Is it just me asking this question: why did Apple buy this tacky product? o_O

I kinda agree. At least they've kept it a separate brand. Different demographic/emphasis. I've never heard Beat phones but I've been told they're that popular scooped-midrage/exaggerated bass kinda sound. Some people like that.

Audio is like screens in that regard. People say they like natural, but really just like exaggerated.

I love grados and hifiman. Those 2 brands have really been shaking things up lately.
Grados aren't new by any means. They were relatively unknown for many years because of the cost barrier. Hifiman is a company I wrote off years ago until I tried them in stores. Very high quality. Great sound. The support and modding community isn't as strong. I'll give them another 5-10 years before I invest in their products. Solid build, quality components and beautiful packaging. I think the ones I've tested were over $700-900 so a little too steep for a daily can.

These colours look cheap, and tacky, targeted towards children. My god Apple what are doing? There are many good headphones from Sony, Bowers & Wilkins, Panasonic even, to name just three. I think Apple paid over the odds for this company. Just like Microsoft does when it buys out all the other companies it has bought over the years. Nokia in particular.
I like them and I am not a child :)

If you are looking for sport headphones, try Jabra Elite Sport. It's like Airpods, but better in every single way. It also has features that Airpods don't: waterproof + heartbeat sensor that works MUCH better compared to AW built-in sensor.

It's weird they use USB-B. Apple products are SO fragmented now.

Some products use USB-C, others Lightening, these headphones, USB-B. 3 types of connectors!! Good Job Tim.. that is some good product integration and ecosystem management. When does Tim retire?

Who's buying the same headphones over and over again in new colors?

I guess some people do that. You buy a fancy new pair of headphones and give the old pair to one of your siblings, or sell it on ebay.
That's something I do with hardware, but only when I upgrade to something new and I don't change a product solely for a new design/color.

Lov the colors. Beats its just top notch quality. Better than B&O and many others. Only with Dr Dre you can hear the deep bass sound. I just wish they add a display on the sides that shows the album’s cover and random photos from my instagram there. That would be cool.

Build quality is really good, as for sound I think you can find better products but it really depends on the music you listen. You like bass, Beats are for you.
I own a pair of BeatsX and I think they're great but I mostly listen to podcasts and I find music to be good but not really great. I bought them because of W1 and sound isolation, they're way better than AirPods at it. And I bought them at discount, I'd say their full price is too high

Yay!
Headphones in new colours!
Watchstraps in new colours!
macOS in new colours (assuming 50 shades of grey count as colours)!
Emojis in new colours!
Best! WWDC! Ever!

Yup. Most people have really never heard "natural", and I don't mean flat like sterile studio monitors, just a decent representation of frequencies. Takes good components to handle mid range detail. Cheaper and easier to pump the bass and treble for the wow factor.

Not only that, but it takes good music. You’re not going to get a lot of dynamic range out of streaming music pretty much regardless of what headphones you use.

I would recommend the HE-400i. They can be found for as low as 200-250. The packaging and sound quality are amazing to say the least, especially for the price. I purchased a set about 2 years ago, and sold my Sennheiser hd650's because they were almost a night and day difference. As long as you have a good dac and amp, you should be good to go. It's hard to go back to a standard driver after using planar magnetic drivers. Now if only they existent in car audio....!

Thank you for the info. It does appear their products have been on sale through MassDrop group-buys several times. I'm subscribed to multiple drop categories but rarely visit the site or open their emails. They've got the HE-350 up for grabs right now at $99.99 USD with a June ship date. How are those? They've got some other cans and audio equipment that looks mighty enticing.

Funny Beats actually made money ,while Nokia flopped.

Port fragmentation is one thing, but most importantly you don't see Apple logo with each Beats ads, and products. I don't know man, $3billions is a lot of money. I'd want my name on each of Beats materials for that price. I love my BeatsX though. It's currently the only one Beats headphone that has Lightning port, and it sounds much better than Airpods too. Yep, a great compliment coming from Beats.
