This is a hilarious use of "burden". First world problems!

What’s a better word? Annoyance? It is 100% a burden.

Am I supposed to sit and be happy with what I have, and not say anything to question the Apple overlords?

What if Apple just said “we’re not gonna add new software features anymore.” Would you be bothered by that, despite it being a “first world problem”?

I might have missed something here, but doesn't that force the video to go through SMS? I genuinely don't know because I only go from Android to iPhone where sending a video results in a postage size stamp of pretty much nothing the resolution is so low.
Only if you use the Messages app. There are a multitude of other options.

its amazing how everyone in the world has been doing this for decades already only the usa finds it difficult

Again with this incredibly idiotic argument, it just bothers me every time I see the same nonsense. I'll tell you what, get on an airplane and please take over the job of getting hundreds of contacts on my phone, business associates, friends, family, businesses, etc., ALL to switch over to an app, then convince them to use that app only in dealing with any communication only with myself.

We all GET IT, the EU has evolved differently and evolved to have 3rd party apps be popular. Unfortunately in the US it's a different story, so stop trying to apply your paradigm to my paradigm, it just doesn't work.

you know venmo only exists in the usa, it only work with us residents they are obviously not as big as you think.
Ok?? It was just an example — it’s the go-to payment app for everybody I know. Anybody who uses Apple Cash uses it secondary to Venmo.

Doesn’t mean that adding iMessage and Apple Cash to Android, suddenly turns iOS into Android.

again with your usa centric idiotic argument you literally lock yourself in because people are too lazy to actually do anything about it, then they complain when they have all the options available but don't want to use them

I mean, in my opinion, complaining about an issue that they already agreed to fix that already has dozens of alternative solutions seems pretty ridiculous.

So, the complaints were valid before Apple announced support for iOS?

If people are still complaining about it, then it doesn’t really fix the main issue. I hope RCS lives up to its promise.

Again, you aren't wrong in the least on paper, it's just in practice it's not a great solution trying to get all your contacts to download a separate app or apps.
Just tell your grandma to download WhatsApp if you want to send her a video.

I fail to see how this isn’t a viable solution.

Again, go ahead and manage getting the hundreds of contacts I have to download, trust their privacy, manage, and use only to communicate with me. You can call me lazy all you want, but the reality is that time is money and I'd rather spend my time, IF I could even accomplish such a task, doing other things. But the reality is that I could NEVER get all those contacts to switch over. Your lazy argument, while true on paper, completely FAILS in practicality.

It’s not laziness, it’s a difference in tech culture. Like spinedoc77 said, in the US you’d have to convince many friends to set up another messaging app they don’t normally use. That’s not really reasonable to ask of people, frankly.

Good luck getting even my parents to understand how to download a separate app, receive a video on there and store it. It's a major undertaking just having them understand how the default/bundled iMessage works. It's just a terrible argument all around to say there are alternative apps, Apple knows exactly what it's doing by having iMessage be the default, otherwise this entire argument would be moot. That's exactly why Apple values it so much.

I was joking, indicated by the sarcasm tag. Sorry for the confusion. I agree with you 10000%

literally the definition of lazy (unwilling to work or use energy) to download an app that would fix their problems.
quote "aren't wrong and yes this is true" from various posts prove this.

Fair enough, but I think you are overstating the problem. You don't need to get "all your contacts" to download a separate app. In the US most of them are probably on iMessage.

I also have hundreds of contacts. I text most of them using the Messages app. For cross platform group messaging, we choose a third party app. In the rare instance I need to send a full resolution video or picture to an android user, I send a link.

It’s not just one person though, it’s getting all contacts to do so as well, including people that you don’t have a strong relationship with. It’s a matter of reaching a tipping point where it becomes viable. The US isn’t likely to approach that tipping point. That is not a matter of laziness, it’s a cultural phenomena.

Sure. I don't agree with them. And I think that RCS support will only be an annoyance for me.

But asking for an upgrade to SMS/MMS in the Messages app is certainly a reasonable request.

I don't understand, I'm on Android so if I want full size pictures/videos, group chats, secure encryption in those group chats, and possibly any extra features like tapbacks/stickers, etc. then I have to have the iPhone user download a 3rd party app. I would say the majority, not all, but most fall into these categories where I want to use features SMS/MMS does not provide. No I don't want to send a link to a video, don't want to download another app to group chat, etc. THOSE are the reasons why iPhone users dislike Android conversations. It's not about green bubbles like we are in 3rd grade and I'm not cool, it's about green bubbles = headaches for iPhone users.

I don't want to extrapolate my individual circumstances onto others so can only speak for myself, but there is no way I could ever make it work outside of having iMessage. So yes on paper I could switch to a 3rd party app, but in reality it's so far from being practical it doesn't even register as a solution.

Anyway hopefully the point is moot when Apple gives us RCS, although THAT has it's own plethora of unanswered questions like which features will we get and will we get e2e encryption. But personally I'll be happy with e2e encryption (including group chats), full group chat functionality, full resolution pictures/video. Everything else Apple is entitled to keep in their walled garden as a business decision.

You just acknowledged that there are other apps that you could use to send the full resolution video. You simply choose not to.

….well they don’t use those apps in the first place so downloading them wouldn’t matter…do you understand that?

if someone choses not to use the options available they are choosing to accept the consequences of their actions.

Sorry. Our conversation was about iPhone to android, so I didn't realize that you were on android. It certainly is more complicated from that perspective. RCS support is better, but doesn't meet all your requirements. I officially withdraw my claim that you are overstating your issue! :)

I think cross service (e.g. between RCS implementations) e2e encryption is a fantasy. If you can't verify the endpoints, then it isn't e2ee. And without e2ee, integrating RCS into iMessage group chats becomes an issue.

As I've said, I'm not high on RCS as a solution.

I don’t need dog videos and group chats about dinner e2ee

Would just be nice to have 21st century messaging in apples own messaging app when messaging half the world without iPhones
