Batterygate??

That just says "hey, I never really use my phone"..

No that says, "hey I gave my phone a full charge before bed, unplugged it, let it sit beside me to use for an alarm clock and then woke up and went to work and in the time that I was awake out of the 13 hours of standby (5 hours) I was able to use my phone for one hour collectively".

Besides, I really don't use my phone more than 2-3 hours in a typical day. Maybe more if I have the day off. But honestly though, why does it matter?

I do the same thing. Charge my phone and when it's charged all the way keep it by my bed to use as an alarm clock.

You should count yourself lucky, though, that it's only at 86% after being on standby for 13 hours and an hour of usage. Mine is anywhere between 70%-80% after just sitting all night with no usage. Sometimes I'll lay in bed and surf and check email for 10-15 minutes or so before I get up and that will drain it to 60% so I throw it on the charger while I get ready and put it back on the car charger while I drive to work to get it to around 80%. That will last me until around noon as long as I'm not using it very much and just texting. I try and keep some juice for while I'm at lunch in case people need to call me or text me then I put it on the charger when I get back to work.

It's a drag. I find I spend more time not using my phone so it doesn't die than I do actually using it. It's basically just an emergency device in case I need to use it. It's ridiculous.

Could be due to bad reception, as i see in your screen, you seem to have a bad reception where you are and if the phone is trying to get signal from either edge or 3G at all times it's going to take a lot of battery.. the usage and standby time is OK, not good, but still OK depending if you played games for the usage time shown.

Well, I've noticed the same thing. Does the iPhone still have antenna issues? Because the last phone I had was OK with reception, almost always full. Or is it due to about 7 yrs old SIM, which was cut to micro SIM?

For those of you with battery issues, why did you not exchange your iPhone for another? Just curious. My coworker's iPhone is afflicted with batterygate as well, and I'm going to ask him why he never bothered to exchange his iPhone as well.

Probably because apple admitted its a problem with the software. They have not come out and said its a hardware fault.

Maybe slightly better than yesterday

Using push email through the new Gmail app instead of Microsoft Exchange improved my battery life dramatically!
I suggest that everybody tries this out. Though it should be noted that it is currently not possible to login with multiple accounts within the Gmail app.

Perhaps Microsoft's Exchange servers are (purposely) continuously contacting devices recognized as iPhones, creating an almost constant data stream, causing unusually high battery drainage. A strategic move by Microsoft to hurt Apple and gain marketshare in the smartphone market.

How long should it take to charge battery from 0% to full? My iPhone seems quite faster than it should be - about 2 hours.

I'm getting around the 6hr quoted time.

I'm also thinking about a battery case

No the antenna issue is not there anymore, because it will constantly try to have reception to either network, and in your case it can take more battery when it is in an area where it constantly shifts between both, however you shouldn't have dropped calls or such, this is however not unique to the iPhone that it will use more battery when trying to have constant connection when it is in such area..

The old sim card could be a cause to the phone switching a lot though, it's usually always better to have a sim card that is made for the purpose of use, if i where you i'd try to get a real micro sim!

This is me now. I have about 30 minutes left. Lots of Internet browsing.

Well, as I said, it shouldn't be problem in the area, but the reception is really changeable. Sometimes 1 comma, sometimes 5 commas.

Also I've noticed that it takes long to drop from 100% to 99% (not long, but compared to 99 to 98%) and when charging from 100%-charging to 100%-charged.

Always takes longer to discharge from 100-90 and to charge from 90-100... just takes a bit longer to top off and then start the process again. Think of going from 100-90 like the engine of a car warming up... Gonna take a little to get it going.

I think I can finally accept that I have good battery life.

Charged it to 100% before bed, unplugged, let it sit on my bedside (on airplane) and it was still at 100%, 8 hours later in the morning. Now of course its with airplane on, but still...

Pretty sure its from being calibrated.

Hey all. I got my iPhone 4S last Friday and not too sure if this is "good" battery life or not. Here's what it was last night. I have everything turned off that I've read about (iCloud, Siri, Location Services, Bluetooth, Notification, etc), my brightness turned down, my date & time's "Set Automatically" is off, etc. My iPhone is currently on 5.0.1, 9A405.

I know the standby time is a day but the usage is just from texting and phone calls. Had to charge it up last night as I needed it this morning, it reached only 91% when I woke up. Here's the battery life about an hour ago.

I just reset all my settings and I'm thinking of draining the battery all the way to calibrate it. What do you guys think? Any suggestions? Should I go and try the 9A406 update? Is this "good" battery life?

Just left the apple store with a new(refurb) see if this one is any better

I think you need to drain all the way down, until it shuts off, and charge up to 100%, do it even a few times. I got my 4S over a week ago, so it's relatively new, and it seemed bad at first, but after several discharge/charges the meter becomes accurate.

For instance, in the last screenshot you had 32 minutes use and 10 hours standby with 68% left?

I have currently 1 hour and 5 minutes use, and 14 hours standby with 83% left. And that's with phone calls/browsing/camera use/app use in that one hour that I used it.

I just got my iPhone on Christmas, so after reading through tons and tons of pages of posts I'm optimistic that my battery will get better over the course of the next couple of weeks (right now, sitting at 2hrs 42min of usage and 6hr and 45min of standby with 57% battery left, but I plugged it and decided against charging it and am just gonna try to do full cycles for a few more days).

I really hate that I plugged the phone in without letting it die when I first got it; I completely forgot I needed to run the battery down as I was quite excited at finally getting a smartphone, and I also had to call Sprint as it was having trouble activating and I was afraid it would actually die before I could get a customer service rep on another phone. Did anyone else not let theirs die the first time and have their battery life get better? I haven't really read too much about anyone doing that which kind of makes me worry.

I'm hoping I didn't completely screw myself over and have to live with this horrible battery life for 2 years (came from a dumbphone, so I'm use to having my phone be able to stay charged for days on end, lol; wasn't expecting that to happen, but was expecting a lot better battery life for sure)? I kept my last phone for 4 years and was expecting to do about the same with this one, so I hope it improves!

I haven't had a battery problem with my 4S since I got it at the launch in October. Goes two days with moderate texting, few voice calls and light surfing. I followed advice on the forums about optimum settings, leave location services on, and habitually close apps rather than leave them running in background.

I tried this. Same result. Battery didn't move from 79%. So no reason to exchange phone. Unless its a fault with the attenaes and apple has not said its hardware. They only said its software.

Remember Antennagate? Remember how Apple said it was just a software issue at first, and changed a couple of lines of code so three bars was really only 2 bars? They really should get their act together.

Well I'm pretty sure I had a bad phone previously. This is the usage so far today on my replacement I received yesterday... MUCH better! With about the same usage on the previous phone I was down to 20%

After reading all of the posts about how to save your battery life BEFORE I ever got my phone, I decided upon unboxing/setting up the phone to turn off location services for most all apps but one or two.

Just turned them on last night as a test. I have them on for 11 apps and so far, the impact on my battery has been nil.

2h 13min standby
8min usage
battery 100%

Switch on mobile network/3G and watch it drop 3%or more every 20minutes?

I just spent the entire day on a day-trip to the beach and unplugged my iPhone 4S @ 100% fully charged.
Throughout the day I took about 100 photos and 10 videos as well as 2 hours of gaming and 1 hour or so on 3G data browsing, and about 2 hours of listening to a podcast.

At one point in the trip I figured I wouldn't make it through the day, but surprisingly it came to just 24% when I got home.

While it isn't ideal, the battery life for me seems OK considering I was gaming and using the camera a lot.

Oh and on a side note, I turned off battery percentage indicator when I woke up so I wouldn't be constantly checking my battery life staring at that darn indicator!
