Yes indeed. I've been getting great battery life for turning the 3G off alone.

When you at you turn off other wireless do you mean WiFi? If you didn't know, there's a tweak called "depersistwifi". It turns off wifi when your device goes to sleep.

Yep, WIFI.

It looks like 3G has been draining the 4S after all :s

This is now my general usage since the Jailbreak and switching off 3G. I now use 3G like wireless and turn it on/off when I need it. I have pretty much everything else on. Push, location services, imessage, siri, push for apps, brightness about 70%.

Before the jailbreak I was getting about 4.5hrs usage and about 24hrs standby at the most.
What good are the bolded items, if you have data (3G) turned off?

I once had my battery drain by 30% overnight.

True. They want 4S owners a reason to upgrade to 5.. how? battery life!!

Well, I don't know about that. I really don't think Apple is evil enough to purposely produce a bug to give people a good reason to upgrade to the next iPhone. However, I do think they're arrogant enough and so sure of themselves to completely ignore their mistakes just because they can. And, so far, they have proven themselves right.

All of those things work perfectly well without 3G, just over edge, they don't 'need' 3G. If I need to browse the web, I turn it on and I'm laughing. Means I can use 3G when I want it and it's not just tearing through my battery in the background.

Also, in about 8hrs overnight my battery would lose about 10-15%. This morning when I got up it's still 100% with 3G off.

My iphone is finally doing and behaving like it's advertised to. With all the features turned on.

Is losing 10% (at 90%) bad after 1 hour of usage and 4 hours, 41 minutes of standby? In the hour of use I talked on the phone for about 30 minutes, did some light web browsing/Facebook and a few texts on iMessage. Is this good??

I have a 4S jailbroken, not too many add ons except SBSettings.

If you were to expand that out based on your current figures at 10% usage, you'd be looking around 10hrs usage and about 45hrs standby - that's very good.

Location services

I recently went to my local apple store about this problem and they replaced it pretty much immediately. They did tell me to go into location services > System services and turn on status bar icon, it turns out theres a bug in iOS 5 and "setting time zone" with that toggle turned on your location services are running ALL the time. Turning it off will help with the battery issues massively

As a matter of interest. How draining is being connected to my car Bluetooth on the iPhone? Not during a call, but idle connection.

Not much. I leave my house at 100% in the morning, travel 30 minutes to work in my truck, and am still at 100% when I park. Bluetooth connected the whole time.

This has been known for months now... Not calling you out, just trying to be the first to tell you cause there are people who would be wayyyyy harsher about it. But if you didn't know and it's helping you then thats awesome... turning it off didn't help mine as much as advertised, but good if it is for you.

I listen to 90+ minutes of music and web surf and Facebook with only a 5% drop in battery life. The biggest drop I see on battery is during longer phone calls.

I tried this last night, Still get phantom usage.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A406 Safari/7534.48.3)

When I make calls my signal strength suddenly goes to full. Not making calls it often sits at one or two bars.

I turned off 3G/data other than on wifi yesterday, and I noticed an absolutely drastic difference in battery life. It lost barely 10% overnight.

Yep, I'm positive it's 3G that's caused all these battery issues, or the vast majority. No wonder Apple are putting the 3G switch back in for the 5.1 update.

makes you wonder how the next iPhone will handle 4G. I hope they allow us to toggle 4G on/off since I probably won't care to use it all that much...

Doesn't surprise me that turning off 3g makes a huge difference but there's still a major problem somewhere. After all, the 3g usage times for the 4s are supposed to be greater than the 4 according to Apple advertising. My battery drains hugely whilst browsing via 3g whilst my 4 would drain about half as much. I really hope Apple figure this out for the next iteration of iOS but I do doubt it now. It's been more than 3 months now since release.

New owner of iPhone 4s on Sprint. Just switched from a HTC Evo. Is this considered good battery life? Compared to my Evo its heaven to me.

Can you explain this? Turn ON or turn OFF status bar icon? You said two different things.

Why would you turn ON status bar icon? I have it OFF right now. In fact, I have everything on that configuration page OFF.

The reason for turning on the status bar icon is so you can tell when your iPhone is using GPS (location) services. If the little arrow (pointing NE) is on the status bar, your phone is using location services. If you see that icon frequently, something is running that you may want to turn off.
