NBC has no say over who makes the team. If they did that would be a huge conflict of interest. And it would probably violate their contract with the IOC.

i heard a rumor that the u.s. kicked out an athlete from going to the olympics due to not having a compelling tear jerking story that nbc is known for. can anyone confirm this please? thanks.

I think you missed the sarcasm there MacNut

Any ho, back to the sports.

Great come last game come back from Emms and Robertson in the badminton 17-12 down in the last game against the number 2 seeds and came back to win.

Two more possible golds for Phelps in the morning.

I LOVE this business of watching the events without a bunch of commentary by the NBC announcers.

Tell me about it...its a turn off watching it on NBC and the commentator would not shut his/her mouth running on with some garbage  or their fuller pieces about the "incredible story of one man/woman return to victory"

When will track & field start up....got to watch my boys take down the giants:D

Bless

Is that the sport that disappeared from the schedule, replaced with the name "Athletics"? Whose dumb idea was that? All sports are athletic by definition. The Olympic sports that are performed on a field with a track around the outside are rightly called track and field!

Because of this outrage, I'm going to boycott 60 seconds of the Olympics!

I was so inspired by the swimming yesterday that I went to the outdoor pool last night at 6 PM and had a go. Mind you, it's winter in Australia, and it may have been 10 C/50 F at the time.

Got into the pool, froze my ass off, started swimming, swam around 10 laps, suffered major muscle cramps on both my calves (which is usual for me), and limped out of the pool.

Then I woke up this morning with a cold. :p *thumbs up*

Phelps the greatest olympic athlete ever.

I think you want the beta. Try both though.

Congrats. He looked kinda pissed. Like he has had it with this rigorous schedule. I think that swim was harder than he thought and he's not looking forward to the next. Human body can only go so far.

p.s. the announcer girl for gymnastics is so bad

There are some sports where I appreciate the commentary because it lends a little interest for me. Swimming in particular, and also events where I don't know a whole lot about the event, such as diving and gymnastics. But some, such as shooting and fencing, I don't need the damn commentary.

It appears he had water in his goggles and that is why he was pissed.
