whilst on 4.3.3 last week i updated both "words with friends" and "hanging with friends" and noticed my battery drop horrendously almost immediately - something like 60%+ in about 18hrs with no use. took them off and i got back up to about around 10% drop in the same period.

now on 5.0.1, without those apps, and battery seems fine. about a 6% drop in the last 12hrs :)

it's possible that it was a random battery drain thing, it's happened to me before and i've read that other people have had the same thing and it can sometimes just last a day or so, but i think there are definitely some apps that cane the battery more that they should.

You can't even sign out of words with friends which makes it even worse. The stupid thing is always connected. How is this allowed?

This is on iOS 5.0.1 (the 9A405), with usage most of the time 3G. Came home, took picture and uploaded it (on wifi).

Didnt game at all. Mostly used for sms/phone/facebook/safari.

I dont know if its good or bad, but im fine with it. To compare it with the iPhone 4 (which I sold), the battery is 'worse' tho. :)

Hi guys

I changed 2 days ago my i4 for i4s and the first thing that i can say is that the battery seems to be a BIG sh..

Indeed every 4 minutes i lose 1% battery using safari with wifi and medium light parameters. I have to say that i followed tips to increase battery performance shown on several websites.

To me, in 6.66 hours of using safari the battery will be down. So bad !!

What do you think about it ?

Thanks

After disabling everything I could, I'm at 54% with 3h 40min of usage and 17 hours and 38 minutes of standy. Is that normal I'm using an iPhone 4S by the way.

My usage consists of web browsing watching a couple of YouTube videos, one or two phone calls and no gaming at all.

Was that mostly browsing with wifi or 3G ? What's your brightness setting at ?

crazy

Hey guys, since a lot of you are experiencing this problem, maybe try the solutions here. I tried the locations services one and that worked for me! I hope it can work for you too.

Are you serious? This thread has 3500+ posts, and you don't think this stuff has been mentioned before? Welcome to the world.

battery

It looks like its not just a 4s issue with the added Siri feature, but maybe more of an iOS 5 issue. I did notice my iPhone 4 with ios 5 loaded drained a bit faster.

Any iPhone 3GS, and 4 users with battery issues using ios 5?

There is a thread started on this over at Apple. It's gaining momentum:

:)hi M33 ive got a 3GS fone & ive got ios 5.01, & my battery drains at an alarming rate, & ive got everything switched off, & ive even changed my email delivery to only fetch, but it makes no difference, i partly blame the 3 company, as their sims are all 3G, so you can't switch it off, damn pain, lori

i'm gonna try a hard restore with new profile.
it seems to be the only way to find solutions.

it's been a long that i keep my profile

i'm just disappointed about reinstall everything ...

Real racing 2 has drained my full battery in 3 hours....

And??? Y'all crack me up. ITS A PHONE!!!!!

No longer a phone. Sorry that argument is for the 90's. It's a mini pocket computer that also happens to make phone calls.

Standby time: 300 hrs - iPhone 4
Standby time: 200 hrs - iPhone 4S

Now I understand a few lemons are there, and sorry for those who get it, but I really think a majority of the problems stem from this.

I could be wrong, it could be bad programming, but this could be the reason as well.

I just hope this isn't a sign of Apple letting their numbers slip or getting lazy. Specs should not be dropping at all! Makes me wonder why it really took 16 months for the next phone to release? Still, it's a great phone, but I pray this isn't the start of a bad trend. With quad core processors probably next, what might drop next?

The iPhone is no longer a phone? Who would have thought.

If you keep thinking of it as a phone you'll only think to the limitations of a phone and also everything else will just be add ons to a phone with all it's limitations and inherited problems. It's not the 90's things have changed. Think different.

Thing is who's getting anywhere near 200hrs standby?

This drop in standby time means nothing to most people. After all, we judge it on a day by day basis not whether it can sustain 200 hours of standby. In one day, the drop of standby makes very little difference. It is the usage figures Apple have quoted that are a lie. They quote even better usage on 3g etc and this is simply untrue.

Since ive jalibroken my 4s I can now turn off 3G and just use EDGE.
This has seen a dramatic improvement in my battery life

most people?

what if you use your phone for one hour a day and apple state X amount of hours for what your using. But then the standby drain is such that you cant get through the next day. Is that acceptable?

If you're using your iPhone for one hour a day then what's the point of having a smartphone? 99% of people will be using it for more than 1 hour. Secondly, it's not the standby time that people are moaning about, it's usage time. Usage time Apple are quoting is way off.

From where I'm sat they're complaining about both. The one hour was just an example. And to say they don't need it if they only use it for an hour is silly. What if they move between iPad iPhone mac but find when they pick up the iPhone its nearly dead.
