Yes, this isn't great. I find I have to press the button about half a second to reliably turn them on (and then there is another delay until the LED lights up and the sound plays). But if you keep it pressed just a little bit too long, the earphones go into pairing mode. They should extend the time for pairing to 5s or something, and shorten the time for turning them on. Perhaps they could do it via a firmware update?

Yes happens to me especially when I'm trying to turn them on to answer a call. Very frustrating when it goes into pairing mode and I have to turn them off and back on.

FYI ... I took my first flight post AirPods ... and Sound is amazing ... while it does not block out the ambient noise, the music and sound is loud enough to be comfortable during the flight. I still have my Beats X on order for the noise isolation and more active activities, and again, my Bose QC 35's for those long trips/extreme comfort... but for the ones debating and reading posts, AirPods are impressive. They work great on flights, block out fair noise.

I also went from 7:15am - 12:30pm and had about 39% left .... after 6 minutes back in the case, charged them up to 79% and another 5 minutes were back up to 97% before I put them back on ... so charging is super quick ... and to add, they do not hurt my ears or have not come loose while connecting flights, resting head on window, etc ...

I know as others are debating what to get, these are the questions I have asked previously, and wanted to provide some perspective, especially for the travelers out there ....

Well, I tried the Airpods on a flight too and I have to disagree. I was trying to listen to an audiobook and had to crank them up to 100% to even understand the narrator. They provide no noise isolation at all. Perhaps it's good enough for loud music, but I'd never use these for watching movies or listening to spoken word content on a plane.

I agree with you about AirPods on a plane. Music - fine. Video and spoken word - struggle to overcome surrounding noise.

There is no worse headphone for plane travel than the airpods.

How do i set it so that when I'm connected and i get a phone it goes directly thru the beats, rather than defaulting to iPhone first and then I have to switch over after I've already picked up? #FirstWorldProblems

You click the middle button on the headphones to answer with the phones. It's rather annoying, doesn't always work...

Ill try an audiobook on the way back Friday and report back, music was not even at 100%. Again, I don't think they are ideal and getting beats x for more of that isolation ... but impressed with what I got from the AirPods today ...

If I had to go with only one pair, it would be BeatsX. The AirPods are great in a quiet environment and for a day of teleconferencing, but the BeatsX have great isolation, making them much more useable commuting, at the coffeeshop, etc. For instance, on my commute, the AirPods were unusable on the train.

As for sound quality, the AirPods are more neutral, while the BeatsX do have a pronounced V that took me a while to get used to. Either the Beats broke in some or I adapted, because I find both now pleasant, though different. The BeatsX rock for rock, the AirPods are much better for jazz and acoustic, as the Beats have some pretty recessed mids. I find neither sound signature fatiguing and the Beats allow you to listen at much lower volumes, which is important to your health.

BeatsX Grey and Blue are landing in Apple Stores right now. Mostly Europe but NY has been hit too.

The Black and White are now available in more countries (mostly european countries without apple stores, Portugal, Ireland, Scandinavia, etc.)

Sure there is... those dirty headphones in the seatback pocket the airline gives you... haha just kidding, seriously, whoever says AirPods are even remotely adequate for airplane listening is just justifying their purchase to themselves. They're literally the worst headphones EVER for use on a plane.

In a side note, got my Beats X... LOVE LOVE LOVE them. Love the noise isolation, love the battery life, love they charge with lightning. My new favorite earbuds!

I just got mine and all in all I like them. I just wonder if the air pods would have been a better fit for me. The cable on the BeatsX doesn't provide as much escape from being tethered as I thought.

easy way to tell, put in your normal wired ones that came with your phone, how do they fit?

Got my Beats X last weekend. Had a 6.5 hour flight yesterday. LOVE LOVE LOVE my Beats X. The Airpods are great for home\office use as a headset for phone calls and in absolute quiet environments, but the Beats X kills it for airplane\noise isolating situations. Not sure who complains about the cable being too long, it it was any shorter it'd tickle the back of my neck\collar which is my annoyance with the Jaybirds X3

Finally, the first pair of wireless earbud headphones I can call nearly perfect.

If you travel by air a lot like me, Beats X are STELLAR!

Did the battery last the whole time? Did your ears get sore? Do you use rubber inserts or some other tips (comply)? If you had to nitpick what would it be?

I wound up purchasing the 400's based on comments I read here before Comply updated their site (DOH!) I received them on Saturday and they are a perfect fit... so I'm curious what the true differences are between the 400 and 500s.

Sealos
I have the Comply 400 as well, was using them on my Beats Tour 2.0, and they are really tough to take off on the BeatsX whereas they slide off on the Beats Tour 2.0. Just a heads up. Ordering the 500s next time.

Yeah 6 hours of actual listening and battery was down to about 40% when done, no issue there. I used the large size silicon tips that came with them (I'm used to Sennheiser C300 which are nearly identical in design). No soreness whatsoever. The seal on the large size for my big dumbo ears was perfect, kept the outside noise out and the perfect seal was just right to product significant bass, and nice overall sound.

To nitpick, the peeve I have is a couple things. My only real nitpick is the case. That thing is annoying as hell. Literally, I YouTube'd how to put them into the case (believe it or not there are several videos). It's horrible execution. The shape\design of the earbuds when folded\curved make the case a really sloppy add-on they must have thrown in last minute. I'm going to use the case that came with my JayBirds X3 for them, it's so much more function than the condom Beats puts into the box. I guess it's not a major gripe though since on my sennheisers I don't put them in a case haha.

I picked up a grey set yesterday. Even though the Apple website did not show stock for my local store they had all Beats X except for white and as well Airpods there if you asked for them.

I have already been using the Airpods since day one and I feel they are great as long as you fit them.

My take on the BeatsX is that they have that trademark low EQ Beats sound and a bit of an unfortunate cloudy treble. The Airpods are a cleaner and more accurate sound, but the Airpods are not going to give you 50hz. The sound quality of even the cheapest RHA buds blows the BeatsX away IMHO. The instant on of the Airpods and the general operation of the Airpods is a lot better, except for no inline volume. But as BeatsX gives you inline volume they also give you a reading glasses lanyard look. If you are primarily using these for phone calls then it's Airpods hands down.

It really sort of boils down to whether or not you are a person who wants open or closed earphones. I would hope that there are eventually closed Airpods with a cleaner sound.

Just got the Comply 500 isolation today and they are awesome. Completely isolates all sound. Much better than the ones that come with the BeatsX.
