AT&T's network in the DFW area is spotty. I was hoping that would be better.

I'm not a software person but I think iMessage might be continuously trying to connect to iMessage server due to software bug? Many people have complained about unexplained 3g data usage. Also, iMessage does not use wifi, it looks to connect via 3g and there might be some kind of issue with it utilizing 3g and/or wifi??

I have definately noticed a spike in my data useage since getting the 4s.

250mb in 4 days, when i'm mostly connected to wifi. Definately some issue going on.
