Perhaps not, but as their growth plates are still developing, you would think that more care would be taken, in submitting such a young child to the rigours of Olympic competition.

A magazine says it has documents showing that 3 or 4 of the china gymnasts are under the required age set by the olympic committee of 16. One is suspected of being as young as 12.

In a swimming relay, what is the rule for a fair start by swimmers #2, #3, and #4? Do their feet have to remaining touching the platform until the split second that the previous swimmer touches the wall? Do they hear a tone or get any other indication? I assume that false starts occur, but aren't common.

The USA girls are in a bit of trouble on the floor exercise.

The false start is given after the race is over. They disqualify the whole team. They can't jump into the water until the last swimmer touches the wall. I imagine it is just by looking.

This is exactly what a previous poster meant about judging.

Subjective decisions suck.

Let's limit ourselves to just mano-e-mano (girls too) sports, and leave politics out of it.

Wow costas just interviewed the president and I think he went 10 minutes over the time they agreed on haha. He's a nut

What a fantastic race. Too bad I have to watch it delayed thanks to friggin' NBC.

Rebecca Adlington wins gold in 400mm Free style with Jo Jackson taking bronze.

TAKE THAT USA!!! team GB! team GB! team GB! :D :D

OK, that's not very British of me but after seeing all the France bashing I couldn't resist!

Pleased Phelps has his second gold, would be really cool to see him get all 8.

I'd still like to know WHAT they can/can't do until the previous runner touches the wall. Must they maintain contact with the ground? Can they leap, as long as they don't touch the water?

That *was* pretty awesome!

I don't personally have a problem with the French - it's just fun to serve crow when someone talks trash. :)

Some part of the swimmer must be touching the starting block when the in coming swimmer touches the wall. So doesn't matter if it's just a toe then start would be legal.

That was a great race, I jumped off the couch at the end - giving my (American) girlfriend a bit of a fright.

Before the race, the US announcers were saying that the race was basically for silver because no-one was going to stop the Italian. She ended up 5th.

The US TV also did an interesting feature before the race. Apparently, the Italian stole the French woman's boyfriend last year - so they and now she was after the French woman's olympic title too - which of course the brave Brit took instead. [Sorry for the lack of names, it's late and I couldn't be bothered to look them up]

I didn't see the men's 4x100 free until this morning and I already knew the result. It was STILL an amazing race to watch. This is why I love the olympics.

That last 50m by Lezak was amazing.
Didn't get to see it. But read about it. Sounds like an amazing effort.

That's what happens when you (the French swimmers) get cocky and say "we're gonna smash the US".:D:cool:
:)

Agreed. I nearly fell out of my chair (I kid you not) when I saw them win. Amazing. It's races like this that make the olympics so special.
Agree.

That would be an awesome accomplishment.

Timing is everything. :)
