I think they'd have a limited appeal.
I'm still convinced one of the problems that held back the iPhone 5c was they only came in 'girl' colours.
Whenever that is, it will be too soon. He's doing a fantastic job, evidenced by the tens/hundreds of millions of Apple customers who repeatedly open their wallets paying premium prices for Apple's excellent products. Year after year after year.
Expect an Apple downturn and some product line chaos when he does retire.

Imagine the epic MR whinefest should Apple all of a sudden convert to a single connector, leaving all those owning various Apple products with the "wrong" connector saying the same thing: Good job, Tim. Wah...
It's obvious now that Siri is in charge of running Apple. Tim and the gang are on some extended vacay in a sweat lodge.
I don't know, I wouldn't be surprised if these turn out to be a huge hit.
I'm older myself but I can see the appeal with the younger audience and I suspect that younger audience doesn't really come here to MR so its understandable to a degree that some folks don't like it
There are significantly better headphones for less ie Sennheiser.

Why did Apple buy Beats?
Apple screwed over record companies with iTunes licensing in the early 00's which simultaneously saved the record industry from pirating while sucking slightly less money from their pockets. When streaming became a thing, they either refused to come to the table with Apple or tried to price gouge them as payback. Beats, however, had all their licensing deals in place. So....Apple bought Beats music, rebranded to Apple Music, and now they are closing in on Spotify slowly but surely. Also, Beats is a lifestyle brand that generates money hand over fist without apple having to do anything.

No they aren't. You personally don't like them and would prefer things that are less 'loud' and more traditional. That's fine. That's your preference and you clearly aren't the target market anymore than the beef industry is targeting vegans. BUT, these will likely sell like fire because a TON of people (who AREN'T you) do, in fact, like this stuff.
Other headphones are better.
Other headphones are built better. Other headphones have different sound signatures. Other headphones have different features. However, people like beats because of the status symbol aspect and the fact that they faithfully reproduce R&B and hip hop the way producers meant for them to sound. Beats buyers aren't often listening to Tchaikovsky and "A Love Supreme" in 24/96 high res FLAC formats. They're listening to the hot new album from Rhianna and Young Thug, and these make that genre sound good. So, B&W or Grado or Sennheiser might be "better" (which you really mean to say "more accurate representation of most types of music"), but the bass doesn't thump and so that's that ♂️ Like most things Apple releases to the public, Macforums members are NOT the target audience because many of us sit on the fringe of popular society in our interests. While you guys are making jokes about how stupid these are, Apple is making more money because this fits everybody else's aesthetic preferences.

Actually, I don't mind color options in a product like this. I'm not a Beats wearer myself (nor do I plan to be), but as long as the color isn't the main reason why people buy these... then what do I care?

I mean, imagine a super cool headphone, colorful and top quality like thiz with two big screens at the sides where everyone can c the artist album u r playing (lamar, lil wayne, gambino thiz is America, luis fonzi despacito, etc AND also, all your selfies with more likes with random filters and color things, flashing lights, etc. That’ll be just amazing. I will buy no matter the price. Just make sure the thing looks great and expensive so all females note who is da boss you know what i mean??

These hideous colours a-side, I tried the Beats X and was properly blown away, they're my go to headphones for day to day listening.. they are crystal clear, even at really high volumes.. the bass is deep and piercing and the highs sit nicely over the top, theres no muffling or overpowering bass.. I DJ'd for 10 years and went through some pretty good reference monitor headphones from Pioneer and Sennheiser, they sound good, but I prefer the Beats X.
I loved them so much I bought the Solo 3 wireless for a more comfortable listen and admittedly they don't sound quite as nice... they're still powerful and have a great low end but lacking on the highs. They aren't quite as punchy.
I'm not sure if thats a benefit of the BeatsX being in-ear , they are the first in-ear I have owned, but they're better than the Solo 3.

Odd that Apple is able/willing to make the Beats headphones in colors—multicolors no less. Yet they make the Airpods in white only despite a vocal request for black ones.

Unlike all the companies Microsoft bought over the years, Beats actually has serious margins and makes billions in profit.
You should quote world wide sales of Android devices, Apple's market share in the world vs USA (one of Apple's last places that is still has leadership). Also, you should quote Microsoft's sky rocketing revenue.
I say if Craig or a monkey been in charge of Apple, Apple's market cap and revenue would be higher

My original thought is that if it's going to be that big on the ear, that size device should be a "true" wireless, like the AirPods.
I have a set and I much prefer the wire. It causes no issues and means I don’t lose them, can hang them around my neck at the end of a run etc.
Fair enough, but to me, given their bulk and ear hook, you'd think they'd not do that. But you bring up a good point.
