Andrew Clark: You don't have any goals.

John Bender: Oh but I do.

Andrew Clark: Yeah?

John Bender: I wanna be just like you. I figure all I need, is a lobotomy and some tights.

Brian Johnson: You wear tights?

Andrew Clark: No I don't wear tights. I wear the required uniform.

Brian Johnson: Tights.

Andrew Clark: Shut up.

So, I was watching the olympics last night, and they were showing the men's beach volleyball semi final between the USA and Georgia, and I noticed two interesting things. Firstly, both the Georgians were actually Brazilian and secondly, their names were Geor and Gia.

Second random note: Shouldn't Team GB really be Team UK?

CONSPIRACY!!!!!

wrestling is intense but so are other sports.

i guaranty that Phelps trains just as hard as that guy, and considering his (and most swimmers) calorie intake is through the roof i have no reason to doubt the intensity at the level of which he trains. one and one, strategy? does the skill of riding the stream of another swimmer, calculating stroke counts and kicking just under the return current off a kick turn, debating between a glide-in or half stroke finish count?

First of all, all I was trying to do is explain his words. He wasn't saying them just to be offensive. He made a valid point... and I don't think you should be twisting his words they way you are. He has put in more effort than you can imagine to get where he is today. Anyway, to your point. Yes, most olympic wrestlers put in more hard work to get where they are today than Michael Phelps does. I am a big Phelps fan, but it's quite simply the truth. The two sports aren't comparable. Swimming does burn a lot of calories, perhaps even as much or more than wrestling does per minute. That is but one small piece of what makes something hard.

you think the diving teams train any less intensely? 1000 crunches just to start of their morning. they need strong abs/core to maintain pikes, flips, twists and Lord knows what else. not to mention the constant impact with water at 2-3 stories high, sure it might be fine and dandy if the dive goes as planned but i'm sure all of them have landed on their backs or stomachs. you ever flopped on a 3 story dive?

YES. I guarantee it. No olympic diver works as hard as even an average Senior level wrestler. This is not a slam on divers, they don't NEED to work as hard to get success.

or how about gymnastics? can he flip on the rings like those Chinese gymnasts? can he beat Johnson on the beams? can he fill in Kobe's shoes on the basketball team? is he able replace Jeremy Wariner on the 400m?

I never said he could. No one did. What are you talking about?

yeah i know wrestling is tough (i train BJJ) but any of those sports mentioned above takes intelligence, speed, dexterity, planning, and execution. just like wrestling, on a cursory glance, one can't really tell the finer points of the sport.

That is cool that you train BJJ. Tough martial art. A lot of great athletes in that sport. I would suggest that BJJ takes a lot more of a lot of things than the sports you listed above as well. That doesn't mean you're taking anything away from those sports, it's just how it is. I'm not trying to make any point here, other than to say I understand Cejudo's words. He is right. His sport DOES take a lot more than most other sports. He is a true soldier and olympian. He has poured himself into the sport and deserves tremendous recognition for the AMAZING amount of work it has required. It didn't come easy... in fact it came a lot harder than a lot of other people's gold medals.

pound for pound, this guy sounds like one of the bigger douchebags the U.S. has to offer this summer. at this caliber of competition he really ought to keep his mouth shut as i'm sure more than enough athletes will be happy to prove him wrong. hell, i'll even prove him wrong. just come to my rock gym and i'd like to see him go up a 5.13 or a v7.

Quite disrespectful. And not really even relevant since no one ever suggested he could be successful in ANY other sport.

Anyway... no big deal. Later.

I believe that Usain Bolt, or another one of the runners, was disciplined for holding his arms out, looking around, and then shrugging, as if to say "Huh? Where are you guys? I'm already 'cross the line!" while running. Now this wrestler does something much more disrespectful, and no one says anything (execpt rage on macrumors, of course).

Nice videos of wrestling, thanks, but why doesn't look like WWE??:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: (joke)

i respect your obvious love for your sport, but about 99% of your arguments don't make any sense.
unless you have practiced all other sports at professional level, you have no grounds to give these sort of judgments.
to be at the olympics and compete for medals, athletes must be at the top of their respective sports. for any athlete to say that their sport is better than the others or that athletes in his discipline are 'better' than the rest, is not only ridiculous and obviously incorrect, but honestly quite pathetic.

It makes sense if you think of it this way.
He's looking at it with "warrior pride".
A lot of "combat athletes" get this mixed up with the fact that it's just a sport.
And no Cejudo is not a "soldier". He's an "athlete" who perhaps thinks he is, hence the comments he made.

This has to be one of the most pointless arguments around here.

Well said.

Well teamGB have reached the stretch target (counting the boxing ones, colour yet to be sorted) of 41 medals. So all in a pretty fantastic Olympics for us.

As for the 10km swimming. WOW what a cool sport. kicking, punching, grabbing and a huge amount of swimming. Amazing after 10km they are so close. and what has to be the best way to feed and give a drink to an athlete in the middle of their event.

man, more olympic cheaters...i thought this was going to be a cheating free olympics...

It's good they are catching them. We know some are going to try and cheat but at least the IOC is going after them.

As for Lyudmila Blonska getting caught. I really like Kelly Sotherton's idea that the rightful winners should received their medal in a proper ceremony in the Olympic stadium.

Now on to today's events... Women's beach volley ball in the rain... What can I say but. Works for me :D

Then Mens 10km swim was just as exciting as the women's swim. David Davies didn't do to bad in only his 4th race but the real star is the Dutch winner who was diagnosed with leukemia 5 years ago.

Seems it's not only the athletes who are getting caught... BBC News

Do we know / when do we find out which sport we're bringing into the Olympics in London? If it's not already been decided, it should definitely be cycling or sailing ;)

They have just announced them. There will only be 3 sports in 2012. Cycling, rowing and sailing :D

Brilliant, we could even think about some more athletics stuff if we can steal any more Jamaicans :p
I really like these games though.

We met Nick Rogers and Ben Ainslie a couple of years ago, they live in my hometown :D
