does anybody get this weird problem when your iPhone is 59% then suddenly it just drops 3% in like less than 2 minutes to 56%? and it was idle until i pick it up check the time run some apps then poof! 56% instantly...mind you i have also done a calibration nothing seems to be working =(

i seem to be getting that on mine and i just set up my phone as new because of this battery issue...i have the phone for almost 3 months now

It's definitely an App issue rather than a simply an iOS issue.

I rang Apple customer services to complain about the poor battery life and they offered to replace the phone but first they said to wipe the phone and set it up as a new handset without any Apps on it and test it for a day or two.

The results...well it's gone from loosing 30-40% of battery life whilst on standby overnight and only lasting about 18 hours in total before needing to be recharged to only loosing about 4-5% overnight and it's now been going for 1 day & 13 hours and is still showing 63% battery life remaining!!

So my next step is to slowly reactivate features one by one and keep testing to find out which 'feature' or App it is that was killing my phone before hand.

I'm hoping it's just one or two different Apps rather than say the 'Push' email feature as Apps I can live without but not my email...

I have some new usage numbers that are bugging me.

Im getting way longer battery life on wifi than I am on 3G. Isn't that backwards?

Here is wifi:

Here is 3G:

Also, I'm noticing that if you have a really low signal, the phone battery life just drops drastically. Is finding a signal really THAT taxing on the phone?

this is good correct? Seems weird because my batt life has been worse after the update, but in the last week or so its been better. Which I dont understand since there hasnt been a subsequent update. Im new here btw

3G's the culprit

Mine has been losing pretty much 1.5-2% an hour whilst I've not been using it. This is after having the phone replaced, turning everything off etc.

Last night I jailbroke it and turned 3G off, kept push on, kept location services on, siri, imessage etc and overnight it lost 1%

For me, it's defo 3G that's zapping it. Turning that off and keeping everything else has massively improved mine. It's currently running at 88% battery, 2hr 2mins usage 16hrs 13mins standby.

Who is your carrier?

Vodafone UK.

I normally have 4-5 bars of signal where I live/work

Well I'm with O2 UK and where I work I have full 3G signal (4-5 bars) but at home no 3G at all and either a couple of bars of Edge or just 3-4 bars of 2G and I'm not getting any more drain now that my phone has been completely reset and I haven't put any Apps back on so it's definitely not to do with the phone constantly looking for a 3G signal.

It's either Apps, Push Mail or a location service...

I'd jailbreak it, turn off 3G, and see how it does then. If you don't want the jailbreak on or it doesn't improve it then you can do a restore and remove the JB.

 Not sure what your referring to mate but as I've posted I don't have any problems related to my 3G signal. As in it's not the 3G that's been causing my battery drain (hence why my battery is lasting just fine now with 3G enabled) it's either my Apps, Push or Location services (or a combination of).

Or, possibly an issue with you using apps. I don't know. Me just wiping my iPhone and not loading any apps on it would likely fix any battery leak I had because I wouldn't have any apps left to fart around on all day.

It would have been interesting if you also tested your battery life, with all your apps still on the phone, but without using any of them.

In unrelated news, unfortunately, my theory is proving painfully true. Apple never intended to release any "battery fix" except for the one that will be installed on next year's iPhone (and that placebo aka 5.0.1). Notice how the volume of people having battery problems has been reduced to a small whimper. This is just human nature and Apple plays this game so very well. They just treated the battery problem with some Tincture of Time. They knew people would become complacent over time or just - likely unknowingly - adjust their lifestyle to the phone's battery life. They did the same with the flawed antenna. We all adjusted to that eventually. We all learned to "just don't hold it that way."

to share my experience : i restored today my i4s after 2 weeks of draining battery.

When you restore with new profile it increases the life battery. I have a best battery life right now.

I think that the problems come from old backup ...

Juste an advice don't keep nothing, don't SSH nothing and start from a brand new install.

see ya

Where exactly do I state that I didn't test my battery life without using my Apps? It would be a bit of ridiculous comparison if I were comparing the battery life of a phone where I'm sat constantly using my apps to one where it's sat motionless and unused....

I know it is App related because in direct comparison (i.e. same time period, same usage) my phone is losing 5-10% battery life without Apps installed or Push functionality or Location services running where as with those it was losing 40-50% battery life even when in standby.

I hope that's clear enough for you.

Or people are waiting on a fix because apple said it was software and they are going to fix it. If they don't are you going to accept it or return your phone? If its not upto advertised specs and they don't fix an issue they admitted exists then why not return it?

Apple would have a boat load of returns and you'd get the next iPhone. Maybe that's why people are quite. They are trusting apple to fix it before deciding enough waiting refund time.

My emails pushing when set to fetch hourly. Wonder what else is goin on under the hood. started yesterday

Jailbreak

This is now my general usage since the Jailbreak and switching off 3G. I now use 3G like wireless and turn it on/off when I need it. I have pretty much everything else on. Push, location services, imessage, siri, push for apps, brightness about 70%.

Before the jailbreak I was getting about 4.5hrs usage and about 24hrs standby at the most.

Yes indeed. I've been getting great battery life for turning the 3G off alone.

When you at you turn off other wireless do you mean WiFi? If you didn't know, there's a tweak called "depersistwifi". It turns off wifi when your device goes to sleep.

I once had my battery drain by 30% overnight.

Ive gotten well over 8hrs usage and 1-2 days standby myself. But a majority of that time was spent in airplane mode. There is ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE this can be accomplished under normal usage. In fact, it cannot be accomplished under light usage. With that said, very impressive.
