I'm at 34%

Usage: 3 Hours, 35 Minutes
Standby: 6 Hours, 57 Minutes

Just some RSS, Facebook, Twitter and about 10 texts.

And about 20 minutes of tiger woods multiplayer over bluetooth.

Only thing I can think of is currently my signal is constantly switching between really low 3G and 'o'..... On my 3GS I could just turn off 3G but that option has been taken away on the 4s for some reason, so that isn't helping my battery.

My icloud account is inactive but my battery is draining really quick. I noticed that syncing calendar, notes with yahoo is draining battery fast.
Usage - 2 hrs
Standby - 8 Hours, 29 minutes
66% remaining.

I streamed music for 30 mins and played with siri for a minute. Already calibrated the battery last night. Is my battery bad?

Just wanted to thank you guys who suggested to do a restore via iTunes and let it download iOS5 and install fresh.

Being my first iPhone, I wasn't sure what to expect with battery life, but I knew that the drain was a little abnormal when it was standby or on light usage.

So I did the restore at 2am last night and woke up today at 8am and here's my results. Now I can finally stop worrying about this damn Batterygate. Hope you guys try this as well. Takes a few seconds and you have nothing to lose.

So I have been an active reader of this thread since it started, and tried many many things that have been suggested with no solid results. So I've been waiting for this software update from Apple hoping this will fix it.

Well I have good and bad news to report. I just got a call from an Apple Engineer out of the blue. They got my contact info because I posted on a similar thread on Apples discussion boards. They had a series of questions to ask me for my profile that took 15 minutes.

They have now sent me a special application that is logging the battery details they need reported on my device. This is looking across all apps, email, etc...they want me to get the phone charged up to 100% and then let this actively log for 48 hours. Then I need to send them the file after a sync to my computer.

So the good news is that they are actively working on resolving the issues people are having. They are taking it as a urgent top priority I was told.

Bad news is that across all the people they have worked with so far they have been unable to pinpoint what the problem is to provide a fix. So I fear this might take longer than people were thinking to get resolved. But Apple is on it, which is great news and for all the people doing the drain to zero on the battery and recharge. He says there is no need to do that and this wont help. If that did help someone then they have something else going on with the phone.

Keep us posted. I'd bet money your problems will return, as it's a software issue with iOS 5.

I just brought my phone to a genius bar. Two of the Genius' there said they both had battery issues as well. They are also waiting for some kind of update from apple. My phone had a TON of app crashes on it. They did i clean restore on my phone. Going to see if this helps with the battery or app crashes.

I had the issue at first. Then i turned off a lot of the location services and that seemed to fix it. I now get the same battery life, if not better, that I did with my iPhone 4. It pissed me off at first, because, with the bad battery life, it was like a downgrade. Glad it is working fine now.

Guys. It's Facebook. That's what's causing this battery drain. Even with location turned off for Facebook, it seems that the app is collecting information against the user's will, and relaying it to facebook

Check out this discussion thread from the apple support forums.

Removing Facebook fixed the problem for me. Wow.

It actually pisses me off that Facebook somehow managed to do this >:[]

Out of the three 4S's on my account, the only person with Facebook on it is the only getting good battery life. So, that's not it.

Darn... :/ okay...

Hmm... what else could it be?!!?!?!

Agh, this is so frustrating, I actually need to be able to make phone calls during the day. :(

This sounds fishy. Are you sure it's not some random dude that wants to put malware or some fishing scheme on your phone?

Yesterday was my first day using my phone on what I will call a normal usage pattern.

I got about 8 hours of "usage," about 5 hours of playing music, and about 1 hour surfing the web, 40 minutes of games, and 10-20 of siri, and a few texts, emails, facebook.

My phone was off the charger from about 930a and dropped to 5% at about 10 or 11 last night. I decided that was pretty acceptable, but less thane expected.

I need to keep testing, as this morning, I went to sleep at 4a with 100% charged phone. I got up at about 7, sent and red a few emails, updated some reminders, and now at 1015 I am down to 80%. I have used it for about 10-15 minutes total. Usage rates at 1:22. I do have push for my emails, but i just changed most accounts to fetch, noticing the suggestions

Yes I believe legit, he was very knowledgeable and gave me hints and tips on certain things your average person wouldn't know that isn't developing the software. In addition I have his contact details and the phone # i called him back on rings into Apple main head quarters. I'm usually pretty cautious about these things and he had to read me a disclaimer before hand too that I had to agree to. That covered what kinds of personally identifiable information would be transfered to them on me, my device, and the apps. Plus the app I installed is all signed by Apple. That isn't easy to spoof seeing as Apple controls all the apps and how they get installed.

I did actually wonder if it was facebook. There's something about the app that my phone doesn't like. It either crashes on opening, or lags while updating.

Apple has been calling select people who've posted on the Apple site discussion forums. Several over there have mentioned receiving phone calls from engineering/tech support in the past couple of days. Some of them have received software to install and track their usage, some have just gone through a rundown of their settings with tech support.

Had phone replaced at genius bar on Saturday. Same problem with replacement.

I'm not impressed at the moment.

That is simply god awful battery life :(

Playing music with the screen off bump's up the "usage" stats but accounts for almost no drain (compared to having the screen on surfing the web) ... So you basically got about 2 - 3 hours of real usage =/

I had mine replaced over the weekend after experiencing issues and no issues. My wife had the phone from day1 and no issues. Just my experience

I think I have just found a clue to what might be draining my battery. For the past 50 minutes the Location Service "Setting Time Zone" has been using my location nonstop. It has a blue arrow next to it and is the only location service currently with a blue arrow. If I turn it off for a minute and then back on, it turns blue right away. Turning the phone on and off still doesn't get it to stop. I've seen 7 % points drop on my battery during this time. Why would it take 50 minutes to set the time zone, maybe this is happening at night and killing my battery? That location service is now turned off permanently.

I think it's becoming clear that as other people have mentioned this is a software and not a hardware problem so taking your phone to Apple to be replaced is sadly not going to fix the problem. Let's hope they put out a software update that addresses whatever the culprit is ASAP...

what's the average usage should we expect for a full charge? 6 hours? or 9 hours? or more?

I did the battery drain last night...and now...1.5 hours with a 75% reading...not sure if that's good or not...

I came upon this thread when it first appeared and of course has some worries about the potential problems. So I have been tracking my time every sense. It appears to me at least that you have to give the battery some full cycles before its full potential is reached.

Here are some screen shots of my battery
1st Full Cycle

2nd Full Cycle

Start of 3rd Cycle

And currently I am on my forth charge (not from a full cycle) and at 38% left: ~3.25hours of usage and 1 day 19hours standby. I restarted my iphone so I am just questimating those time since they reset on a restart.

So, at least in my situation the phone is only getting better. I have icloud on and have never resetted my emails since syncing over from my previous phone. Anyway, hopefully thats helpful to someone.

6 hours of continuous browsing the web on 3G
9 hours of continuous browsing the web on WiFi

If you play music with the screen off that will F-up your usage stats and make it seem like you are getting more battery life than you actually are...

I did actually wonder if it was facebook. There's something about the app that my phone doesn't like. It either crashes on opening, or lags while updating.

I was wondering the same thing to, simply for the fact facebook kept sending me random notifications for games I haven't played for years now. I actually deleted these games months ago, and turned off all push notifications for facebook, yet I still get them. So I signed off of facebook by opening the app, going to account>log off. Since I started doing this Friday evening, I made it through the remainder of Friday, and the entire day Saturday, so almost 2 full days of standby time, around 7 hours usage if I remember correctly. Put it on the charge last night and I took it off the charge at 9 am this morning, and with heavy usage, still have 82% left.
