When I first got my 4s, I ran the battery down to 0% and then charged it back up to 100%. I did this again before charging. I'm doing it again for the third time without charging. Is this OK? Is it better to do this or charge? Or no difference?

There is no difference in if you drain it all the way down. The iPhone 4s battery simply sucks.

If you drain your battery and then charge it, it helps. You only have to drain it once a month. You will not see any difference if you drain it more than one time. However... I agree with you. The 4s battery sucks!

im not sure its the battery, some people get very good longevity with all the services on. What could cause the variability here if so many people have the same hardware, same software, and restore it as new? It has to be something like reception, that would explain the variability.

There are lots of variability in software setup. Reception can alter battery a lot which makes it more variable.

However, there was a developer that had bad battery life on one device and not another. He restored and swap the backups between the two phone. The result was the bad battery life issue switched phones. Which gives good indication it is related to software issues on the setup of the phone.

too lazy to google article to link

hmm, I have read and heard this, but don't understand why it would happen to newly setup phones. I am on my second problem 4s, and while its not the worst of the worst, its not where it should be. Even according to the, "Geniuses." I never used backups or icloud, and restored both of them as new.

i get 6 hours to 6 and 1/2 hours (Siri is off and iCloud is off)

very disappointing ... need to charge every morning.

You get 6 hours usage you mean? how is that dissapointing? thats about what it should be..

whats your standby time?

i consistantly get around 6 hours to 6 hours 30 minutes standby and at least 1 day to 1 day 8-10 hours standby.

anything 6 hours usage and 1 day standby is very good.

----------

not got the pic to hand.
but my last usage at 2% was 5hrs 42mins and 1 day and 16 hours!
is that any good? bit paranoid now as to what is good and not

yes thats great.

Since posting from my laptop, the usage on my phone has gone from 1H 10m to 1H 21m in 15 minutes.
The phone was sitting on my desk, not being used!!

Well after seeing the dramatic increase in usage last night, I rebooted my phone and charged it to 100%.
I am now back to seing the usage reflecting the amount of time I have actually used the phone.
The only thing I did last night that I hadnt done all day was open a picture in the facebook app!! WTF!
It certainly looks as though certain apps start a process that for some reason, the phone cant stop even when killing that app!
Surely apple will be able to identify what this process is and sort it out.

Not the greatest but it'll do for now, just have a charger handy and you'll be fine.

your battery ok not good enough , also wifi off , let say wifi on all time , then your battery get worst than 4 hour 44 minutes ........

My Theory

So, here's my $0.02:

I had an iphone 4s that would routinely get 5 hours of usage time tops. I exchanged that for another iphone 4s, but this one pulled over 8 hours of usage time though.

BUT!

There was one thing I did different from one to the other: I had wifi on almost all day on the new 4S. Even now I have wifi on and I'm noticing that every 10 seconds or so, the phone is using the router for..... something.

All in all, my usage is increasing dramatically without me touching the phone.

Phantom usage for me comes from the phone routinely polling the wifi network every couple of seconds. No phantom usage if the phone solely on 3G with wifi disabled.

Is anyone else getting ticked off that apple still hasn't fixed this problem?

I've had the 4s since launch and I'm tired of hearing a fix is coming. I buy from apple as its a premium product supplier. I usually get treated so well, but they are really dragging on this one.

I'm getting increasingly annoyed.

Got my highest usage on standby today

1 day, 15 hours to go along with 6 hours, 10 minutes usage very impressed.

I am on the second 4s this week, seeing the same thing. Around 4-5 hours usage, 18 hours standby. Does not seem to matter if wifi is on, push, or location. The new phone routinely does not show the location signal at the top, even when I am using them. (Yes the setting is on).

right now im at 77% with 1hour 31 min usage, and 4hours 41 min standby.

iPhone 4 delivered 8 to 10 hours when on wi-fi, now it is 6hours with iPhone 4S (i do not have iCloud or Siri ON), definitely something not right ?

No?

What about Android Phones? I think iPhone 4S battery life is similar to Android

You guys. Facebook is the drainage app so good luck getting past six hours if you open that app during your day.

I'm getting ticked. I also remember the iOS 2.0 battery fiasco that went months then fixed 100%.

don't know what happened last night

went to bed with

5 hours usage
7 hours standby

with 50% left but woke up to

12 hours usage
15 hours standby

30% left

anybody else have this happen to them? i have decided to run it all the way down and see what happens when it is 100% charged and see if it goes back to normal.

this is the first time something like this has happened...had great usage normally.

I could use Facebook to look at my timeline but as soon as I opened a photo, the usage started to increase!
I have been trying other apps to see if I can get the usage to creep up again.

LOL do I get an award for the worst standby battery life? I haven't calibrated yet but went to bed with phone fully charged and in airplane mode. Woke up 8 hours later to 88%.....12% that's quite lame! Usage was 5 min and 7.5 hours of standby. At least I don't have phantom usage I guess

Whats funny is how difficult its been for the Apple Defenders to do their job of blindly defending Apple and putting the blame on end users.

Imagine IF we got some new slick design with a bigger screen and had these battery issues. People would immediately blame the hardware and say "See! They should've stuck to the original design because it just worked! All you people wanting a bigger screen are idiots!". But the reality is that they did stick to the old design and even after two entire months of waiting there is no solution and the defenders have no excuses left to use.

Personally, I love my iPhone and Ive gotten used to crippling my phone in order to get through a work day but Apple really needs to figure this thing out or start giving away free spare chargers.

Well after 2 days of experimenting with different Apps, the only App I have found that starts the Battery Drain is Facebook. Im still running IOS 5.0
Granted I haven't tried all my Apps yet, just the most frequently used ones!
I am now getting round about 2 days standby with everything on!

interesting, I will try tomorrow not launching the fb app and seeing. Ill turn it off, maybe delete the app as well, and see how it goes. I don't think this is it but its worth a shot.
