But Apple doesn't have a monopoly on the mobile marketplace. Android is far more widely used.

There's no point in comparing iOS versus Android, because Android can be used by any company... that extends its market a lot.

Being Apple nearly a 30% market share, it could be considered a "extremely big company" instead of a "monopoly"... anyway, it would be a great idea to give the majority of apps from the App Store as "initial apps" (just like they do with Pages, Keynote, etc. these days). Opening the App Store for the first time lets you to download all the apps or some of them.

Oh man, another app I'll have to move into a folder and never see or think of again. FML!!! God help us!

I use the Newsstand app all the time on my iPad. The iPhone screen is too small to read magazines so yes it would be handy if you could delete it.

You guys like to cry about everything, if anything, my guess is that this app will be like Keynote, Numbers and Pages that comes pre-intalled in high capacity iDevices, you can delete them if you don't want them.

This. Although they have a right to complain, I doubt it will be an un-deletable app because Beats isn't available in all countries.

whoever is in charge of iTunes/Beats/iTunes Radio at Apple is grasping at straws. the money isn't in single track downloads or $2.99/month. make it all free and make your money back in concerts. they're giving it all away on youtube anyway.

have you seen ticket prices lately - i just got 2 tickets to see ryan adams, an artist barely above independent status and definitely not a radio star or commercial success - $60 each for the tickets. $60! in 1989 i paid $32 each for rolling stones tickets when their CD cost $15.99.

it's time for apple to buy live nation. talk about vertical integration.

I reckon this means we won't be seeing iTunes Radio spread abroad, or if we do it will be when Beats is ready to spread abroad and iTunes Radio will be the free version, while Beats replaces the paid version.

The question is, will Beats be free to iTunes Match subscribers?

People hate bloatware. Why not incorporate the Beats formula into Apple radio or better yet, a new service with a brand new name, include that with ios, and let it catch on based on its own merits. Did they learn nothing from the U2 album?

iOS 9 Wishlist: 1) Hide useless stock apps like on Apple TV currently 2) Customize Control Center 3) Make Album view in the Music app esp. On the iPhone 6 Plus optional since it could be much more useful with the standard menu

you can already have album view:

in music, click on more (lower right), then edit (upper right) and drag the icons in that you want.

i love album view.

Similar to MS bundling IE with Windows to drive out competition.

This is a valid concern to raise. As a savvy user who knows better applications (Spotify) exist, I wasn't concerned initially since I would just delete it or put it in my folder of apps I don't use. But if not enough people know Spotify exists / use it, then Spotify could collapse, which would force me into using Beats.

I hope so considering that the Beats service & iTunes Radio are under one division. Would be the best way to go. That and expanding it to way more countries.

Beats music has no brand cache like Beats by Dre or iTunes does. If Apple doesn't combine Beats music into iTunes and just makes it a stand alone app you can't delete that will be really stupid.

I'd be happy to use this, but as a Canadian, I really think that I'll be waiting a while. Or maybe this will finally signal the end of my wait?

Given my space woes on my iPhone, I'd actually love a decent streaming solution that ALSO took into account my already present music library. iTunes Match would work well enough if it weren't so unusably broken. :p

Beats music has zero mind share. Apple would be stupid to keep it. Merge it with iTunes. I'm not worried about Spotify. The music app on iOS can't be deleted yet I hardly ever use it as I'm a Spotify subscriber.

does the icon bother you that much ????? i really don't understand some people on here. Ive never tried beats and I'm willing to give it a try, if not then hey who cares.

STOP WHINING

The Icon isn't such a big deal, you can always hide it away (although the option to completely remove it so you don't have to have a folder for hidden away stuff would be an improvement), the problem for me is apps that use it.

It just spoils the experience of using an app for me - opening the app is now twice as many steps, but more importantly, returning to the home screen now takes two presses of the button, the only time that's true in the whole OS, so it's a major inconsistency.

For those that aren't aware, you can disable the Podcasts and iBooks icons from within Restrictions in the settings app.

Doesn't solve the problem but might make it mildly less annoying.

Tips.app on the other hand can burn.

Newsstand, no
But Newsstand AND Game Center AND Reminders AND Maps AND Videos AND Find Phone AND Contacts AND iTunes Store AND Podcasts AND Tips AND Photobooth do annoy me. I have one folder just called Unneeded Crap. I wish I could just hide these apps. Better yet how about letting me delete them to free up space and re-download them if I need them someday.

The day Apple bought Beats was the day Apple jumped the shark and the day it became obvious that Apple mgt cared not a wit about the company. Witness that Beats was $3bil and Google soon after bought Songza, a superior curation service, for $30mil.

It is not a matter now of whether Apple will come crashing down, just when.

If any of you actually read the article it said that beats will be most likely rebranded under the iTunes umbrella. So logically that would be part of itunes radio and its own app.

READ PEOPLE. This is why there is link bait. Because people don't read the whole damn article.
